First ReadingNumbers 11:25-29

From the Book of Numbers

25The Lord came down in the cloud, and spoke to him, and took of the Spirit that was on him,and put it on the seventy elders. When the Spirit rested on them, they prophesied, but they did so no more.26But two men remained in the camp. The name of one was Eldad, and the name of the other Medad;and the Spirit rested on them. They were of those who were written, but had not gone out to the Tent;and they prophesied in the camp.27A young man ran, and told Moses, and said, “Eldad and Medad are prophesying in the camp!”

28Joshua the son of Nun,the servant of Moses, one of his chosen men, answered, “My lord Moses, forbid them!”

29Moses said to him, “Are you jealous for my sake?I wish that all the Lord’s people were prophets, that the Lord would put his Spirit on them!”

Responsorial PsalmPsalm 19:8, 10, 12-13, 14

8The Lord’s law is perfect, restoring the soul. The Lord’s covenant is sure, making wise the simple.

10The fear of the Lord is clean, enduring forever. The Lord’s ordinances are true, and righteous altogether.

12Moreover your servant is warned by them.In keeping them there is great reward.13Who can discern his errors?Forgive me from hidden errors.

14Keep back your servant also from presumptuous sins.Let them not have dominion over me.Then I will be upright.I will be blameless and innocent of great transgression.

Second ReadingJames 5:1-6

From the Letter of James

1Come now, you rich, weep and howl for your miseries that are coming on you.2Your riches are corruptedand your garments are moth-eaten.3Your gold and your silver are corroded, and their corrosion will be for a testimony against youand will eat your flesh like fire. You have laid up your treasure in the last days.4Behold, the wages of the laborers who mowed your fields, which you have kept back by fraud, cry out;and the cries of thosewho reaped have entered into the ears of the Lord of Armies.5You have lived in luxury on the earth, and taken your pleasure. You have nourished your hearts as in a day of slaughter.6You have condemnedand you have murdered the righteous one.He doesn’t resist you.

GospelMark 9:38-43, 45, 47-48

From the Gospel according to Mark

38John said to him, “Teacher,we saw someonewho doesn’t follow us casting out demons in your name;and we forbade him, because he doesn’t follow us.”

39But Jesus said, “Don’t forbid him,for there is no one who will do a mighty work in my nameand be able quickly to speak evil of me.40For whoever is not against us is on our side.41For whoever will give you a cup of water to drink in my namebecause you are Christ’s,most certainly I tell you,he will in no way lose his reward.

42“Whoever will cause one of these little oneswho believe in me to stumble,it would be better for him if he were thrown into the sea with a millstone hung around his neck.43If your hand causes you to stumble, cut it off.It is better for you to enter into life maimed, rather than having your two hands to go into Gehenna, into the unquenchable fire,45If your foot causes you to stumble, cut it off.It is better for you to enter into life lame, rather than having your two feet to be cast into Gehenna, into the fire that will never be quenched—47If your eye causes you to stumble, throw it out.It is better for you to enter into God’s Kingdom with one eye, rather than having two eyes to be cast into the Gehenna of fire,48‘where their worm doesn’t die,and the fire is not quenched.’

GospelEvangelium

Sequéntia ☩ sancti Evangélii secúndum Matthǽum

Matt 22:34-46

In his duóbus mandátis univérsa lex pendet et prophétæ. Congregátis autem pharisǽis, interrogávit eos Jesus, dicens: Quid vobis vidétur de Christo? cujus fílius est? Dicunt ei: David. Ait illis: Quómodo ergo David in spíritu vocat eum Dóminum, dicens: Dixit Dóminus Dómino meo, sede a dextris meis, donec ponam inimícos tuos scabéllum pedum tuórum? Si ergo David vocat eum Dóminum, quómodo fílius ejus est? Et nemo poterat ei respóndere verbum: neque ausus fuit quisquam ex illa die eum ámplius interrogáre.

Continuation ☩ of the Holy Gospel according to Matthew

Matt 22:34-46

At that time, the Pharisees came to Jesus and one of them, a doctor of the Law, putting Him to the test, asked Him, Master, which is the great commandment in the Law? Jesus said to him, ‘You shall love the Lord your God with your whole heart, and with your whole soul, and with your whole mind.’ This is the greatest and first commandment. And the second is like it, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ On these two commandments depend the whole Law and the Prophets. Now while the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus questioned them, saying, What do you think of the Christ? Whose son is He? They said to Him, David’s. He said to them, How then does David in the spirit call Him Lord, saying, The Lord said to my Lord: Sit at My right hand, till I make Your enemies Your footstool?’ If David, therefore, calls Him ‘Lord,’ how is He his son? And no one could answer Him a word; neither did anyone dare from that day forth to ask Him any more questions.

Dan 9:17; 9:18; 9:19

Orávi Deum meum ego Dániel, dicens: Exáudi, Dómine, preces servi tui: illúmina fáciem tuam super sanctuárium tuum: et propítius inténde pópulum istum, super quem invocátum est nomen tuum, Deus.

Dan 9:17-19

I, Daniel, prayed to my God, saying, Hear, O Lord, the prayers of Your servant; show Your face upon Your sanctuary, and favorably look down upon this people, upon whom Your name is invoked, O God.

PrefacePrefatio

Holy Trinity

It is truly meet and just, right and for our salvation, that we should at all times, and in all places, give thanks unto Thee, O holy Lord, Father almighty, everlasting God; Who, together with Thine only-begotten Son, and the Holy Ghost, art one God, one Lord: not in the oneness of a single Person, but in the Trinity of one substance. For what we believe by Thy revelation of Thy glory, the same do we believe of Thy Son, the same of the Holy Ghost, without difference or separation. So that in confessing the true and everlasting Godhead, distinction in persons, unity in essence, and equality in majesty may be adored. Which the Angels and Archangels, the Cherubim also and Seraphim do praise: who cease not daily to cry out, with one voice saying:

Make vows to the Lord, your God, and fulfill them; let all round about Him bring gifts to the terrible Lord Who checks the pride of princes, Who is terrible to the kings of the earth.
