First ReadingAmos 5:14-15, 21-24

From the Book of Amos

14Seek good, and not evil, that you may live;and so the Lord, the God of Armies, will be with you,as you say.15Hate evil, love good, and establish justice in the courts. It may be that the Lord, the God of Armies, will be gracious to the remnant of Joseph.” verses 16–20 are not read21I hate, I despise your feasts, and I can’t stand your solemn assemblies.22Yes, though you offer me your burnt offerings and meal offerings,I will not accept them;neither will I regard the peace offerings of your fat animals.23Take away from me the noise of your songs!I will not listen to the music of your harps.24But let justice roll on like rivers, and righteousness like a mighty stream.

Responsorial PsalmPsalm 50:7, 8-9, 10-11, 12-13, 16bc-17

7“Hear, my people, and I will speak.Israel, I will testify against you.I am God, your God.

8I don’t rebuke you for your sacrifices.Your burnt offerings are continually before me.9I have no need for a bull from your stall, nor male goats from your pens.

10For every animal of the forest is mine, and the livestock on a thousand hills.11I know all the birds of the mountains. The wild animals of the field are mine.

12If I were hungry, I would not tell you,for the world is mine, and all that is in it.13Will I eat the meat of bulls,or drink the blood of goats?

16But to the wicked God says,“What right do you have to declare my statutes, that you have taken my covenant on your lips,17since you hate instruction, and throw my words behind you?

GospelMatthew 8:28-34

From the Gospel according to Matthew

28When he came to the other side, into the country of the Gergesenes, two people possessed by demons met him there, coming out of the tombs, exceedingly fierce,so that nobody could pass that way.29Behold, they cried out, saying, “What do we have to do with you,Jesus, Son of God?Have you come here to torment us before the time?”30Now there was a herd of many pigs feeding far away from them.31The demons begged him, saying, “If you cast us out, permit us to go away into the herd of pigs.”

32He said to them, “Go!”

They came out and went into the herd of pigs;and behold, the whole herd of pigs rushed down the cliff into the seaand died in the water.33Those who fed them fledand went away into the city and told everything, including what happened to thosewho were possessed with demons.34Behold, all the city came out to meet Jesus. When they saw him, they begged that he would depart from their borders.

Ps 26:3

Si consístant advérsum me castra: non timébit cor meum.

Léctio Epístolæ beáti Pauli Apóstoli ad Romános

Rom 8:18-23

Lesson from the letter of St. Paul the Apostle to the Romans

Rom 8:18-23

Brethren: I reckon that the sufferings of the present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory to come that will be revealed in us. For the eager longing of creation awaits the revelation of the sons of God. For creation was made subject to vanity - not by its own will but by reason of Him Who made it subject - in hope, because creation itself also will be delivered from its slavery to corruption into the freedom of the glory of the sons of God. For we know that all creation groans and travails in pain until now. And not only it, but we ourselves also who have the first-fruits of the Spirit - we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption as sons of God, the redemption of our body, in Christ Jesus our Lord.

℣.Adjuva nos, Deus, salutáris noster: et propter honórem nóminis tui, Dómine, líbera nos.

Allelúja, allelúja.

Ps 9:5; 9:10

Deus, qui sedes super thronum, et júdicas æquitátem: esto refúgium páuperum in tribulatióne. Allelúja.

Ps. 78:9-10

Pardon our sins, O Lord; why should the nations say, Where is their God?

℣.Help us, O God our Saviour; because of the glory of Your name, O Lord, deliver us. Alleluia, alleluia.

Ps. 9:5; 9:10

Sequéntia ☩ sancti Evangélii secúndum Lucam

Luc 5:1-11

In illo témpore: Cum turbæ irrúerent in Jesum, ut audírent verbum Dei, et ipse stabat secus stagnum Genésareth. Et vidit duas naves stantes secus stagnum: piscatóres autem descénderant et lavábant rétia. Ascéndens autem in unam navim, quæ erat Simónis, rogávit eum a terra redúcere pusíllum.

Continuation ☩ of the Holy Gospel according to Luke

Luke 5:1-11

At that time, while the crowds were pressing upon Jesus to hear the word of God, He was standing by Lake Genesareth. And He saw two boats moored by the lake, but the fishermen had left them and were washing their nets. And getting into one of the boats, the one that was Simon’s, He asked him to put out a little from the land. And sitting down, He began to teach the crowds from the boat. But when He had ceased speaking, He said to Simon, Put out into the deep, and lower your nets for a catch. And Simon answered and said to Him, Master, the whole night through we have toiled and have taken nothing; but at Your word I will lower the net. And when they had done so, they enclosed a great number of fishes, but their net was breaking. And they beckoned to their comrades in the other boat to come and help them. And they came and filled both the boats, so that they began to sink. But when Simon Peter saw this, he fell down at Jesus’ knees, saying, Depart from me, for I am a sinful man, O Lord. For he and all who were with him were amazed at the catch of fish they had made; and so were also James and John, the sons of Zebedee, who were partners with Simon. And Jesus said to Simon, Do not be afraid; henceforth you shall catch men. And when they had brought their boats to land, they left all and followed Him.
