First ReadingActs 4:23-31

From the Acts of the Apostles

23Being let go, they came to their own company and reported allthat the chief priests and the elders had said to them.24When they heard it,they lifted up their voice to God with one accord and said,“O Lord, you are God,who made the sky, the earth, the sea, and all that is in them;25who by the mouth of your servant David, said,

‘Why do the nations rage, and the peoples plot a vain thing?26The kings of the earth take a stand, and the rulers plot together, against the Lord, and against his Christ.’

27“For truly, both Herod and Pontius Pilate, with the Gentiles and the people of Israel, were gathered together against your holy servant Jesus, whom you anointed,28to do whatever your handand your counsel foreordained to happen.29Now, Lord, look at their threats, and grant to your servants to speak your word with all boldness,30while you stretch out your hand to heal;and that signsand wonders may be done through the name of your holy Servant Jesus.”

31When they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were gathered together. They were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and they spoke the word of God with boldness.

Responsorial PsalmPsalm 2:1-3, 4-7a, 7b-9

1Why do the nations rage, and the peoples plot a vain thing?2The kings of the earth take a stand, and the rulers take counsel together, against the Lord, and against his Anointed, saying,3“Let’s break their bonds apart, and cast their cords from us.”

4He who sits in the heavens will laugh. The Lord will have them in derision.5Then he will speak to them in his anger, and terrify them in his wrath:6“Yet I have set my King on my holy hill of Zion.”7I will tell of the decree:

7The Lord said to me, “You are my son.Today I have become your father.8Ask of me, and I will give the nations for your inheritance, the uttermost parts of the earth for your possession.9You shall break them with a rod of iron. You shall dash them in pieces like a potter’s vessel.”

GospelJohn 3:1-8

From the Gospel according to John

1Now there was a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus,a ruler of the Jews.2He came to Jesus by night and said to him,“Rabbi, we know that you are a teacherwho has come from God,for no one can do these signs that you do,unless God is with him.”

3Jesus answered him,“Most certainly I tell you,unless one is born anew,he can’t see God’s Kingdom.”

4Nicodemus said to him,“How can a man be born when he is old?Can he enter a second time into his mother’s womb and be born?”

5Jesus answered, “Most certainly I tell you, unless one is born of water and Spirit,he can’t enter into God’s Kingdom.6That which is born of the flesh is flesh. That which is born of the Spirit is spirit.7Don’t marvel that I said to you,‘You must all be born anew.’8The wind blows where it wants to,and you hear its sound, but don’t know where it comes from and where it is going. So is everyone who is born of the Spirit.”

2 Cor 10:17-18; 11:1-2

Fratres: Qui gloriátur, in Dómino gloriétur.

Lesson from the second letter of St. Paul the Apostle to the Corinthians

2 Cor 10:17-18; 11:1-2

Brothers: He that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord. For not he who commendeth himself, is approved, but he, whom God commendeth. Would to God you could bear with some little of my folly: but do bear with me. For I am jealous of you with the jealousy of God. For I have espoused you to one husband that I may present you as a chaste virgin to Christ.

Sequéntia ☩ sancti Evangélii secúndum Matthǽum

Matt 25:1-13

In illo témpore: Dixit Jesus discípulis suis parábolam hanc: Símile erit regnum coelórum decem virgínibus: quæ, accipiéntes lámpades suas, exiérunt óbviam sponso et sponsæ. At ille respóndens, ait: Amen, dico vobis, néscio vos. Vigiláte ítaque, quia nescítis diem neque horam.

Continuation ☩ of the Holy Gospel according to Matthew

Matt 25:1-13.

At that time Jesus spoke this parable to His disciples: “Then will the kingdom of heaven be like ten virgins who took their lamps and went forth to meet the bridegroom and the bride. Five of them were foolish and five wise. But the five foolish, when they took their lamps, took no oil with them, while the wise did take oil in their vessels with the lamps. Then as the bridegroom was long in coming, they all became drowsy and slept. And at midnight a cry arose, 'Behold, the bridegroom is coming, go forth to meet him!' Then all those virgins arose and trimmed their lamps. And the foolish said to the wise, 'Give us some of your oil, for our lamps are going out.' The wise answered, saying, 'Lest there may not be enough for us and for you, go rather to those who sell it, and buy some for yourselves.' Now while they were gone to buy it, the bridegroom came; and those who were ready went in with him to the marriage feast, and the door was shut. Finally there came also the other virgins, who said, 'Sir, sir, open the door for us!' But he answered and said, 'Amen I say to you, I do not know you.' Watch therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour.”

Paschalis

Easter

It is truly meet and just, right and for our salvation, at all times to praise Thee, O Lord, but more gloriously especially in this season when Christ our Pasch was sacrificed. For He is the Lamb Who hath taken away the sins of the world: Who by dying hath destroyed our death: and by rising again hath restored us to life. And therefore with Angels and Archangels, with Thrones and Dominations, and with all the hosts of the heavenly army, we sing the hymn of Thy glory, evermore saying:
