First ReadingDeuteronomy 11:18, 26-28, 32

From the Book of Deuteronomy

18Therefore you shall lay up these words of mine in your heart and in your soul. You shall bind them for a sign on your hand, and they shall be for frontlets between your eyes. verses 19–25 are not read26Behold, I set before you today a blessing and a curse:27the blessing, if you listen to the commandments of the Lord your God,which I command you today;28and the curse, if you do not listen to the commandments of the Lord your God,but turn away out of the way which I command you today,to go after other gods which you have not known. verses 29–31 are not read32You shall observe to do all the statutesand the ordinances which I set before you today.

Responsorial PsalmPsalm 31:2-3, 3-4, 17, 25

2In you, Lord, I take refuge.Let me never be disappointed.Deliver me in your righteousness.3Bow down your ear to me.Deliver me speedily.

3Be to me a strong rock,a house of defense to save me.4For you are my rock and my fortress, therefore for your name’s sake lead me and guide me.

17Make your face to shine on your servant.Save me in your loving kindness.

25Be strong, and let your heart take courage, all you who hope in the Lord.

Second ReadingRomans 3:21-25, 28

From the Letter of Paul to the Romans

21But now apart from the law,a righteousness of God has been revealed, being testified by the law and the prophets;22even the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ to alland on all those who believe. For there is no distinction,23for all have sinned, and fall short of the glory of God;24being justified freely by his grace through the redemptionthat is in Christ Jesus,25whom God sent to be an atoning sacrifice through faith in his blood, for a demonstration of his righteousness through the passing over of prior sins,in God’s forbearance; verses 26–27 are not read28We maintain thereforethat a man is justified by faith apart from the works of the law.

GospelMatthew 7:21-27

From the Gospel according to Matthew

21“Not everyone who says to me,‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter into the Kingdom of Heaven, but he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.22Many will tell me in that day,‘Lord, Lord, didn’t we prophesy in your name,in your name cast out demons, and in your name do many mighty works?’23Then I will tell them, ‘I never knew you.Depart from me, you who work iniquity.’

24“Everyone thereforewho hears these words of mine and does them,I will liken him to a wise manwho built his house on the rock.25The rain came down, the floods came, and the winds blewand beat on that house;and it didn’t fall, for it was founded on the rock.26Everyone who hears these words of mineand doesn’t do them will be like a foolish manwho built his house on the sand.27The rain came down, the floods came, and the winds blewand beat on that house;and it fell—and its fall was great.”

Léctio Epístolæ beáti Petri Apóstoli

1 Pet. 5:6-11

Caríssimi: Humiliámini sub poténti manu Dei, ut vos exáltet in témpore visitatiónis: omnem sollicitúdinem vestram projiciéntes in eum, quóniam ipsi cura est de vobis. Sóbrii estote et vigiláte: quia adversárius vester diábolus tamquam leo rúgiens circuit, quærens, quem dévoret: cui resístite fortes in fide: sciéntes eándem passiónem ei, quæ in mundo est, vestræ fraternitáti fíeri. Deus autem omnis grátiæ, qui vocávit nos in ætérnam suam glóriam in Christo Jesu, módicum passos ipse perfíciet, confirmábit solidabítque. Ipsi glória et impérium in sǽcula sæculórum. Amen.

Lesson from the first letter of St. Peter the Apostle

1 Pet. 5:6-11

Beloved: Humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in the time of visitation; cast all your anxiety upon Him, because He cares for you. Be sober, be watchful! For your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, goes about seeking someone to devour. Resist him, steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same suffering befalls your brethren all over the world. But the God of all grace, Who has called us unto His eternal glory in Christ Jesus, will Himself, after we have suffered a little while, perfect, strengthen and establish us. To Him is the glory and the dominion forever and ever. Amen.

Ps. 7:12

℣.When I called upon the Lord, He heard my voice from those who war against me. Alleluia, alleluia.

GospelEvangelium

Sequéntia ☩ sancti Evangélii secúndum Lucam

Luc 15:1-10

Continuation ☩ of the Holy Gospel according to Luke

Luke 15:1-10

At that time, the publicans and sinners were drawing near to Him to listen to Him. And the Pharisees and the Scribes murmured, saying, This man welcomes sinners and eats with them. But He spoke to them this parable, saying, What man of you having a hundred sheep, and losing one of them, does not leave the ninety-nine in the desert, and go after that which is lost, until he finds it? And when he has found it, he lays it upon his shoulders rejoicing. And on coming home he calls together his friends and neighbors, saying to them, ‘Rejoice with me, because I have found my sheep that was lost.’ I say to you that, even so, there will be joy in heaven over one sinner who repents, more then over ninety-nine just who have no need of repentance. Or what woman, having ten drachmas, if she loses one drachma, does not light a lamp and sweep the house and search carefully until she finds it? And when she has found it, she calls together her friends and neighbors, saying, ‘Rejoice with me, for I have found the drachma that I had lost.’ Even so, I say to you, there will be joy among the angels of God over one sinner who repents.

PrefacePrefatio

Holy Trinity

It is truly meet and just, right and for our salvation, that we should at all times, and in all places, give thanks unto Thee, O holy Lord, Father almighty, everlasting God; Who, together with Thine only-begotten Son, and the Holy Ghost, art one God, one Lord: not in the oneness of a single Person, but in the Trinity of one substance. For what we believe by Thy revelation of Thy glory, the same do we believe of Thy Son, the same of the Holy Ghost, without difference or separation. So that in confessing the true and everlasting Godhead, distinction in persons, unity in essence, and equality in majesty may be adored. Which the Angels and Archangels, the Cherubim also and Seraphim do praise: who cease not daily to cry out, with one voice saying:
