First ReadingEzekiel 36:23-28

From the Book of Ezekiel

23I will sanctify my great name, which has been profaned among the nations, which you have profaned among them. Then the nations will know that I am the Lord,”says the Lord GOD,“when I am proven holy in you before their eyes.

24“‘“For I will take you from among the nationsand gather you out of all the countries, and will bring you into your own land.25I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you will be clean.I will cleanse you from all your filthinessand from all your idols.26I will also give you a new heart, and I will put a new spirit within you.I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you a heart of flesh.27I will put my Spirit within you,and cause you to walk in my statutes. You will keep my ordinances and do them.28You will dwell in the land that I gave to your fathers. You will be my people, and I will be your God.

Responsorial PsalmPsalm 51:12-13, 14-15, 18-19

12Create in me a clean heart, O God.Renew a right spirit within me.13Don’t throw me from your presence, and don’t take your Holy Spirit from me.

14Restore to me the joy of your salvation.Uphold me with a willing spirit.15Then I will teach transgressors your ways.Sinners will be converted to you.

18For you don’t delight in sacrifice, or else I would give it.You have no pleasure in burnt offering.19The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit.O God, you will not despise a broken and contrite heart.

GospelMatthew 22:1-14

From the Gospel according to Matthew

1Jesus answeredand spoke to them again in parables, saying,2“The Kingdom of Heaven is like a certain king, who made a wedding feast for his son,3and sent out his servants to call thosewho were invited to the wedding feast, but they would not come.4Again he sent out other servants, saying, ‘Tell those who are invited,“Behold, I have prepared my dinner. My cattle and my fatlings are killed, and all things are ready.Come to the wedding feast!”’5But they made light of it,and went their ways, one to his own farm, another to his merchandise;6and the rest grabbed his servants, treated them shamefully, and killed them.7When the king heard that,he was angry, and sent his armies, destroyed those murderers, and burned their city.

8“Then he said to his servants,‘The wedding is ready, but those who were invited weren’t worthy.9Go therefore to the intersections of the highways, and as many as you may find, invite to the wedding feast.’10Those servants went out into the highwaysand gathered together as many as they found, both bad and good. The wedding was filled with guests.

11“But when the king came in to see the guests,he saw there a man who didn’t have on wedding clothing,12and he said to him,‘Friend, how did you come in here not wearing wedding clothing?’He was speechless.13Then the king said to the servants,‘Bind him hand and foot, take him away, and throw him into the outer darkness. That is where the weeping and grinding of teeth will be.’14For many are called, but few chosen.”

Léctio Epístolæ beáti Pauli Apóstoli ad Corínthios

1 Cor 4:9-14

Lesson from the first letter of St Paul the Apostle to the Corinthians

1 Cor. 4:9-14

Brethren: We have been made a spectacle to the world, and to angels, and to men. We are fools for Christ, but you are wise in Christ! We are weak, but you are strong! You are honored, but we are without honor! To this very hour we hunger and thirst, and we are naked and buffeted, and have no fixed abode. And we toil, working with our own hands. We are reviled and we bless, we are persecuted and we bear with it, we are maligned and we entreat, we have become as the refuse of this world, the offscouring of all, even until now! I write these things not to put you to shame, but to admonish you as my dearest children, in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Sequéntia ☩ sancti Evangélii secúndum Lucam

Luc 12:32-34

In illo témpore: Dixit Jesus discípulis suis: Nolíte timére, pusíllus grex, quia complácuit Patri vestro dare vobis regnum.

Continuation ☩ of the Holy Gospel according to Luke

Luke 12:32-34

At that time, Jesus said to His disciples, Do not be afraid, little flock, for it has pleased your Father to give you the kingdom. Sell what you have and give alms. Make for yourselves purses that do not grow old, a treasure unfailing in heaven, where neither thief draws near nor moth destroys. For where your treasure is, there also will your heart be.

It is truly meet and just, and profitable unto salvation, that we should at all times, and in all places, give thanks to Thee, O Holy Lord, Father Almighty, eternal God, through Christ, our Lord. Through whom the Angels praise Thy Majesty, the Dominions adore it, the Powers are in awe. Which the heavens and the hosts of heaven together with the blessed Seraphim joyfully do magnify. And do Thou command that it be permitted us to join with them in confessing Thee, while we say with lowly praise:
