First ReadingActs 2:14a, 36-41

From the Acts of the Apostles

14But Peter, standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice and spoke out to them,“You men of Judea and all you who dwell at Jerusalem, let this be known to you,and listen to my words.

verses 15–35 are not read36“Let all the house of Israel therefore know certainlythat God has made him both Lord and Christ, this Jesus whom you crucified.”

37Now when they heard this, they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles,“Brothers, what shall we do?”

38Peter said to them,“Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.39For the promise is to you and to your children, and to all who are far off, even as many as the Lord our God will call to himself.”40With many other words he testified and exhorted them, saying, “Save yourselves from this crooked generation!”

41Then those who gladly received his word were baptized. There were added that day about three thousand souls.

Responsorial PsalmPsalm 23:1-3a, 3b-4, 5, 6

1The Lord is my shepherd;I shall lack nothing.2He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters.3He restores my soul.

3He guides me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.4Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,I will fear no evil, for you are with me.Your rod and your staff, they comfort me.

5You prepare a table before mein the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil.My cup runs over.

6Surely goodness and loving kindness shall follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the Lord’s house forever.

Second Reading1 Peter 2:20b-25

From the First Letter of Peter

20For what glory is it if,when you sin, you patiently endure beating? But if when you do well, you patiently endure suffering, this is commendable with God.21For you were called to this, because Christ also suffered for us,leaving you an example, that you should follow his steps,22who didn’t sin, “neither was deceit found in his mouth.”23When he was cursed, he didn’t curse back. When he suffered, he didn’t threaten, but committed himself to him who judges righteously.24He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live to righteousness. You were healed by his wounds.25For you were going astray like sheep;but now you have returned to the Shepherdand Overseer of your souls.

GospelJohn 10:1-10

From the Gospel according to John

1“Most certainly, I tell you,one who doesn’t enter by the door into the sheep fold, but climbs up some other way,is a thief and a robber.2But one who enters in by the door is the shepherd of the sheep.3The gatekeeper opens the gate for him,and the sheep listen to his voice. He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out.4Whenever he brings out his own sheep, he goes before them;and the sheep follow him, for they know his voice.5They will by no means follow a stranger, but will flee from him;for they don’t know the voice of strangers.”6Jesus spoke this parable to them, but they didn’t understand what he was telling them.

7Jesus therefore said to them again,“Most certainly, I tell you,I am the sheep’s door.8All who came before me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep didn’t listen to them.9I am the door.If anyone enters in by me,he will be saved, and will go inand go out and will find pasture.10The thief only comes to steal, kill, and destroy.I came that they may have life, and may have it abundantly.

Léctio Epístolæ beáti Petri Apóstoli

1 Pet 2:11-19

Lesson from the first letter of St. Peter the Apostle

1 Pet 2:11-19

Dearly beloved, I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims, to refrain yourselves from carnal desires which war against the soul, Having your conversation good among the Gentiles: that whereas they speak against you as evildoers, they may, by the good works, which they shall behold in you, glorify God in the day of visitation. Be ye subject therefore to every human creature for God's sake: whether it be to the king as excelling; Or to governors as sent by him for the punishment of evildoers, and for the praise of the good: For so is the will of God, that by doing well you may put to silence the ignorance of foolish men: As free, and not as making liberty a cloak for malice, but as the servants of God. Honour all men. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honour the king. Servants, be subject to your masters with all fear, not only to the good and gentle, but also to the froward. For this is thankworthy, if for conscience towards God, a man endure sorrows, suffering wrongfully.

GospelEvangelium

Sequéntia ☩ sancti Evangélii secúndum Joánnem

Joannes 16:16-22

Continuation ☩ of the Holy Gospel according to John

John 16:16-22

In that time: Jesus said to his disciples: A little while, and now you shall not see me; and again a little while, and you shall see me: because I go to the Father. Then some of the disciples said one to another: What is this that he saith to us: A little while, and you shall not see me; and again a little while, and you shall see me, and, because I go to the Father? They said therefore: What is this that he saith, A little while? we know not what he speaketh. And Jesus knew that they had a mind to ask him; and he said to them: Of this do you inquire among yourselves, because I said: A little while, and you shall not see me; and again a little while, and you shall see me? Amen, amen I say to you, that you shall lament and weep, but the world shall rejoice; and you shall be made sorrowful, but your sorrow shall be turned into joy. A woman, when she is in labour, hath sorrow, because her hour is come; but when she hath brought forth the child, she remembereth no more the anguish, for joy that a man is born into the world. So also you now indeed have sorrow; but I will see you again, and your heart shall rejoice; and your joy no man shall take from you.

Paschalis

Easter

It is truly meet and just, right and for our salvation, at all times to praise Thee, O Lord, but more gloriously especially in this season when Christ our Pasch was sacrificed. For He is the Lamb Who hath taken away the sins of the world: Who by dying hath destroyed our death: and by rising again hath restored us to life. And therefore with Angels and Archangels, with Thrones and Dominations, and with all the hosts of the heavenly army, we sing the hymn of Thy glory, evermore saying:
