First ReadingDeuteronomy 31:1-8*

From the Book of Deuteronomy

1Moses went and spoke these words to all Israel.2He said to them, “I am one hundred twenty years old today.I can no more go out and come in.The Lord has said to me,‘You shall not go over this Jordan.’3The Lord your God himself will go over before you.He will destroy these nations from before you,and you shall dispossess them.Joshua will go over before you, as the Lord has spoken.4The Lord will do to them as he did to Sihon and to Og,the kings of the Amorites, and to their land, when he destroyed them.5The Lord will deliver them up before you,and you shall do to them according to all the commandmentwhich I have commanded you.6Be strong and courageous.Don’t be afraid or scared of them, for the Lord your God himself is who goes with you.He will not fail you nor forsake you.”

7Moses called to Joshua, and said to him in the sight of all Israel,“Be strong and courageous, for you shall go with this people into the landwhich the Lord has sworn to their fathers to give them;and you shall cause them to inherit it.8The Lord himself is who goes before you.He will be with you.He will not fail you nor forsake you.Don’t be afraid.Don’t be discouraged.”

Responsorial PsalmDeuteronomy 32:3-4a, 7, 8, 9, 12*

From the Book of Deuteronomy

3For I will proclaim the Lord’s name.Ascribe greatness to our God!4The Rock: his work is perfect, for all his ways are just.A God of faithfulness who does no wrong, just and right is he.

7Remember the days of old.Consider the years of many generations.Ask your father, and he will show you;your elders, and they will tell you.

8When the Most High gave to the nations their inheritance, when he separated the children of men,he set the bounds of the peoplesaccording to the number of the children of Israel.

9For the Lord’s portion is his people.Jacob is the lot of his inheritance.

12The Lord alone led him. There was no foreign god with him.

GospelMatthew 18:1-5, 10, 12-14

From the Gospel according to Matthew

1In that hour the disciples came to Jesus, saying, “Who then is greatest in the Kingdom of Heaven?”

2Jesus called a little child to himself, and set him in the middle of them3and said, “Most certainly I tell you, unless you turn and become as little children, you will in no way enter into the Kingdom of Heaven.4Whoever therefore humbles himself as this little child is the greatest in the Kingdom of Heaven.5Whoever receives one such little child in my name receives me, verses 6–9 are not read10See that you don’t despise one of these little ones, for I tell youthat in heaven their angels always see the face of my Father who is in heaven.

12“What do you think? If a man has one hundred sheep, and one of them goes astray, doesn’t he leave the ninety-nine,go to the mountains, and seek that which has gone astray?13If he finds it, most certainly I tell you,he rejoices over it more than over the ninety-ninewhich have not gone astray.14Even so it is not the will of your Father who is in heaventhat one of these little ones should perish.

EpistleLectio

Léctio Epístolæ beáti Pauli Apóstoli ad Corínthios

2 Cor 3:4-9

Lesson from the second letter of St. Paul the Apostle to the Corinthians

2 Cor. 3:4-9

Brethren: Such is the assurance I have through Christ toward God. Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think anything, as from ourselves, but our sufficiency is from God. He also it is Who has made us fit ministers of the new covenant, not of the letter but of the spirit; for the letter kills, but the spirit gives life. Now if the ministration of death, which was engraved in letters upon stones, was inaugurated in such glory that the children of Israel could not look steadfastly upon the face of Moses on account of the transient glory that shone upon it, shall not the ministration of the spirit be still more glorious? For if there is glory in the ministration that condemned, much more does the ministration that justifies abound in glory.

Sequéntia ☩ sancti Evangélii secúndum Lucam

Luc 10:23-37

At ille dixit: Qui fecit misericórdiam in illum. Et ait illi Jesus: Vade, et tu fac simíliter.

Continuation ☩ of the Holy Gospel according to Luke

Luke 10:23-37

At that time, Jesus said to His disciples: Blessed are the eyes that see what you see! For I say to you, many prophets and kings have desired to see what you see, and they have not seen it; and to hear what you hear, and they have not heard it. And behold, a certain lawyer got up to test Him, saying, Master, what must I do to gain eternal life? But He said to him, What is written in the Law? How do you read? He answered and said, You shall love the Lord your God with your whole heart, and with your whole soul, and with your whole strength, and with your whole mind; and your neighbor as yourself. And He said to him, You have answered rightly; do this and you shall live. But he, wishing to justify himself, said to Jesus, And who is my neighbor? Jesus answered and said, A certain man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and he fell in with robbers, who after both stripping him and beating him went their way, leaving him half-dead. But, as it happened, a certain priest was going down the same way; and when he saw him, he passed by. And likewise a Levite also, when he was near the place and saw him, passed by. But a certain Samaritan as he journeyed came upon him, and seeing him, was moved with compassion. And he went up to him and bound up his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. And setting him on his own beast, he brought him to an inn and took care of him. And the next day he took out two denarii and gave them to the innkeeper and said, ‘Take care of him; and whatever more you spend, I, on my way back, will repay you.’ Which of these three, in your opinion, proved himself neighbor to him who fell among the robbers? And he said, He who took pity on him. And Jesus said to him, Go and do also in like manner.

Exod 32:11 32:13; 32:14

Moses prayed in the sight of the Lord his God and said, Why, O Lord, is Your indignation enkindled against Your people? Let the anger of Your mind cease; remember Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, to whom You swore to give a land flowing with milk and honey. And the Lord was appeased from doing the evil which He had spoken of doing against His people.
