First ReadingActs 15:1-2, 22-29

From the Acts of the Apostles

1Some men came down from Judea and taught the brothers,“Unless you are circumcised after the custom of Moses, you can’t be saved.”2Therefore when Paul and Barnabas had no small discordand discussion with them, they appointed Paul,Barnabas, and some others of them to go up to Jerusalem to the apostlesand elders about this question.

verses 3–21 are not read22Then it seemed good to the apostles and the elders, with the whole assembly,to choose men out of their company, and send them to Antioch with Paul and Barnabas:Judas called Barsabbas, and Silas, chief men among the brothers.23They wrote these things by their hand:

“The apostles, the elders, and the brothers, to the brotherswho are of the Gentiles in Antioch,Syria, and Cilicia: greetings.24Because we have heard that somewho went out from us have troubled you with words, unsettling your souls, saying, ‘You must be circumcised and keep the law,’to whom we gave no commandment;25it seemed good to us,having come to one accord,to choose out menand send them to you with our beloved Barnabas and Paul,26men who have risked their lives for the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.27We have sent therefore Judas and Silas, who themselves will also tell you the same things by word of mouth.28For it seemed good to the Holy Spirit, and to us, to lay no greater burden on you than these necessary things:29that you abstain from things sacrificed to idols, from blood, from things strangled, and from sexual immorality, from which if you keep yourselves,it will be well with you. Farewell.”

Responsorial PsalmPsalm 67:2-3, 5, 6 and 8*

2May God be merciful to us, bless us,and cause his face to shine on us.3That your way may be known on earth, and your salvation among all nations,

5Oh let the nations be glad and sing for joy,for you will judge the peoples with equity, and govern the nations on earth.

6Let the peoples praise you, God.Let all the peoples praise you.8God will bless us.All the ends of the earth shall fear him.

Second ReadingRevelation 21:10-14, 22-23

From the Book of Revelation

10He carried me away in the Spirit to a great and high mountain, and showed me the holy city,Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God,11having the glory of God.Her light was like a most precious stone, like a jasper stone, clear as crystal;12having a great and high wall with twelve gates, and at the gates twelve angels, and names written on them, which are the names of the twelve tribes of the children of Israel.13On the east were three gates, and on the north three gates, and on the south three gates, and on the west three gates.14The wall of the city had twelve foundations, and on them twelve names of the twelve Apostles of the Lamb.

verses 15–21 are not read22I saw no temple in it,for the Lord God the Almighty and the Lamb are its temple.23The city has no need for the sun or moon to shine, for the very glory of God illuminated itand its lamp is the Lamb.

GospelJohn 14:23-29

From the Gospel according to John

23Jesus answered him,“If a man loves me,he will keep my word.My Father will love him,and we will come to him and make our home with him.24He who doesn’t love me doesn’t keep my words. The word which you hear isn’t mine, but the Father’s who sent me.

25“I have said these things to youwhile still living with you.26But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things, and will remind you of all that I said to you.27Peace I leave with you.My peace I give to you;not as the world gives, I give to you.Don’t let your heart be troubled, neither let it be fearful.28You heard how I told you,‘I am going away, and I will come back to you.’If you loved me, you would have rejoicedbecause I said ‘I am going to my Father;’for the Father is greater than I.29Now I have told you before it happens sothat when it happens, you may believe.

EpistleLectio

Léctio Epístolæ beáti Jacóbi Apóstoli

Jas 1:22-27

Lesson from the letter of St James the Apostle

Jas 1:22-27

Dearly beloved: But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves. For if a man be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he shall be compared to a man beholding his own countenance in a glass. For he beheld himself, and went his way, and presently forgot what manner of man he was. But he that hath looked into the perfect law of liberty, and hath continued therein, not becoming a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work; this man shall be blessed in his deed. And if any man think himself to be religious, not bridling his tongue, but deceiving his own heart, this man's religion is vain. Religion clean and undefiled before God and the Father, is this: to visit the fatherless and widows in their tribulation: and to keep one's self unspotted from this world.

GospelEvangelium

Sequéntia ☩ sancti Evangélii secúndum Joánnem

Joann 16:23-30

Hæc in provérbiis locútus sum vobis.

Continuation ☩ of the Holy Gospel according to John

John 16:23-30

In that time, Jesus said to His disciples: Amen, amen I say to you: if you ask the Father any thing in my name, he will give it you. Hitherto you have not asked any thing in my name. Ask, and you shall receive; that your joy may be full. These things I have spoken to you in proverbs. The hour cometh, when I will no more speak to you in proverbs, but will shew you plainly of the Father. In that day you shall ask in my name; and I say not to you, that I will ask the Father for you: For the Father himself loveth you, because you have loved me, and have believed that I came out from God. I came forth from the Father, and am come into the world: again I leave the world, and I go to the Father. His disciples say to him: Behold, now thou speakest plainly, and speakest no proverb. Now we know that thou knowest all things, and thou needest not that any man should ask thee. By this we believe that thou camest forth from God.

Easter

It is truly meet and just, right and for our salvation, at all times to praise Thee, O Lord, but more gloriously especially in this season when Christ our Pasch was sacrificed. For He is the Lamb Who hath taken away the sins of the world: Who by dying hath destroyed our death: and by rising again hath restored us to life. And therefore with Angels and Archangels, with Thrones and Dominations, and with all the hosts of the heavenly army, we sing the hymn of Thy glory, evermore saying:
