First Reading1 Kings 2:1-4, 10-12

From the First Book of Kings

1Now the days of David came near that he should die;and he commanded Solomon his son, saying,2“I am going the way of all the earth. You be strong therefore, and show yourself a man;3and keep the instruction of the Lord your God,to walk in his ways,to keep his statutes, his commandments, his ordinances, and his testimonies, according to that which is written in the law of Moses, that you may prosper in all that you doand wherever you turn yourself.4Then the Lord may establish his wordwhich he spoke concerning me,saying, ‘If your children are careful of their way,to walk before me in truth with all their heartand with all their soul, there shall not fail you,’he said, ‘a man on the throne of Israel.’

verses 5–9 are not read10David slept with his fathers, and was buried in David’s city.11The days that David reigned over Israel were forty years;he reigned seven years in Hebron, and he reigned thirty-three years in Jerusalem.12Solomon sat on David his father’s throne;and his kingdom was firmly established.

Responsorial Psalm1 Chronicles 29:10, 11ab, 11d-12a, 12bcd

From the First Book of Chronicles

10Therefore David blessed the Lord before all the assembly;and David said, “You are blessed,Lord, the God of Israel our father, forever and ever.

11Yours, Lord, is the greatness, the power, the glory, the victory, and the majesty! For all that is in the heavens and on the earth is yours.

11Yours is the kingdom,Lord, and you are exalted as head above all.12Both riches and honor come from you,and you rule over all!

12In your hand is power and might! It is in your hand to make great, and to give strength to all!

GospelMark 6:7-13

From the Gospel according to Mark

7He called to himself the twelve, and began to send them out two by two;and he gave them authority over the unclean spirits.8He commanded themthat they should take nothing for their journey, except a staff only:no bread, no wallet, no money in their purse,9but to wear sandals, and not put on two tunics.10He said to them, “Wherever you enter into a house, stay there until you depart from there.11Whoever will not receive you nor hear you,as you depart from there, shake off the dustthat is under your feet for a testimony against them.Assuredly, I tell you,it will be more tolerable for Sodomand Gomorrah in the day of judgment than for that city!”

12They went out and preached that people should repent.13They cast out many demons, and anointed many with oil who were sick and healed them.

EpistleLectio

Léctio Epistolæ beáti Pauli Apóstoli ad Romános

Rom 8:35-39

Fratres: Quis nos separábit a caritáte Christi: tribulátio, an angustia, an fames, an núditas, an perículum, an persecútio, an gládius? sicut scriptum est: Quia propter te mortificámur tota die: æstimáti sumus sicut oves occisiónis.

Lesson from the letter of St. Paul the Apostle to the Romans

Rom 8:35-39

Brethren, who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation? or distress? or famine? Or nakedness? or danger? Or persecution? or the sword? As it is written: For Thy sake we are put to death all the day long: we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter. But in all these things we overcome because of Him that hath loved us. For I am sure that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor might, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

GospelEvangelium

Sequéntia ☩ sancti Evangélii secúndum Joánnem

Joann 12:24-26

Continuation ☩ of the Holy Gospel according to John

John 12:24-26

At that time, Jesus said to His Disciples, “Amen, amen, I say to you, unless the grain of wheat falls into the ground and dies, it remains alone. But if it dies, it brings forth much fruit. He who loves his life, loses it; and he who hates his life in this world, keeps it unto life everlasting. If anyone serves Me, let him follow Me; and where I am there also shall My servant be. If anyone serves Me, My Father will honor him.”

Common

It is truly meet and just, and profitable unto salvation, that we should at all times, and in all places, give thanks to Thee, O Holy Lord, Father Almighty, eternal God, through Christ, our Lord. Through whom the Angels praise Thy Majesty, the Dominions adore it, the Powers are in awe. Which the heavens and the hosts of heaven together with the blessed Seraphim joyfully do magnify. And do Thou command that it be permitted us to join with them in confessing Thee, while we say with lowly praise:

CommunionCommunio

Fruméntum Christi sum: déntibus bestiárum molar, ut panis mundus invéniar.

I am the wheat of Christ; may I be ground by the teeth of beasts, that I may be found pure bread.
