First ReadingActs 9:1-20

From the Acts of the Apostles

1But Saul, still breathing threatsand slaughter against the disciples of the Lord, went to the high priest2and asked for letters from him to the synagogues of Damascus, that if he found any who were of the Way,whether men or women,he might bring them bound to Jerusalem.3As he traveled, he got close to Damascus, and suddenly a light from the sky shone around him.4He fell on the earth, and heard a voice saying to him,“Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me?”

5He said, “Who are you, Lord?”

The Lord said, “I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting.6But rise up and enter into the city, then you will be told what you must do.”

7The men who traveled with him stood speechless, hearing the sound, but seeing no one.8Saul arose from the ground, and when his eyes were opened, he saw no one. They led him by the hand and brought him into Damascus.9He was without sight for three days, and neither ate nor drank.

10Now there was a certain disciple at Damascus named Ananias. The Lord said to him in a vision, “Ananias!”

He said, “Behold, it’s me, Lord.”

11The Lord said to him,“Arise and go to the street which is called Straight, and inquire in the house of Judah for one named Saul, a man of Tarsus. For behold, he is praying,12and in a vision he has seen a man named Ananias coming inand laying his hands on him, that he might receive his sight.”

13But Ananias answered,“Lord, I have heard from many about this man,how much evil he did to your saints at Jerusalem.14Here he has authority from the chief priests to bind allwho call on your name.”

15But the Lord said to him,“Go your way, for he is my chosen vessel to bear my name before the nations and kings, and the children of Israel.16For I will show him how many things he must suffer for my name’s sake.”

17Ananias departed and entered into the house.Laying his hands on him,he said, “Brother Saul, the Lord, who appeared to you on the road by which you came, has sent me that you may receive your sightand be filled with the Holy Spirit.”18Immediately something like scales fell from his eyes, and he received his sight. He arose and was baptized.19He took food and was strengthened.

Saul stayed several days with the discipleswho were at Damascus.20Immediately in the synagogues he proclaimed the Christ, that he is the Son of God.

Responsorial PsalmPsalm 117:1bc, 2

2For his loving kindness is great toward us.The Lord’s faithfulness endures forever.Praise the Lord!

GospelJohn 6:52-59

From the Gospel according to John

52The Jews therefore contended with one another, saying, “How can this man give us his flesh to eat?”

53Jesus therefore said to them,“Most certainly I tell you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Manand drink his blood, you don’t have life in yourselves.54He who eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day.55For my flesh is food indeed, and my blood is drink indeed.56He who eats my fleshand drinks my blood lives in me, and I in him.57As the living Father sent me,and I live because of the Father,so he who feeds on me will also live because of me.58This is the bread which came down out of heaven—not as our fathers ate the manna and died.He who eats this bread will live forever.”59He said these things in the synagogue,as he taught in Capernaum.

Léctio libri Sapiéntiæ

Sap 5:1-5

Lesson from the book of Wisdom

Wis. 5:1-5

The just shall stand with great assurance before their oppressors who set at nought their labors. Seeing this, these shall be shaken with dreadful fear, and amazed at the suddenness of the unlooked-for salvation. They shall say among themselves, rueful and groaning through anguish of spirit: These are they whom once we held as a laughingstock and as a type for mockery, fools that we were! Their life we deemed madness, and their death dishonored. See how they are accounted among the sons of God; how their lot is with the Saints!

GradualGraduale

℣.Te Mártyrum candidátus laudat exércitus, Dómine. Allelúja.

Alleluia, alleluia.

℣.This is the true brotherhood, which overcame the wickedness of the world; it followed Christ, attaining the noble kingdom of heaven. Alleluia.

℣.The white-robed army of Martyrs praises You, O Lord. Alleluia.

Sequéntia ☩ sancti Evangélii secúndum Joánnem

Joannes 4:46-53

In illo témpore: Erat quidam régulus, cujus fílius infirmabátur Caphárnaum.

Continuation ☩ of the Holy Gospel according to John

John 4:46-53

At that time, there was a certain royal official whose son was lying sick at Capharnaum. When he heard that Jesus had come from Judea into Galilee, he went to Him and besought Him to come down and heal his son, for he was at the point of death. Jesus therefore said to him, Unless you see signs and wonders, you do not believe. The royal official said to Him, Sir, come down before my child dies. Jesus said to him, Go your way, your son lives. The man believed the word that Jesus spoke to him, and departed. But even as he was now going down, his servants met him and brought word saying that his son lived. He asked of them therefore the hour in which he had got better. And they told him, Yesterday, at the seventh hour, the fever left him. The father knew then that it was at that very hour in which Jesus had said to him, Your son lives. And he himself believed, and his whole household.

PrefacePrefatio

Paschalis

Easter

It is truly meet and just, right and for our salvation, at all times to praise Thee, O Lord, but more gloriously especially in this season when Christ our Pasch was sacrificed. For He is the Lamb Who hath taken away the sins of the world: Who by dying hath destroyed our death: and by rising again hath restored us to life. And therefore with Angels and Archangels, with Thrones and Dominations, and with all the hosts of the heavenly army, we sing the hymn of Thy glory, evermore saying:
