First Reading1 John 2:29—3:6

From the First Letter of John

29If you know that he is righteous, you know that everyonewho practices righteousness has been born of him.

1See how great a love the Father has given to us,that we should be called children of God!For this cause the world doesn’t know us,because it didn’t know him.2Beloved, now we are children of God.It is not yet revealed what we will be;but we know that when he is revealed,we will be like him,for we will see him just as he is.3Everyone who has this hope set on him purifies himself, even as he is pure.

4Everyone who sins also commits lawlessness.Sin is lawlessness.5You know that he was revealed to take away our sins, and no sin is in him.6Whoever remains in him doesn’t sin.Whoever sins hasn’t seen him and doesn’t know him.

Responsorial PsalmPsalm 98:1, 3cd-4, 5-6

1Sing to the Lord a new song, for he has done marvelous things! His right hand and his holy arm have worked salvation for him.

3He has remembered his loving kindness and his faithfulness toward the house of Israel. All the ends of the earth have seen the salvation of our God.4Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth!Burst out and sing for joy, yes, sing praises!

5Sing praises to the Lord with the harp, with the harp and the voice of melody.6With trumpets and sound of the ram’s horn, make a joyful noise before the King, the Lord.

GospelJohn 1:29-34

From the Gospel according to John

29The next day, he saw Jesus coming to him,and said, “Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!30This is he of whom I said,‘After me comes a man who is preferred before me,for he was before me.’31I didn’t know him,but for this reason I came baptizing in water, that he would be revealed to Israel.”32John testified, saying,“I have seen the Spirit descending like a dove out of heaven, and it remained on him.33I didn’t recognize him,but he who sent me to baptize in water said to me,‘On whomever you will see the Spirit descendingand remaining on him is hewho baptizes in the Holy Spirit.’34I have seen and have testifiedthat this is the Son of God.”

Léctio Epístolæ beáti Pauli Apóstoli ad Titum

Tit 3:4-7

Caríssime: Appáruit benígnitas et humánitas Salvatóris nostri Dei: non ex opéribus justítiæ, quæ fécimus nos, sed secúndum suam misericórdiam salvos nos fecit, per lavácrum regeneratiónis et renovatiónis Spíritus Sancti, quem effúdit in nos abúnde per Jesum Christum, Salvatórem nostrum: ut, justificáti grátia ipsíus, herédes simus secúndum spem vitæ ætérnæ: in Christo Jesu, Dómino nostro.

Lesson from the letter of St. Paul the Apostle to Titus

Titus 3:4-7

Dearly beloved: When the goodness and kindness of God our Saviour appeared, then not by reason of good works that we did ourselves, but according to His mercy, He saved us through the bath of regeneration and renewal by the Holy Spirit; Whom He has abundantly poured out upon us through Jesus Christ our Saviour, in order that, justified by His grace, we may be heirs in the hope of life everlasting, in Christ Jesus our Lord.

GospelEvangelium

Sequéntia ☩ sancti Evangélii secúndum Lucam

Luc 2:15-20

Continuation ☩ of the Holy Gospel according to Luke

Luke 2:15-20

At that time, the shepherds were saying to one another, Let us go over to Bethlehem and see this thing that has come to pass, which the Lord has made known to us. So they went with haste, and they found Mary and Joseph, and the Babe lying in the manger. And when they had seen, they understood what had been told them concerning this Child. And all who heard marveled at the things told them by the shepherds. But Mary kept in mind all these things, pondering them in her heart. And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all that they had heard and seen, even as it was spoken to them.

Blessed Virgin

It is truly meet and just, right and for our salvation, that we should at all times, and in all places, give thanks unto Thee, O holy Lord, Father almighty, everlasting God: and that we should praise and bless, and proclaim Thee, in the veneration of the Blessed Mary, ever-Virgin: Who also conceived Thine only-begotten Son by the overshadowing of the Holy Ghost, and the glory of her virginity still abiding, gave forth to the world the everlasting Light, Jesus Christ our Lord. Through whom the Angels praise Thy Majesty, the Dominations worship it, and the Powers stand in awe. The Heavens and the heavenly hosts together with the blessed Seraphim in triumphant chorus unite to celebrate it. Together with these we entreat Thee that Thou mayest bid our voices also to be admitted while we say with lowly praise:
