First Reading1 Peter 1:10-16

From the First Letter of Peter

10Concerning this salvation, the prophets sought and searched diligently. They prophesied of the grace that would come to you,11searching forwho or what kind of time the Spirit of Christwhich was in them pointed towhen he predicted the sufferings of Christand the glories that would follow them.12To them it was revealed that they served not themselves, but you, in these things, which now have been announced to you through thosewho preached the Good News to you by the Holy Spirit sent out from heaven;which things angels desire to look into.

13Therefore prepare your minds for action.Be sober, and set your hope fully on the gracethat will be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ—14as children of obedience, not conforming yourselves according to your former lusts as in your ignorance,15but just as he who called you is holy, you yourselves also be holy in all of your behavior,16because it is written, “You shall be holy, for I am holy.”

Responsorial PsalmPsalm 98:1, 2-3ab, 3cd-4

1Sing to the Lord a new song, for he has done marvelous things! His right hand and his holy arm have worked salvation for him.

2The Lord has made known his salvation. He has openly shown his righteousness in the sight of the nations.3He has remembered his loving kindness and his faithfulness toward the house of Israel.

3All the ends of the earth have seen the salvation of our God.4Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth!Burst out and sing for joy, yes, sing praises!

GospelMark 10:28-31

From the Gospel according to Mark

28Peter began to tell him,“Behold, we have left all and have followed you.”

29Jesus said, “Most certainly I tell you, there is no one who has left house,or brothers, or sisters,or father, or mother,or wife, or children,or land, for my sake, and for the sake of the Good News,30but he will receive one hundred times more now in this time:houses, brothers, sisters, mothers, children, and land, with persecutions;and in the age to come eternal life.31But many who are first will be last, and the last first.”

EpistleLectio

Léctio Epístolæ beáti Pauli Apóstoli ad Timótheum

2 Tim 4:1-8

Lesson from the second letter of St Paul the Apostle to Timothy

2 Tim 4:1-8

Dearly beloved: I charge thee, before God and Jesus Christ, who shall judge the living and the dead, by his coming, and his kingdom: Preach the word: be instant in season, out of season: reprove, entreat, rebuke in all patience and doctrine. For there shall be a time, when they will not endure sound doctrine; but, according to their own desires, they will heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears: And will indeed turn away their hearing from the truth, but will be turned unto fables. But be thou vigilant, labour in all things, do the work of an evangelist, fulfil thy ministry. Be sober. For I am even now ready to be sacrificed: and the time of my dissolution is at hand. I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith. As to the rest, there is laid up for me a crown of justice, which the Lord the just judge will render to me in that day: and not only to me, but to them also that love his coming.

GospelEvangelium

Sequéntia ☩ sancti Evangélii secúndum Matthǽum

Matt 5:13-19

In illo témpore: Dixit Jesus discípulis suis: Vos estis sal terræ.

Continuation ☩ of the Holy Gospel according to Matthew

Matt 5:13-19

In that time Jesus said to His disciples: You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt lose its savour, wherewith shall it be salted? It is good for nothing any more but to be cast out, and to be trodden on by men. You are the light of the world. A city seated on a mountain cannot be hid. Neither do men light a candle and put it under a bushel, but upon a candlestick, that it may shine to all that are in the house. So let your light shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven. Do not think that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets. I am not come to destroy, but to fulfill. For amen I say unto you, till heaven and earth pass, one jot, or one tittle shall not pass of the law, till all be fulfilled. He therefore that shall break one of these least commandments, and shall so teach men, shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven. But he that shall do and teach, he shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.
