First ReadingProverbs 21:1-6, 10-13

From the Book of Proverbs

1The king’s heart is in the Lord’s hand like the watercourses. He turns it wherever he desires.2Every way of a man is right in his own eyes, but the Lord weighs the hearts.3To do righteousness and justiceis more acceptable to the Lord than sacrifice.4A high look and a proud heart, the lamp of the wicked, is sin.5The plans of the diligent surely lead to profit;and everyone who is hasty surely rushes to poverty.6Getting treasures by a lying tongueis a fleeting vapor for those who seek death. verses 7–9 are not read10The soul of the wicked desires evil;his neighbor finds no mercy in his eyes.11When the mocker is punished, the simple gains wisdom. When the wise is instructed, he receives knowledge.12The Righteous One considers the house of the wicked, and brings the wicked to ruin.13Whoever stops his ears at the cry of the poor,he will also cry out, but shall not be heard.

Responsorial PsalmPsalm 119:1, 27, 30, 34, 35, 44

1Blessed are those whose ways are blameless, who walk according to the Lord’s law.

27Let me understand the teaching of your precepts! Then I will meditate on your wondrous works.

30I have chosen the way of truth.I have set your ordinances before me.

34Give me understanding, and I will keep your law.Yes, I will obey it with my whole heart.

35Direct me in the path of your commandments, for I delight in them.

44So I will obey your law continually, forever and ever.

GospelLuke 8:19-21

From the Gospel according to Luke

19His mother and brothers came to him,and they could not come near him for the crowd.20Some people told him,“Your mother and your brothers stand outside, desiring to see you.”

21But he answered them,“My mother and my brothers are thesewho hear the word of God and do it.”

Sequéntia ☩ sancti Evangélii secúndum Matthǽum

Matt 9:1-8

In illo témpore: Ascéndens Jesus in navículam, transfretávit et venit in civitátem suam. Et ecce, offerébant ei paralýticum jacéntem in lecto.

Continuation ☩ of the Holy Gospel according to Matthew

Matt 9:1-8

At that time, Jesus, getting into a boat, crossed over and came to his own town. And behold, they brought to Him a paralytic lying on a pallet. And Jesus, seeing their faith, said to the paralytic, Take courage, son; your sins are forgiven you. And behold, some of the scribes said within themselves, This man blasphemes. And Jesus, knowing their thoughts, said, Why do you harbor evil thoughts in your hearts? For which is easier, to say, ‘Your sins are forgiven you,’ or to say, ‘Arise, and walk’? But that you may know that the Son of Man has power on earth to forgive sins, - then He said to the paralytic - Arise, take up your pallet and go to your house. And he arose, and went away to his house. But when the crowds saw it, they were struck with fear, and glorified God Who had given such power to men.

It is truly meet and just, and profitable unto salvation, that we should at all times, and in all places, give thanks to Thee, O Holy Lord, Father Almighty, eternal God, through Christ, our Lord. Through whom the Angels praise Thy Majesty, the Dominions adore it, the Powers are in awe. Which the heavens and the hosts of heaven together with the blessed Seraphim joyfully do magnify. And do Thou command that it be permitted us to join with them in confessing Thee, while we say with lowly praise:
