First ReadingIsaiah 40:1-11

From the Book of Isaiah

1“Comfort, comfort my people,” says your God.2“Speak comfortably to Jerusalem, and call out to her that her warfare is accomplished, that her iniquity is pardoned, that she has received of the Lord’s hand double for all her sins.”

3The voice of one who calls out,“Prepare the way of the Lord in the wilderness!Make a level highway in the desert for our God.4Every valley shall be exalted, and every mountain and hill shall be made low.The uneven shall be made level, and the rough places a plain.5The Lord’s glory shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together;for the mouth of the Lord has spoken it.”6The voice of one saying, “Cry out!”One said, “What shall I cry?”“All flesh is like grass, and all its glory is like the flower of the field.7The grass withers, the flower fades, because the Lord’s breath blows on it.Surely the people are like grass.8The grass withers, the flower fades;but the word of our God stands forever.”9You who tell good news to Zion, go up on a high mountain. You who tell good news to Jerusalem, lift up your voice with strength!Lift it up! Don’t be afraid!Say to the cities of Judah, “Behold, your God!”10Behold, the Lord GOD will come as a mighty one,and his arm will rule for him.Behold, his reward is with him,and his recompense before him.11He will feed his flock like a shepherd. He will gather the lambs in his arm,and carry them in his bosom. He will gently lead those who have their young.

Responsorial PsalmPsalm 96:1-2, 3 and 10ac, 11-12, 13

1Sing to the Lord a new song!Sing to the Lord, all the earth.2Sing to the Lord!Bless his name!Proclaim his salvation from day to day!

3Declare his glory among the nations, his marvelous works among all the peoples.10Say among the nations, “The Lord reigns.”The world is also established. It can’t be moved. He will judge the peoples with equity.

11Let the heavens be glad, and let the earth rejoice.Let the sea roar, and its fullness!12Let the field and all that is in it exult! Then all the trees of the woods shall sing for joy

13before the Lord; for he comes, for he comes to judge the earth. He will judge the world with righteousness, the peoples with his truth.

GospelMatthew 18:12-14

From the Gospel according to Matthew

12“What do you think? If a man has one hundred sheep, and one of them goes astray, doesn’t he leave the ninety-nine,go to the mountains, and seek that which has gone astray?13If he finds it, most certainly I tell you,he rejoices over it more than over the ninety-ninewhich have not gone astray.14Even so it is not the will of your Father who is in heaventhat one of these little ones should perish.

Léctio Epístolæ beáti Pauli Apóstoli ad Hebrǽos

Hebr 13:7-17

Lesson from the letter of St. Paul the Apostle to the Hebrews

Heb 13:7-17

Brethren: Remember your superiors, who spoke to you the word of God. Consider how they ended their lives, and imitate their faith. Jesus Christ is the same, yesterday and today, yes, and forever. Do not be led away by various and strange doctrines. For it is good to make steadfast the heart by grace, not by foods, in which those who walked found no profit. We have an altar, from which they have no right to eat who serve the tabernacle. For the bodies of those animals whose blood is brought into the Holies by the high priest for sin, are burned outside the camp; and so Jesus also, that He might sanctify the people by His Blood, suffered outside the gate. Let us therefore go forth to Him outside the camp, bearing His reproach; for here we have no permanent city, but we seek for the city that is to come. Through Him, therefore, let us offer up a sacrifice of praise always to God, that is, fruit of lips praising His name. And do not forget kindness and charity, for by such sacrifices God’s favor is obtained. Obey your superiors and be subject to them, for they keep watch as having to render an account of your souls.

Sequéntia ☩ sancti Evangélii secúndum Matthǽum

Matt 25:14-23

Ait illi dóminus ejus: Euge, serve bone et fidélis, quia super pauca fuísti fidélis, super multa te constítuam: intra in gáudium dómini tui.

Continuation ☩ of the Holy Gospel according to Matthew

Matt 25:14-23

At that time, Jesus spoke this parable to His disciples: A man going abroad, called his servants and handed over his goods to them. And to one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one, to each according to his particular ability, and then he went on his journey. And he who had received the five talents went and traded with them, and gained five more. In like manner, he who had received the two gained two more. But he who had received the one went away and dug in the earth and hid his master’s money. Then after a long time the master of those servants came and settled accounts with them. And he who had received the five talents came and brought five other talents, saying, ‘Master, you handed over to me five talents; behold, I have gained five others in addition.’ His master said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant; because you have been faithful over a few things, I will set you over many; enter into the joy of your master.’ And he also who had received the two talents came, and said, ‘Master, you handed over to me two talents; behold, I have gained two more.’ His master said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant; because you have been faithful over a few things, I will set you over many; enter into the joy of your master.’

Common

It is truly meet and just, and profitable unto salvation, that we should at all times, and in all places, give thanks to Thee, O Holy Lord, Father Almighty, eternal God, through Christ, our Lord. Through whom the Angels praise Thy Majesty, the Dominions adore it, the Powers are in awe. Which the heavens and the hosts of heaven together with the blessed Seraphim joyfully do magnify. And do Thou command that it be permitted us to join with them in confessing Thee, while we say with lowly praise:

Ps 88:36-38

Once, by My holiness, have I sworn; his posterity shall continue forever; and his throne shall be like the sun before Me; like the moon, which remains forever, a faithful witness in the sky.
