First ReadingRevelation 5:1-10

From the Book of Revelation

1I saw, in the right hand of him who sat on the throne,a book written inside and outside, sealed shut with seven seals.2I saw a mighty angel proclaiming with a loud voice,“Who is worthy to open the book, and to break its seals?”3No one in heaven above,or on the earth, or under the earth, was able to open the book or to look in it.4Then I wept much, because no one was found worthy to open the book or to look in it.5One of the elders said to me, “Don’t weep.Behold, the Lion who is of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has overcome:he who opens the book and its seven seals.”

6I saw in the middle of the throneand of the four living creatures, and in the middle of the elders,a Lamb standing, as though it had been slain, having seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits of God,sent out into all the earth.7Then he came, and he took it out of the right hand of himwho sat on the throne.8Now when he had taken the book, the four living creaturesand the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb, each one having a harp, and golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of the saints.9They sang a new song, saying,

“You are worthy to take the bookand to open its seals, for you were killed, and bought us for God with your bloodout of every tribe, language, people, and nation,10and made us kings and priests to our God;and we will reign on the earth.”

Responsorial PsalmPsalm 149:1b-2, 3-4, 5-6b, 9b

1Praise the Lord!Sing to the Lord a new song, his praise in the assembly of the saints.2Let Israel rejoice in him who made them.Let the children of Zion be joyful in their King.

3Let them praise his name in the dance!Let them sing praises to him with tambourine and harp!4For the Lord takes pleasure in his people. He crowns the humble with salvation.

5Let the saints rejoice in honor.Let them sing for joy on their beds.6May the high praises of God be in their mouths, and a two-edged sword in their hand,

9to execute on them the written judgment. All his saints have this honor.Praise the Lord!

GospelLuke 19:41-44

From the Gospel according to Luke

41When he came near, he saw the city and wept over it,42saying, “If you, even you,had known today the things which belong to your peace! But now, they are hidden from your eyes.43For the days will come on youwhen your enemies will throw up a barricade against you, surround you, hem you in on every side,44and will dash youand your children within you to the ground. They will not leave in you one stone on another, because you didn’t know the time of your visitation.”

Eccli 51:13-17

Lesson from the book of Ecclesiasticus

Sir 51:13-17.

O Lord, my God, You have exalted my dwelling place upon the earth, and I have prayed for death to pass away. I called upon the Lord, the Father of my Lord, that He would not abandon me in the day of my trouble, and in the time of the proud without help. I will ever praise Your name, and will praise it with thanksgiving; and my prayer was heard. And You saved me from destruction, and delivered me from the evil time. For this reason I thank You and I praise You, O Lord, our God.

GospelEvangelium

Sequéntia ☩ sancti Evangélii secúndum Matthǽum

Matt 25:1-13

In illo témpore: Dixit Jesus discípulis suis parábolam hanc: Símile erit regnum coelórum decem virgínibus: quæ, accipiéntes lámpades suas, exiérunt óbviam sponso et sponsæ. At ille respóndens, ait: Amen, dico vobis, néscio vos. Vigiláte ítaque, quia nescítis diem neque horam.

Continuation ☩ of the Holy Gospel according to Matthew

Matt 25:1-13.

At that time Jesus spoke this parable to His disciples: “Then will the kingdom of heaven be like ten virgins who took their lamps and went forth to meet the bridegroom and the bride. Five of them were foolish and five wise. But the five foolish, when they took their lamps, took no oil with them, while the wise did take oil in their vessels with the lamps. Then as the bridegroom was long in coming, they all became drowsy and slept. And at midnight a cry arose, 'Behold, the bridegroom is coming, go forth to meet him!' Then all those virgins arose and trimmed their lamps. And the foolish said to the wise, 'Give us some of your oil, for our lamps are going out.' The wise answered, saying, 'Lest there may not be enough for us and for you, go rather to those who sell it, and buy some for yourselves.' Now while they were gone to buy it, the bridegroom came; and those who were ready went in with him to the marriage feast, and the door was shut. Finally there came also the other virgins, who said, 'Sir, sir, open the door for us!' But he answered and said, 'Amen I say to you, I do not know you.' Watch therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour.”

It is truly meet and just, and profitable unto salvation, that we should at all times, and in all places, give thanks to Thee, O Holy Lord, Father Almighty, eternal God, through Christ, our Lord. And do Thou command that it be permitted us to join with them in confessing Thee, while we say with lowly praise:
