First ReadingRomans 8:31b-39

From the Letter of Paul to the Romans

31What then shall we say about these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?32He who didn’t spare his own Son,but delivered him up for us all,how would he not also with him freely give us all things?33Who could bring a charge against God’s chosen ones?It is God who justifies.34Who is he who condemns? It is Christ who died, yes rather, who was raised from the dead, who is at the right hand of God,who also makes intercession for us.

35Who shall separate us from the love of Christ?Could oppression, or anguish,or persecution, or famine,or nakedness, or peril, or sword?36Even as it is written,

“For your sake we are killed all day long.We were accounted as sheep for the slaughter.”

37No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.38For I am persuaded that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers,39nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing will be able to separate us from God’s lovewhich is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Responsorial PsalmPsalm 109:21-22, 26-27, 30-31

21But deal with me, GOD the Lord, for your name’s sake, because your loving kindness is good, deliver me;22for I am poor and needy. My heart is wounded within me.

26Help me, Lord, my God.Save me according to your loving kindness;27that they may know that this is your hand;that you, Lord, have done it.

30I will give great thanks to the Lord with my mouth.Yes, I will praise him among the multitude.31For he will stand at the right hand of the needy,to save him from those who judge his soul.

GospelLuke 13:31-35

From the Gospel according to Luke

31On that same day, some Pharisees came, saying to him, “Get out of here and go away, for Herod wants to kill you.”

32He said to them, “Go and tell that fox,‘Behold, I cast out demonsand perform cures today and tomorrow, and the third day I complete my mission.33Nevertheless I must go on my way todayand tomorrow and the next day,for it can’t bethat a prophet would perish outside of Jerusalem.’

34“Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kills the prophetsand stones those who are sent to her!How often I wanted to gather your children together, like a hen gathers her own brood under her wings, and you refused!35Behold, your house is left to you desolate.I tell you, you will not see me until you say,‘Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!’”

Léctio Epístolæ beáti Pauli Apóstoli ad Philippénses

Phil 1:6-11

Lesson from the letter of St. Paul the Apostle to the Philippians

Phil 1:6-11

Brethren: We are confident in the Lord Jesus that He Who has begun a good work in you will bring it to perfection until the day of Christ Jesus. And I have the right to feel so about you all, because I have you in my heart, all of you, alike in my chains and in the defense and confirmation of the Gospel, as sharers in my joy. For God is my witness how I long for you all in the heart of Christ Jesus. And this I pray, that your charity may more and more abound in knowledge and all discernment, so that you may approve the better things, that you may be upright and without offense unto the day of Christ, filled with the fruit of justice, through Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God.

GospelEvangelium

Sequéntia ☩ sancti Evangélii secúndum Matthǽum

Matt 22:15-21

Cógnita autem Jesus nequítia eórum, ait: Quid me tentátis, hypócritæ? Osténdite mihi numísma census. At illi obtulérunt ei denárium. Et ait illis Jesus: Cujus est imágo hæc et superscríptio? Dicunt ei: Cǽsaris. Tunc ait illis: Réddite ergo, quæ sunt Cǽsaris, Cǽsari; et, quæ sunt Dei, Deo.

Continuation ☩ of the Holy Gospel according to Matthew

Matt 22:15-21

At that time, the Pharisees went and took counsel how they might trap Jesus in His talk. And they sent to Him their disciples with the Herodians, saying, Master, we know that You are truthful, and that You teach the way of God in truth, and that You care naught for any man; for You do not regard the person of men. Tell us, therefore, what do You think: Is it lawful to give tribute to Caesar, or not? But Jesus, knowing their wickedness, said, Why do you test Me, you hypocrites? Show Me the coin of the tribute. So they offered Him a denarius. Then Jesus said to them, Whose are this image and the inscription? They said to Him, Caesar’s. Then He said to them, Render, therefore, to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s.

It is truly meet and just, and profitable unto salvation, that we should at all times, and in all places, give thanks to Thee, O Holy Lord, Father Almighty, eternal God, through Christ, our Lord. Through whom the Angels praise Thy Majesty, the Dominions adore it, the Powers are in awe. Which the heavens and the hosts of heaven together with the blessed Seraphim joyfully do magnify. And do Thou command that it be permitted us to join with them in confessing Thee, while we say with lowly praise:
