First ReadingMicah 6:1-4, 6-8

From the Book of Micah

1Listen now to what the Lord says:

“Arise, plead your case before the mountains, and let the hills hear what you have to say.2Hear, you mountains, the Lord’s indictment, and you enduring foundations of the earth;for the Lord has a case against his people, and he will contend with Israel.3My people, what have I done to you?How have I burdened you?Answer me!4For I brought you up out of the land of Egypt, and redeemed you out of the house of bondage.I sent before you Moses, Aaron, and Miriam. verse 5 is not read6How shall I come before the Lord, and bow myself before the exalted God?Shall I come before him with burnt offerings, with calves a year old?7Will the Lord be pleased with thousands of rams? With tens of thousands of rivers of oil?Shall I give my firstborn for my disobedience? The fruit of my body for the sin of my soul?8He has shown you, O man, what is good. What does the Lord require of you, but to act justly,to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God?

Responsorial PsalmPsalm 50:5-6, 8-9, 16bc-17, 21, 23

5“Gather my saints together to me,those who have made a covenant with me by sacrifice.”6The heavens shall declare his righteousness, for God himself is judge.

8I don’t rebuke you for your sacrifices.Your burnt offerings are continually before me.9I have no need for a bull from your stall, nor male goats from your pens.

16But to the wicked God says,“What right do you have to declare my statutes, that you have taken my covenant on your lips,17since you hate instruction, and throw my words behind you?

21You have done these things, and I kept silent. You thought that I was just like you.I will rebuke you, and accuse you in front of your eyes.

23Whoever offers the sacrifice of thanksgiving glorifies me,and prepares his way so that I will show God’s salvation to him.”

GospelMatthew 12:38-42

From the Gospel according to Matthew

38Then certain of the scribes and Pharisees answered,“Teacher, we want to see a sign from you.”

39But he answered them,“An evil and adulterous generation seeks after a sign, but no sign will be given to itbut the sign of Jonah the prophet.40For as Jonah was three daysand three nights in the belly of the huge fish,so will the Son of Man be three daysand three nights in the heart of the earth.41The men of Nineveh will stand up in the judgment with this generationand will condemn it,for they repented at the preaching of Jonah;and behold, someone greater than Jonah is here.42The Queen of the South will rise up in the judgment with this generationand will condemn it,for she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon;and behold, someone greater than Solomon is here.

EpistleLectio

Léctio Epístolæ beáti Pauli Apóstoli ad Romános

Rom 8:12-17

Lesson from the letter of St. Paul the Apostle to the Romans

Rom 8:12-17

Brethren: We are debtors, not to the flesh, that we should live according to the flesh, for if you live according to the flesh you will die; but if by the spirit you put to death the deeds of the flesh, you will live. For whoever are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. Now you have not received a spirit of bondage so as to be again in fear, but you have received a spirit of adoption as sons, by virtue of which we cry, Abba! Father! The Spirit Himself gives testimony to our spirit that we are sons of God. But if we are sons, we are heirs also: heirs indeed of God and joint heirs with Christ.

Sequéntia ☩ sancti Evangélii secúndum Lucam

Luc 16:1-9

Ait autem víllicus intra se: Quid fáciam, quia dóminus meus aufert a me villicatiónem? fódere non váleo, mendicáre erubésco. Scio, quid fáciam, ut, cum amótus fúero a villicatióne, recípiant me in domos suas. Convocátis itaque síngulis debitóribus dómini sui, dicébat primo: Quantum debes dómino meo? At ille dixit: Centum cados ólei.

Continuation ☩ of the Holy Gospel according to Luke

Luke 16:1-9

At that time, Jesus spoke to His disciples this parable: There was a certain rich man who had a steward, who was reported to him as squandering his possessions. And he called him and said to him, ‘What is this that I hear of you? Make an accounting of your stewardship, for you can be steward no longer.’ And the steward said within himself, ‘What shall I do, seeing that my master is taking away the stewardship from me? To dig I am not able; to beg I am ashamed. I know what I shall do, that when I am removed from my stewardship they may receive me into their houses.’ And he summoned each of his master’s debtors and said to the first, ‘How much do you owe my master?’ And he said, ‘A hundred jars of oil.’ He said to him, ‘Take your bond and sit down at once and write fifty.’ Then he said to another, ‘How much do you owe?’ He said, ‘A hundred kors of wheat.’ He said to him, ‘Take your bond and write eighty.’ And the master commended the unjust steward, in that he had acted prudently; for the children of this world, in relation to their own generation, are more prudent than the children of the light. And I say to you, make friends for yourselves with the mammon of wickedness, so that when you fail they may receive you into the everlasting dwellings.

And do Thou command that it be permitted us to join with them in confessing Thee, while we say with lowly praise:
