First ReadingExodus 32:7-14

From the Book of Exodus

7The Lord spoke to Moses, “Go, get down;for your people,whom you brought up out of the land of Egypt,have corrupted themselves!8They have turned away quickly out of the waywhich I commanded them.They have made themselves a molded calf,and have worshiped it,and have sacrificed to it,and said, ‘These are your gods,Israel, which brought you up out of the land of Egypt.’”

9The Lord said to Moses,“I have seen these people,and behold, they are a stiff-necked people.10Now therefore leave me alone,that my wrath may burn hot against them,and that I may consume them;and I will make of you a great nation.”

11Moses begged the Lord his God,and said, “Lord, why does your wrath burn hot against your people,that you have brought out of the land of Egypt with great powerand with a mighty hand?12Why should the Egyptians talk,saying, ‘He brought them out for evil,to kill them in the mountains,and to consume them from the surface of the earth’?Turn from your fierce wrath,and turn away from this evil against your people.13Remember Abraham, Isaac,and Israel, your servants,to whom you swore by your own self,and said to them, ‘I will multiply your offspring as the stars of the sky,and all this landthat I have spoken of I will give to your offspring,and they shall inherit it forever.’”

14So the Lord turned away from the evilwhich he said he would do to his people.

Responsorial PsalmPsalm 16:1-2a and 5, 7-8, 11

1Preserve me, God, for I take refuge in you.2My soul, you have said to the Lord, “You are my Lord.Apart from you I have no good thing.”5The Lord assigned my portion and my cup.You made my lot secure.

7I will bless the Lord, who has given me counsel.Yes, my heart instructs me in the night seasons.8I have set the Lord always before me.Because he is at my right hand, I shall not be moved.

11You will show me the path of life.In your presence is fullness of joy.In your right hand there are pleasures forever more.

GospelMatthew 9:35-38

From the Gospel according to Matthew

35Jesus went about all the cities and the villages,teaching in their synagoguesand preaching the Good News of the Kingdom,and healing every diseaseand every sickness among the people.36But when he saw the multitudes,he was moved with compassion for thembecause they were harassed and scattered,like sheep without a shepherd.37Then he said to his disciples,“The harvest indeed is plentiful,but the laborers are few.38Pray thereforethat the Lord of the harvest will send out laborers into his harvest.”

Léctio Actuum Apostolórum

Acts 8:14-17

Lesson from the Acts of Apostles

Acts 8:14-17.

In those days, when the Apostles in Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent to them Peter and John. On their arrival they prayed for them, that they might receive the Holy Spirit; for as yet He had not come upon any of them, but they had only been baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. Then they laid their hands on them and they received the Holy Spirit.

Holy Spirit! Lord of light!

From Thy clear celestial height, Thy pure, beaming radiance give:

Come, Thou, Father of the poor!

Come, with treasures which endure!

Come, Thou light of all that live!

Thou of all consolers best,

Visiting the troubled breast,

Dost refreshing peace bestow:

Thou in toil art comfort sweet;

Pleasant coolness in the heat;

Solace in the midst of woe.

Light immortal! Light divine!

Visit Thou these hearts of Thine, And our inmost being fill.

If Thou take Thy grace away,

Nothing pure in man will stay;

All his good is turn’d to ill.

Heal our wounds - our strength renew;

On our dryness pour Thy dew;

Wash the stains of guilt away:

Bend the stubborn heart and will;

Melt the frozen, warm the chill;

Guide the steps that go astray.

Thou, on those who evermore

Thee confess and Thee adore,

In Thy sevenfold gifts descend.

Give them comfort when they die;

Give them life with Thee on high;

Give them joys which never end.

Amen. Alleluia.

Sequéntia ☩ sancti Evangélii secúndum Joánnem

Joannes 10:1-10

Continuation ☩ of the Holy Gospel according to John

John 10:1-10.

At that time, Jesus said to the Pharisees, Amen, amen, I say to you, he who enters not by the door into the sheepfold, but climbs up another way, is a thief and a robber. But he who enters by the door is shepherd of the sheep. To this man the gatekeeper opens, and the sheep hear his voice, and he calls his own sheep by name and leads them forth. And when he has let out his own sheep, he goes before them; and the sheep follow him because they know his voice. But a stranger they will not follow, but will flee from him, because they do not know the voice of strangers. This parable Jesus spoke to them, but they did not understand what He was saying to them. Again, therefore, Jesus said to them, Amen, amen, I say to you, I am the door of the sheep. All whoever have come are thieves and robbers; but the sheep have not heard them. I am the door. If anyone enter by Me he shall be safe, and shall go in and out, and shall find pastures. The thief comes only to steal, and slay, and destroy. I came that they may have life, and have it more abundantly.
