some verses are not read1The Lord said to Noah,“Come with all of your household into the ship,for I have seen your righteousness before me in this generation.2You shall take seven pairs of every clean animal with you,the male and his female.Of the animals that are not clean,take two, the male and his female.3Also of the birds of the sky,seven and seven, male and female,to keep seed alive on the surface of all the earth.4In seven days, I will cause it to rain on the earth for forty days and forty nights.I will destroy every living thingthat I have made from the surface of the ground.”

5Noah did everything that the Lord commanded him. verses 6–9 are not read10After the seven days, the floodwaters came on the earth.

GospelMark 8:14-21

From the Gospel according to Mark

14They forgot to take bread;and they didn’t have more than one loaf in the boat with them.15He warned them, saying, “Take heed:beware of the yeast of the Phariseesand the yeast of Herod.”

16They reasoned with one another,saying, “It’s because we have no bread.”

17Jesus, perceiving it,said to them, “Why do you reasonthat it’s because you have no bread?Don’t you perceive yet or understand?Is your heart still hardened?18Having eyes, don’t you see?Having ears, don’t you hear?Don’t you remember?19When I broke the five loaves among the five thousand,how many baskets full of broken pieces did you take up?”

They told him, “Twelve.”

20“When the seven loaves fed the four thousand,how many baskets full of broken pieces did you take up?”

They told him, “Seven.”

21He asked them, “Don’t you understand yet?”

Léctio Actuum Apostolórum

Acts 8:14-17

Lesson from the Acts of Apostles

Acts 8:14-17.

In those days, when the Apostles in Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent to them Peter and John. On their arrival they prayed for them, that they might receive the Holy Spirit; for as yet He had not come upon any of them, but they had only been baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. Then they laid their hands on them and they received the Holy Spirit.

Holy Spirit! Lord of light!

From Thy clear celestial height, Thy pure, beaming radiance give:

Come, Thou, Father of the poor!

Come, with treasures which endure!

Come, Thou light of all that live!

Thou of all consolers best,

Visiting the troubled breast,

Dost refreshing peace bestow:

Thou in toil art comfort sweet;

Pleasant coolness in the heat;

Solace in the midst of woe.

Light immortal! Light divine!

Visit Thou these hearts of Thine, And our inmost being fill.

If Thou take Thy grace away,

Nothing pure in man will stay;

All his good is turn’d to ill.

Heal our wounds - our strength renew;

On our dryness pour Thy dew;

Wash the stains of guilt away:

Bend the stubborn heart and will;

Melt the frozen, warm the chill;

Guide the steps that go astray.

Thou, on those who evermore

Thee confess and Thee adore,

In Thy sevenfold gifts descend.

Give them comfort when they die;

Give them life with Thee on high;

Give them joys which never end.

Amen. Alleluia.

Sequéntia ☩ sancti Evangélii secúndum Joánnem

Joannes 10:1-10

Continuation ☩ of the Holy Gospel according to John

John 10:1-10.

At that time, Jesus said to the Pharisees, Amen, amen, I say to you, he who enters not by the door into the sheepfold, but climbs up another way, is a thief and a robber. But he who enters by the door is shepherd of the sheep. To this man the gatekeeper opens, and the sheep hear his voice, and he calls his own sheep by name and leads them forth. And when he has let out his own sheep, he goes before them; and the sheep follow him because they know his voice. But a stranger they will not follow, but will flee from him, because they do not know the voice of strangers. This parable Jesus spoke to them, but they did not understand what He was saying to them. Again, therefore, Jesus said to them, Amen, amen, I say to you, I am the door of the sheep. All whoever have come are thieves and robbers; but the sheep have not heard them. I am the door. If anyone enter by Me he shall be safe, and shall go in and out, and shall find pastures. The thief comes only to steal, and slay, and destroy. I came that they may have life, and have it more abundantly.
