First ReadingEzekiel 2:2-5

From the Book of Ezekiel

2The Spirit entered into me when he spoke to me,and set me on my feet;and I heard him who spoke to me.

3He said to me, “Son of man,I send you to the children of Israel,to a nation of rebels who have rebelled against me.They and their fathers have transgressed against me even to this very day.4The children are impudent and stiff-hearted.I am sending you to them, and you shall tell them,‘This is what the Lord GOD says.’5They, whether they will hear, or whether they will refuse—for they are a rebellious house—yet they will knowthat there has been a prophet among them.

Responsorial PsalmPsalm 123:1-2, 2, 3-4

1I lift up my eyes to you,you who sit in the heavens.2Behold, as the eyes of servants look to the hand of their master,as the eyes of a maid to the hand of her mistress,

2so our eyes look to the Lord, our God,until he has mercy on us.

3Have mercy on us, Lord, have mercy on us,for we have endured much contempt.4Our soul is exceedingly filled with the scoffing of those who are at ease, with the contempt of the proud.

Second Reading2 Corinthians 12:7-10

From the Second Letter of Paul to the Corinthians

7By reason of the exceeding greatness of the revelations, that I should not be exalted excessively,a thorn in the flesh was given to me:a messenger of Satan to torment me,that I should not be exalted excessively.8Concerning this thing,I begged the Lord three timesthat it might depart from me.9He has said to me,“My grace is sufficient for you,for my power is made perfect in weakness.”Most gladly therefore I will rather glory in my weaknesses, that the power of Christ may rest on me.

10Therefore I take pleasure in weaknesses,in injuries, in necessities,in persecutions, and in distresses, for Christ’s sake. For when I am weak, then am I strong.

GospelMark 6:1-6

From the Gospel according to Mark

1He went out from there. He came into his own country, and his disciples followed him.2When the Sabbath had come,he began to teach in the synagogue, and many hearing him were astonished, saying, “Where did this man get these things?”and, “What is the wisdom that is given to this man, that such mighty works come about by his hands?3Isn’t this the carpenter, the son of Mary and brother of James,Joses, Judah, and Simon?Aren’t his sisters here with us?”So they were offended at him.

4Jesus said to them,“A prophet is not without honor, except in his own country, and among his own relatives, and in his own house.”5He could do no mighty work there, except that he laid his hands on a few sick people and healed them.6He marveled because of their unbelief.

He went around the villages teaching.

Léctio Epístolæ beáti Pauli Apóstoli ad Romános

Rom 8:18-23

Lesson from the letter of St. Paul the Apostle to the Romans

Rom 8:18-23

Brethren: I reckon that the sufferings of the present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory to come that will be revealed in us. For the eager longing of creation awaits the revelation of the sons of God. For creation was made subject to vanity - not by its own will but by reason of Him Who made it subject - in hope, because creation itself also will be delivered from its slavery to corruption into the freedom of the glory of the sons of God. For we know that all creation groans and travails in pain until now. And not only it, but we ourselves also who have the first-fruits of the Spirit - we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption as sons of God, the redemption of our body, in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Ps 78:9; 78:10

Ps 9:5; 9:10

Deus, qui sedes super thronum, et júdicas æquitátem: esto refúgium páuperum in tribulatióne. Allelúja.

Ps. 78:9-10

Pardon our sins, O Lord; why should the nations say, Where is their God?

℣.Help us, O God our Saviour; because of the glory of Your name, O Lord, deliver us. Alleluia, alleluia.

Ps. 9:5; 9:10

O God, seated on Your throne, judging justly: be a stronghold for the oppressed in times of distress. Alleluia.

GospelEvangelium

Sequéntia ☩ sancti Evangélii secúndum Lucam

Luc 5:1-11

Ascéndens autem in unam navim, quæ erat Simónis, rogávit eum a terra redúcere pusíllum.

Continuation ☩ of the Holy Gospel according to Luke

Luke 5:1-11

At that time, while the crowds were pressing upon Jesus to hear the word of God, He was standing by Lake Genesareth. And He saw two boats moored by the lake, but the fishermen had left them and were washing their nets. And getting into one of the boats, the one that was Simon’s, He asked him to put out a little from the land. And sitting down, He began to teach the crowds from the boat. But when He had ceased speaking, He said to Simon, Put out into the deep, and lower your nets for a catch. And Simon answered and said to Him, Master, the whole night through we have toiled and have taken nothing; but at Your word I will lower the net. And when they had done so, they enclosed a great number of fishes, but their net was breaking. And they beckoned to their comrades in the other boat to come and help them. And they came and filled both the boats, so that they began to sink. But when Simon Peter saw this, he fell down at Jesus’ knees, saying, Depart from me, for I am a sinful man, O Lord. For he and all who were with him were amazed at the catch of fish they had made; and so were also James and John, the sons of Zebedee, who were partners with Simon. And Jesus said to Simon, Do not be afraid; henceforth you shall catch men. And when they had brought their boats to land, they left all and followed Him.

PrefacePrefatio

Holy Trinity

It is truly meet and just, right and for our salvation, that we should at all times, and in all places, give thanks unto Thee, O holy Lord, Father almighty, everlasting God; Who, together with Thine only-begotten Son, and the Holy Ghost, art one God, one Lord: not in the oneness of a single Person, but in the Trinity of one substance. For what we believe by Thy revelation of Thy glory, the same do we believe of Thy Son, the same of the Holy Ghost, without difference or separation. So that in confessing the true and everlasting Godhead, distinction in persons, unity in essence, and equality in majesty may be adored. Which the Angels and Archangels, the Cherubim also and Seraphim do praise: who cease not daily to cry out, with one voice saying:
