First ReadingActs 16:11-15

From the Acts of the Apostles

11Setting sail therefore from Troas,we made a straight course to Samothrace, and the day following to Neapolis;12and from there to Philippi, which is a city of Macedonia, the foremost of the district, a Roman colony. We were staying some days in this city.

13On the Sabbath day we went outside of the city by a riverside, where we supposed there was a place of prayer, and we sat down and spoke to the womenwho had come together.14A certain woman named Lydia,a seller of purple,of the city of Thyatira, one who worshiped God, heard us.The Lord opened her heart to listen to the thingswhich were spoken by Paul.15When she and her household were baptized, she begged us, saying,“If you have judged me to be faithful to the Lord, come into my house and stay.”So she persuaded us.

Responsorial PsalmPsalm 149:1b-2, 3-4, 5-6a and 9b

1Praise the Lord!Sing to the Lord a new song, his praise in the assembly of the saints.2Let Israel rejoice in him who made them.Let the children of Zion be joyful in their King.

3Let them praise his name in the dance!Let them sing praises to him with tambourine and harp!4For the Lord takes pleasure in his people. He crowns the humble with salvation.

5Let the saints rejoice in honor.Let them sing for joy on their beds.6May the high praises of God be in their mouths, and a two-edged sword in their hand,9to execute on them the written judgment. All his saints have this honor.Praise the Lord!

GospelJohn 15:26—16:4a

From the Gospel according to John

26“When the Counselor has come, whom I will send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth, who proceeds from the Father,he will testify about me.27You will also testify, because you have been with me from the beginning.

1“I have said these things to you sothat you wouldn’t be caused to stumble.2They will put you out of the synagogues.Yes, the time is coming that whoever kills you will thinkthat he offers service to God.3They will do these thingsbecause they have not known the Father nor me.4But I have told you these thingsso that when the time comes, you may remember that I told you about them.I didn’t tell you these things from the beginning, because I was with you.

EpistleLectio

Léctio Epístolæ beáti Pauli Apóstoli ad Corinthios

1 Cor 1:17-25.

Lesson from the first letter of St. Paul the Apostle to the Corinthians

1 Cor 1:17-25.

Brothers: Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel: not in wisdom of speech, lest the cross of Christ should be made void. For the word of the cross, to them indeed that perish, is foolishness; but to them that are saved, that is, to us, it is the power of God. For it is written: I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and the prudence of the prudent I will reject. Where is the wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the disputer of this world? Hath not God made foolish the wisdom of this world? For seeing that in the wisdom of God the world, by wisdom, knew not God, it pleased God, by the foolishness of our preaching, to save them that believe. For both the Jews require signs, and the Greeks seek after wisdom: But we preach Christ crucified, unto the Jews indeed a stumbling-block, and unto the Gentiles foolishness: But unto them that are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God. For the foolishness of God is wiser than men; and the weakness of God is stronger than men.

2 Cor 5:15

Alleluja, alleluja

2 Cor 5:15

And Christ died for all; that they also who live, may not now live to themselves, but unto him who died for them, and rose again. Alleluja.

Rom 8:17

And if sons, heirs also; heirs indeed of God, and joint heirs with Christ: yet so, if we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified with him. Alleluja.

Luc 10:1-9

Continuation ☩ of the Holy Gospel according to Luke

Luke 10:1-9

At that time, the Lord appointed seventy-two others, and sent them forth two by two before Him into every town and place where He Himself was about to come. And He said to them, The harvest indeed is great, but the laborers are few. Pray therefore the Lord of the harvest to send forth laborers into His harvest. Go. Behold, I send you forth as lambs in the midst of wolves. Carry neither purse, nor wallet, nor sandals, and greet no one on the way. Whatever house you enter, first say, ‘Peace to this house!’ And if a son of peace be there, your peace will rest upon him; but if not, it will return to you. And remain in the same house, eating and drinking what they have; for the laborer deserves his wages. Do not go from house to house. And whatever town you enter, and they receive you, eat what is set before you, and cure the sick who are there, and say to them, ‘The kingdom of God is at hand for you.’

Easter

It is truly meet and just, right and for our salvation, at all times to praise Thee, O Lord, but more gloriously especially in this season when Christ our Pasch was sacrificed. For He is the Lamb Who hath taken away the sins of the world: Who by dying hath destroyed our death: and by rising again hath restored us to life. And therefore with Angels and Archangels, with Thrones and Dominations, and with all the hosts of the heavenly army, we sing the hymn of Thy glory, evermore saying:

Léctio Epístolæ beáti Jacóbi Apóstoli.

Jas 5:16-20

Lesson from the letter of St James the Apostle

Jas 5:16-20

Dearly beloved: Confess therefore your sins one to another: and pray one for another, that you may be saved. For the continual prayer of a just man availeth much. Elias was a man passible like unto us: and with prayer he prayed that it might not rain upon the earth, and it rained not for three years and six months. And he prayed again: and the heaven gave rain, and the earth brought forth her fruit. My brethren, if any of you err from the truth, and one convert him: He must know that he who causeth a sinner to be converted from the error of his way, shall save his soul from death, and shall cover a multitude of sins.

Continuation ☩ of the Holy Gospel according to Luke

Luke 11:5-13

In that time: Jesus said to His disciples: Which of you shall have a friend, and shall go to him at midnight, and shall say to him: Friend, lend me three loaves, Because a friend of mine is come off his journey to me, and I have not what to set before him. And he from within should answer, and say: Trouble me not, the door is now shut, and my children are with me in bed; I cannot rise and give thee. Yet if he shall continue knocking, I say to you, although he will not rise and give him, because he is his friend; yet, because of his importunity, he will rise, and give him as many as he needeth. And I say to you, Ask, and it shall be given you: seek, and you shall find: knock, and it shall be opened to you. For every one that asketh, receiveth; and he that seeketh, findeth; and to him that knocketh, it shall be opened. And which of you, if he ask his father bread, will he give him a stone? or a fish, will he for a fish give him a serpent? Or if he shall ask an egg, will he reach him a scorpion? If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father from heaven give the good Spirit to them that ask him?
