First ReadingHebrews 6:10-20

From the Letter to the Hebrews

10For God is not unrighteous,so as to forget your work and the labor of lovewhich you showed toward his name,in that you served the saints, and still do serve them.11We desire that each one of you may show the same diligence to the fullness of hope even to the end,12that you won’t be sluggish, but imitators of those who through faithand perseverance inherited the promises.

13For when God made a promise to Abraham, since he could swear by no one greater,he swore by himself,14saying, “Surely blessing I will bless you,and multiplying I will multiply you.”15Thus, having patiently endured, he obtained the promise.16For men indeed swear by a greater one,and in every dispute of theirs the oath is final for confirmation.17In this way God, being determined to show more abundantly to the heirs of the promise the immutability of his counsel, interposed with an oath,18that by two immutable things,in which it is impossible for God to lie,we may have a strong encouragement, who have fled for refuge to take hold of the hope set before us.19This hope we have as an anchor of the soul,a hope both sure and steadfast and entering intothat which is within the veil,20where as a forerunner Jesus entered for us,having become a high priest forever after the order of Melchizedek.

Responsorial PsalmPsalm 111:1-2, 4-5, 9, 10c

1Praise the Lord!I will give thanks to the Lord with my whole heart,in the council of the upright, and in the congregation.2The Lord’s works are great, pondered by all those who delight in them.

4He has caused his wonderful works to be remembered. The Lord is gracious and merciful.5He has given food to those who fear him.He always remembers his covenant.

9He has sent redemption to his people. He has ordained his covenant forever. His name is holy and awesome!

10The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. All those who do his work have a good understanding. His praise endures forever!

GospelMark 2:23-28

From the Gospel according to Mark

23He was going on the Sabbath day through the grain fields;and his disciples began,as they went, to pluck the ears of grain.24The Pharisees said to him,“Behold, why do they do thatwhich is not lawful on the Sabbath day?”

25He said to them, “Did you never read what David didwhen he had need and was hungry—he, and those who were with him?26How he entered into God’s house at the time of Abiathar the high priest, and ate the show bread, which is not lawful to eat except for the priests, and gave also to those who were with him?”

27He said to them, “The Sabbath was made for man,not man for the Sabbath.28Therefore the Son of Man is lord even of the Sabbath.”

Léctio libri Sapiéntiæ

Sap 3:1-8

Lesson from the book of Wisdom

Wis 3:1-8

The souls of the just are in the hands of God, and no torment of death shall touch them. They seemed, in the view of the foolish, to be dead; and their passing away was judged an affliction, and their going forth from us, utter destruction. But they are in peace. For if before men, indeed, they be punished, yet is their hope full of immortality; chastised a little, they shall be greatly blessed, because God tried them and found them worthy of Himself. As gold in the furnace, He proved them, and as sacrificial offerings He took them to Himself. In the time of their visitation they shall shine, and shall dart about as sparks through stubble; they shall judge nations and rule over peoples, and the Lord shall be their King forever.

Sequéntia ☩ sancti Evangélii secúndum Lucam

Luc 21:9-19

In patiéntia vestra possidébitis ánimas vestras.

Continuation ☩ of the Holy Gospel according to Luke

Luke 21:9-19

At that time, Jesus said to His disciples, When you hear of wars and insurrections, do not be terrified; these things must first come to pass, but the end will not be at once. Then He said to them, Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom; and there will be great earthquakes in various places, and pestilences and famines, and there will be terrors and great signs from heaven. But before all these things they will arrest you and persecute you, delivering you up to the synagogues and prisons, dragging you before kings and governors for My name’s sake. It shall lead to your bearing witness. Resolve therefore in your hearts not to meditate beforehand how you are to make your defense. For I Myself will give you utterance and wisdom, which all your adversaries will not be able to resist or gainsay. But you will be delivered up by your parents and brothers and relatives and friends; and some of you they will put to death. And you will be hated by all for My name’s sake; yet not a hair of your head shall perish. By your patience you will win your souls.

And do Thou command that it be permitted us to join with them in confessing Thee, while we say with lowly praise:
