First ReadingIsaiah 10:5-7, 13b-16

From the Book of Isaiah

5Alas Assyrian, the rod of my anger, the staff in whose hand is my indignation!6I will send him against a profane nation, and against the peoplewho anger me I will give him a command to take the plunderand to take the prey, and to tread them down like the mire of the streets.7However, he doesn’t mean so,neither does his heart think so;but it is in his heart to destroy, and to cut off not a few nations. verses 8–12 are not read13For he has said, “By the strength of my hand I have done it,and by my wisdom, for I have understanding.I have removed the boundaries of the peoples, and have robbed their treasures.Like a valiant man I have brought down their rulers.14My hand has found the riches of the peoples like a nest, and like one gathers eggs that are abandoned,I have gathered all the earth. There was no one who moved their wing,or that opened their mouth, or chirped.”

15Should an ax brag against him who chops with it?Should a saw exalt itself above him who saws with it?As if a rod should lift those who lift it up,or as if a staff should lift up someone who is not wood.16Therefore the Lord,GOD of Armies, will send among his fat ones leanness;and under his glory a burning will be kindled like the burning of fire.

Responsorial PsalmPsalm 94:5-6, 7-8, 9-10, 14-15

5They break your people in pieces, Lord, and afflict your heritage.6They kill the widow and the alien, and murder the fatherless.

7They say, “The Lord will not see, neither will Jacob’s God consider.”8Consider, you senseless among the people;you fools, when will you be wise?

9He who implanted the ear, won’t he hear?He who formed the eye, won’t he see?10He who disciplines the nations, won’t he punish? He who teaches man knows.

14For the Lord won’t reject his people, neither will he forsake his inheritance.15For judgment will return to righteousness. All the upright in heart shall follow it.

GospelMatthew 11:25-27

From the Gospel according to Matthew

25At that time, Jesus answered,“I thank you, Father,Lord of heaven and earth, that you hid these things from the wise and understanding, and revealed them to infants.26Yes, Father, for so it was well-pleasing in your sight.27All things have been delivered to me by my Father. No one knows the Son, except the Father;neither does anyone know the Father, except the Son and he towhom the Son desires to reveal him.

CollectOratio

Deus, qui hodiérna die beátum Henrícum Confessórem tuum e terréni cúlmine impérii ad regnum ætérnum transtulísti: te súpplices exorámus; ut, sicut illum, grátiæ tuæ ubertáte prævéntum, illécebras sǽculi superáre fecísti, ita nos fácias, ejus imitatióne, mundi hujus blandiménta vitáre, et ad te puris méntibus perveníre.

Per Dominum…

O God, Who on this day took St. Henry, Your Confessor, to the everlasting kingdom from the throne of an earthly empire; we humbly beseech You, that as You enabled him, protected by the abundance of Your grace, to overcome the temptations of the world, so grant that we, in emulation of him, may shun the allurements of this world and come to You with pure hearts.

Through our Lord…

Léctio libri Sapiéntiæ

Eccli 31:8-11

Lesson from the book of Ecclesiasticus

Sir 31:8-11

Happy the man found without fault, who turns not aside after gain, nor puts his trust in money nor in treasures! Who is he, that we may praise him? For he has done wonders in his life. He has been tested by gold and come off safe, and this remains his glory forever; he could have sinned but did not, could have done evil but would not, so that his possessions are secure in the Lord, and the assembly of the Saints shall recount his alms.

GradualGraduale

Ps 91:13; 91:14

Ps 91:3

Ps 91:13; 91:14

The just man shall flourish like the palm tree, like a cedar of Lebanon shall he grow in the house of the Lord.

Sequéntia ☩ sancti Evangélii secúndum Lucam

Luc 12:35-40

Continuation ☩ of the Holy Gospel according to Luke

Luke 12:35-40

At that time, Jesus said to His disciples, Let your loins be girt about and your lamps burning, and you yourselves like men waiting for their master’s return from the wedding; so that when he comes and knocks, they may straight-way open to him. Blessed are those servants whom the master, on his return, shall find watching. Amen I say to you, he will gird himself, and will make them recline at table, and will come and serve them. And if he comes in the second watch, and if in the third, and finds them so, blessed are those servants! But of this be assured, that if the householder had known at what hour the thief was coming, he would certainly have watched, and not have let his house be broken into. You also must be ready, because at an hour that you do not expect, the Son of Man is coming.

It is truly meet and just, and profitable unto salvation, that we should at all times, and in all places, give thanks to Thee, O Holy Lord, Father Almighty, eternal God, through Christ, our Lord. Through whom the Angels praise Thy Majesty, the Dominions adore it, the Powers are in awe. Which the heavens and the hosts of heaven together with the blessed Seraphim joyfully do magnify. And do Thou command that it be permitted us to join with them in confessing Thee, while we say with lowly praise:
