First ReadingActs 11:1-18

From the Acts of the Apostles

1Now the apostles and the brothers who were in Judea heardthat the Gentiles had also received the word of God.2When Peter had come up to Jerusalem, those who were of the circumcision contended with him,3saying, “You went in to uncircumcised men and ate with them!”

4But Peter began, and explained to them in order, saying,5“I was in the city of Joppa praying, and in a trance I saw a vision:a certain container descending, like it was a great sheet let down from heaven by four corners. It came as far as me.6When I had looked intently at it,I considered, and saw the four-footed animals of the earth, wild animals, creeping things, and birds of the sky.7I also heard a voice saying to me,‘Rise, Peter, kill and eat!’8But I said, ‘Not so,Lord, for nothing unholy or unclean has ever entered into my mouth.’9But a voice answered me the second time out of heaven,‘What God has cleansed, don’t you call unclean.’10This was done three times, and all were drawn up again into heaven.11Behold, immediately three men stood before the house where I was, having been sent from Caesarea to me.12The Spirit told me to go with them without discriminating. These six brothers also accompanied me,and we entered into the man’s house.13He told us how he had seen the angel standing in his house and saying to him,‘Send to Joppa and get Simon, who is called Peter,14who will speak to you words by which you will be saved, you and all your house.’15As I began to speak, the Holy Spirit fell on them, even as on us at the beginning.16I remembered the word of the Lord, how he said, ‘John indeed baptized in water, but you will be baptized in the Holy Spirit.’17If then God gave to them the same gift as uswhen we believed in the Lord Jesus Christ, who was I, that I could withstand God?”

18When they heard these things, they held their peace and glorified God,saying, “Then God has also granted to the Gentiles repentance to life!”

Responsorial PsalmPsalm 42:2-3; 43:3, 4

2As the deer pants for the water brooks,so my soul pants after you, God.3My soul thirsts for God, for the living God.When shall I come and appear before God?

3Oh, send out your light and your truth.Let them lead me.Let them bring me to your holy hill,to your tents.

4Then I will go to the altar of God,to God, my exceeding joy.I will praise you on the harp, God, my God.

GospelJohn 10:1-10

From the Gospel according to John

1“Most certainly, I tell you,one who doesn’t enter by the door into the sheep fold, but climbs up some other way,is a thief and a robber.2But one who enters in by the door is the shepherd of the sheep.3The gatekeeper opens the gate for him,and the sheep listen to his voice. He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out.4Whenever he brings out his own sheep, he goes before them;and the sheep follow him, for they know his voice.5They will by no means follow a stranger, but will flee from him;for they don’t know the voice of strangers.”6Jesus spoke this parable to them, but they didn’t understand what he was telling them.

7Jesus therefore said to them again,“Most certainly, I tell you,I am the sheep’s door.8All who came before me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep didn’t listen to them.9I am the door.If anyone enters in by me,he will be saved, and will go inand go out and will find pasture.10The thief only comes to steal, kill, and destroy.I came that they may have life, and may have it abundantly.

2 Cor 10:17-18; 11:1-2

Fratres: Qui gloriátur, in Dómino gloriétur.

Lesson from the second letter of St. Paul the Apostle to the Corinthians

2 Cor 10:17-18; 11:1-2

Brothers: He that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord. For not he who commendeth himself, is approved, but he, whom God commendeth. Would to God you could bear with some little of my folly: but do bear with me. For I am jealous of you with the jealousy of God. For I have espoused you to one husband that I may present you as a chaste virgin to Christ.

Sequéntia ☩ sancti Evangélii secúndum Matthǽum

Matt 25:1-13

In illo témpore: Dixit Jesus discípulis suis parábolam hanc: Símile erit regnum coelórum decem virgínibus: quæ, accipiéntes lámpades suas, exiérunt óbviam sponso et sponsæ. At ille respóndens, ait: Amen, dico vobis, néscio vos. Vigiláte ítaque, quia nescítis diem neque horam.

Continuation ☩ of the Holy Gospel according to Matthew

Matt 25:1-13.

At that time Jesus spoke this parable to His disciples: “Then will the kingdom of heaven be like ten virgins who took their lamps and went forth to meet the bridegroom and the bride. Five of them were foolish and five wise. But the five foolish, when they took their lamps, took no oil with them, while the wise did take oil in their vessels with the lamps. Then as the bridegroom was long in coming, they all became drowsy and slept. And at midnight a cry arose, 'Behold, the bridegroom is coming, go forth to meet him!' Then all those virgins arose and trimmed their lamps. And the foolish said to the wise, 'Give us some of your oil, for our lamps are going out.' The wise answered, saying, 'Lest there may not be enough for us and for you, go rather to those who sell it, and buy some for yourselves.' Now while they were gone to buy it, the bridegroom came; and those who were ready went in with him to the marriage feast, and the door was shut. Finally there came also the other virgins, who said, 'Sir, sir, open the door for us!' But he answered and said, 'Amen I say to you, I do not know you.' Watch therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour.”

Easter

It is truly meet and just, right and for our salvation, at all times to praise Thee, O Lord, but more gloriously especially in this season when Christ our Pasch was sacrificed. For He is the Lamb Who hath taken away the sins of the world: Who by dying hath destroyed our death: and by rising again hath restored us to life. And therefore with Angels and Archangels, with Thrones and Dominations, and with all the hosts of the heavenly army, we sing the hymn of Thy glory, evermore saying:
