First Reading2 John 4-9

From the Second Letter of John

4I rejoice greatlythat I have found some of your children walking in truth, even as we have been commanded by the Father.5Now I beg you, dear lady, not as though I wrote to you a new commandment, but that which we had from the beginning, that we love one another.6This is love, that we should walk according to his commandments. This is the commandment, even as you heard from the beginning, that you should walk in it.

7For many deceivers have gone out into the world, those who don’t confessthat Jesus Christ came in the flesh. This is the deceiver and the Antichrist.8Watch yourselves, that we don’t lose the thingswhich we have accomplished, but that we receive a full reward.9Whoever transgressesand doesn’t remain in the teaching of Christ doesn’t have God.He who remains in the teaching has both the Father and the Son.

Responsorial PsalmPsalm 119:1 and 2, 10 and 11, 17 and 18

1Blessed are those whose ways are blameless, who walk according to the Lord’s law.2Blessed are those who keep his statutes, who seek him with their whole heart.

10With my whole heart I have sought you.Don’t let me wander from your commandments.11I have hidden your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.

17Do good to your servant.I will live and I will obey your word.18Open my eyes, that I may see wondrous things out of your law.

GospelLuke 17:26-37

From the Gospel according to Luke

26As it was in the days of Noah, even so it will also be in the days of the Son of Man.27They ate, they drank, they married, and they were given in marriage until the daythat Noah entered into the ship, and the flood came and destroyed them all.28Likewise, even as it was in the days of Lot:they ate, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they built;29but in the day that Lot went out from Sodom,it rained fire and sulfur from the skyand destroyed them all.30It will be the same way in the daythat the Son of Man is revealed.31In that day, he who will be on the housetopand his goods in the house, let him not go down to take them away.Let him who is in the field likewise not turn back.32Remember Lot’s wife!33Whoever seeks to save his life loses it,but whoever loses his life preserves it.34I tell you, inthat night there will be two people in one bed.One will be taken and the other will be left.35There will be two grinding grain together. One will be taken and the other will be left.”

37They, answering, asked him, “Where, Lord?”

He said to them, “Where the body is,there the vultures will also be gathered together.”

EpistleLectio

Léctio Epístolæ beáti Pauli Apóstoli ad Corínthios

1 Cor 4:9-14

Lesson from the first letter of St Paul the Apostle to the Corinthians

1 Cor. 4:9-14

Brethren: We have been made a spectacle to the world, and to angels, and to men. We are fools for Christ, but you are wise in Christ! We are weak, but you are strong! You are honored, but we are without honor! To this very hour we hunger and thirst, and we are naked and buffeted, and have no fixed abode. And we toil, working with our own hands. We are reviled and we bless, we are persecuted and we bear with it, we are maligned and we entreat, we have become as the refuse of this world, the offscouring of all, even until now! I write these things not to put you to shame, but to admonish you as my dearest children, in Christ Jesus our Lord.

GospelEvangelium

Sequéntia ☩ sancti Evangélii secúndum Lucam

Luc 12:32-34

In illo témpore: Dixit Jesus discípulis suis: Nolíte timére, pusíllus grex, quia complácuit Patri vestro dare vobis regnum.

Continuation ☩ of the Holy Gospel according to Luke

Luke 12:32-34

At that time, Jesus said to His disciples, Do not be afraid, little flock, for it has pleased your Father to give you the kingdom. Sell what you have and give alms. Make for yourselves purses that do not grow old, a treasure unfailing in heaven, where neither thief draws near nor moth destroys. For where your treasure is, there also will your heart be.

Common

It is truly meet and just, and profitable unto salvation, that we should at all times, and in all places, give thanks to Thee, O Holy Lord, Father Almighty, eternal God, through Christ, our Lord. Through whom the Angels praise Thy Majesty, the Dominions adore it, the Powers are in awe. Which the heavens and the hosts of heaven together with the blessed Seraphim joyfully do magnify. And do Thou command that it be permitted us to join with them in confessing Thee, while we say with lowly praise:
