First ReadingGalatians 4:22-24, 26-27, 31—5:1

From the Letter of Paul to the Galatians

22For it is written that Abraham had two sons, one by the servant, and one by the free woman.23However, the son by the servant was born according to the flesh, but the son by the free woman was born through promise.24These things contain an allegory, for these are two covenants. One is from Mount Sinai, bearing children to bondage, which is Hagar. verse 25 is not read26But the Jerusalem that is above is free, which is the mother of us all.27For it is written,

“Rejoice, you barren who don’t bear.Break out and shout, you who don’t travail. For the desolate women have more children than her who has a husband.” verses 28–30 are not read31So then, brothers, we are not children of a servant, but of the free woman.

1Stand firm therefore in the liberty bywhich Christ has made us free, and don’t be entangled again with a yoke of bondage.

Responsorial PsalmPsalm 113:1b-2, 3-4, 5a, 6-7

1Praise the Lord!Praise, you servants of the Lord, praise the Lord’s name.2Blessed be the Lord’s name, from this time forward and forever more.

3From the rising of the sun to its going down, the Lord’s name is to be praised.4The Lord is high above all nations, his glory above the heavens.

5Who is like the Lord, our God,who has his seat on high,

6who stoops down to see in heaven and on the earth?7He raises up the poor out of the dust, and lifts up the needy from the ash heap,

GospelLuke 11:29-32

From the Gospel according to Luke

29When the multitudes were gathering together to him,he began to say, “This is an evil generation. It seeks after a sign.No sign will be given to itbut the sign of Jonah the prophet.30For even as Jonah became a sign to the Ninevites,so the Son of Man will also be to this generation.31The Queen of the South will rise up in the judgment with the men of this generationand will condemn them, for she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon;and behold, one greater than Solomon is here.32The men of Nineveh will stand up in the judgment with this generation, and will condemn it,for they repented at the preaching of Jonah;and behold, one greater than Jonah is here.

Léctio Epístolæ beáti Pauli Apóstoli ad Corínthios

2 Cor 10:17-18; 11:1-2

Fratres: Qui gloriátur, in Dómino gloriétur.

Lesson from the second letter of St. Paul the Apostle to the Corinthians

2 Cor 10:17-18; 11:1-2

Brothers: He that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord. For not he who commendeth himself, is approved, but he, whom God commendeth. Would to God you could bear with some little of my folly: but do bear with me. For I am jealous of you with the jealousy of God. For I have espoused you to one husband that I may present you as a chaste virgin to Christ.

Sequéntia ☩ sancti Evangélii secúndum Matthǽum

Matt 25:1-13

In illo témpore: Dixit Jesus discípulis suis parábolam hanc: Símile erit regnum coelórum decem virgínibus: quæ, accipiéntes lámpades suas, exiérunt óbviam sponso et sponsæ. At ille respóndens, ait: Amen, dico vobis, néscio vos. Vigiláte ítaque, quia nescítis diem neque horam.

Continuation ☩ of the Holy Gospel according to Matthew

Matt 25:1-13.

At that time Jesus spoke this parable to His disciples: “Then will the kingdom of heaven be like ten virgins who took their lamps and went forth to meet the bridegroom and the bride. Five of them were foolish and five wise. But the five foolish, when they took their lamps, took no oil with them, while the wise did take oil in their vessels with the lamps. Then as the bridegroom was long in coming, they all became drowsy and slept. And at midnight a cry arose, 'Behold, the bridegroom is coming, go forth to meet him!' Then all those virgins arose and trimmed their lamps. And the foolish said to the wise, 'Give us some of your oil, for our lamps are going out.' The wise answered, saying, 'Lest there may not be enough for us and for you, go rather to those who sell it, and buy some for yourselves.' Now while they were gone to buy it, the bridegroom came; and those who were ready went in with him to the marriage feast, and the door was shut. Finally there came also the other virgins, who said, 'Sir, sir, open the door for us!' But he answered and said, 'Amen I say to you, I do not know you.' Watch therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour.”
