First ReadingTobit 1:1a, 2-3a; 2:1c-8*

From the Book of Tobit

1The book of the words of Tobit, the son of Tobiel, the son of Ananiel, the son of Aduel, the son of Gabael,of the seed of Asiel,of the tribe of Naphtali;2who in the days of Enemessar king of the Assyrians was carried away captive out of Thisbe, which is on the right hand of Kedesh Naphtali in Galilee above Asher.

3I, Tobit walked in the ways of truthand righteousness all the days of my life, and I did many alms deeds to my kindred and my nation, who went with me into the land of the Assyrians, to Nineveh.

some verses are not read1Now when I had come home again, and my wife Anna was restored to me,and my son Tobias,in the feast of Pentecost, which is the holy feast of the seven weeks, there was a good dinner prepared for me,and I sat down to eat.2I saw abundance of meat, and I said to my son,“Go and bring whatever poor man you find of our kindred, who is mindful of the Lord.Behold, I wait for you.”

3Then he came, and said,“Father, one of our race is strangled, and has been cast out in the marketplace.”4Before I had tasted anything,I sprang up,and took him up into a chamber until the sun had set.5Then I returned, washed myself, ate my bread in heaviness,6and remembered the prophecy of Amos, as he said,

“Your feasts will be turned into mourning, and all your mirth into lamentation.

7So I wept: and when the sun had set,I went and dug a grave, and buried him.8My neighbors mocked me,and said, “He is no longer afraid to be put to death for this matter;and yet he fled away.Behold, he buries the dead again.”

Responsorial PsalmPsalm 112:1-2, 3-4, 5-6*

1Praise the Lord!Blessed is the man who fears the Lord, who delights greatly in his commandments.2His offspring will be mighty in the land. The generation of the upright will be blessed.

3Wealth and riches are in his house. His righteousness endures forever.4Light dawns in the darkness for the upright, gracious, merciful, and righteous.

5It is well with the man who deals graciously and lends. He will maintain his cause in judgment.6For he will never be shaken. The righteous will be remembered forever.

GospelMark 12:1-12

From the Gospel according to Mark

1He began to speak to them in parables.“A man planted a vineyard, put a hedge around it,dug a pit for the wine press, built a tower, rented it out to a farmer, and went into another country.2When it was time, he sent a servant to the farmer to get from the farmer his share of the fruit of the vineyard.3They took him, beat him, and sent him away empty.4Again, he sent another servant to them;and they threw stones at him, wounded him in the head, and sent him away shamefully treated.5Again he sent another, and they killed him,and many others, beating some, and killing some.6Therefore still having one,his beloved son, he sent him last to them, saying, ‘They will respect my son.’7But those farmers said among themselves,‘This is the heir.Come, let’s kill him, and the inheritance will be ours.’8They took him, killed him,and cast him out of the vineyard.9What therefore will the lord of the vineyard do?He will come and destroy the farmers, and will give the vineyard to others.10Haven’t you even read this Scripture:

‘The stone which the builders rejectedwas made the head of the corner.11This was from the Lord.It is marvelous in our eyes’?”

12They tried to seize him, but they feared the multitude;for they perceived that he spoke the parable against them. They left him and went away.

EpistleLectio

Léctio Epístolæ beáti Joánni Apóstoli

1 Joannnes 4:8-21

Lesson from the first letter of St John the Apostle

1 John 4:8-21

Dearly beloved: He that loveth not, knoweth not God: for God is charity. By this hath the charity of God appeared towards us, because God hath sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we may live by him. In this is charity: not as though we had loved God, but because he hath first loved us, and sent his Son to be a propitiation for our sins. My dearest, if God hath so loved us; we also ought to love one another. No man hath seen God at any time. If we love one another, God abideth in us, and his charity is perfected in us. In this we know that we abide in him, and he in us: because he hath given us of his spirit. And we have seen, and do testify, that the Father hath sent his Son to be the Saviour of the world. Whosoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God abideth in him, and he in God. And we have known, and have believed the charity, which God hath to us. God is charity: and he that abideth in charity, abideth in God, and God in him. In this is the charity of God perfected with us, that we may have confidence in the day of judgment: because as he is, we also are in this world. Fear is not in charity: but perfect charity casteth out fear, because fear hath pain. And he that feareth, is not perfected in charity. Let us therefore love God, because God first hath loved us. If any man say, I love God, and hateth his brother; he is a liar. For he that loveth not his brother, whom he seeth, how can he love God, whom he seeth not? And this commandment we have from God, that he, who loveth God, love also his brother.

GospelEvangelium

Sequéntia ☩ sancti Evangélii secúndum Lucam

Luc 6:36-42

Continuation ☩ of the Holy Gospel according to Luke

Luke 6:36-42

In that time Jesus said to his disciples: Be ye therefore merciful, as your Father also is merciful. Judge not, and you shall not be judged. Condemn not, and you shall not be condemned. Forgive, and you shall be forgiven. Give, and it shall be given to you: good measure and pressed down and shaken together and running over shall they give into your bosom. For with the same measure that you shall mete withal, it shall be measured to you again. And he spoke also to them a similitude: Can the blind lead the blind? do they not both fall into the ditch? The disciple is not above his master: but every one shall be perfect, if he be as his master. And why seest thou the mote in thy brother's eye: but the beam that is in thy own eye thou considerest not? Or how canst thou say to thy brother: Brother, let me pull the mote out of thy eye, when thou thyself seest not the beam in thy own eye? Hypocrite, cast first the beam out of thy own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to take out the mote from thy brother's eye.
