First ReadingEzekiel 2:8—3:4

From the Book of Ezekiel

8But you, son of man, hear what I tell you.Don’t be rebellious like that rebellious house.Open your mouth, and eat that which I give you.”

9When I looked, behold, a hand was stretched out to me;and behold, a scroll of a book was in it.10He spread it before me.It was written within and without;and lamentations, mourning, and woe were written in it.

1He said to me, “Son of man, eat what you find.Eat this scroll, and go, speak to the house of Israel.”

2So I opened my mouth, and he caused me to eat the scroll.

3He said to me, “Son of man,eat this scroll that I give youand fill your belly and your bowels with it.”

Then I ate it.It was as sweet as honey in my mouth.

4He said to me, “Son of man,go to the house of Israel, and speak my words to them.

Responsorial PsalmPsalm 119:14 and 24, 72 and 103, 111 and 131

14I have rejoiced in the way of your testimonies,as much as in all riches.24Indeed your statutes are my delight, and my counselors.

72The law of your mouth is better to me than thousands of pieces of gold and silver.103How sweet are your promises to my taste, more than honey to my mouth!

111I have taken your testimonies as a heritage forever, for they are the joy of my heart.131I opened my mouth wide and panted, for I longed for your commandments.

GospelMatthew 18:1-5, 10, 12-14

From the Gospel according to Matthew

1In that hour the disciples came to Jesus, saying, “Who then is greatest in the Kingdom of Heaven?”

2Jesus called a little child to himself, and set him in the middle of them3and said, “Most certainly I tell you, unless you turn and become as little children, you will in no way enter into the Kingdom of Heaven.4Whoever therefore humbles himself as this little child is the greatest in the Kingdom of Heaven.5Whoever receives one such little child in my name receives me, verses 6–9 are not read10See that you don’t despise one of these little ones, for I tell youthat in heaven their angels always see the face of my Father who is in heaven.

12“What do you think? If a man has one hundred sheep, and one of them goes astray, doesn’t he leave the ninety-nine,go to the mountains, and seek that which has gone astray?13If he finds it, most certainly I tell you,he rejoices over it more than over the ninety-ninewhich have not gone astray.14Even so it is not the will of your Father who is in heaventhat one of these little ones should perish.

Léctio Epístolæ beáti Pauli Apóstoli ad Corínthios

2 Cor 10:17-18; 11:1-2

Fratres: Qui gloriátur, in Dómino gloriétur.

Lesson from the second letter of St. Paul the Apostle to the Corinthians

2 Cor 10:17-18; 11:1-2

Brothers: He that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord. For not he who commendeth himself, is approved, but he, whom God commendeth. Would to God you could bear with some little of my folly: but do bear with me. For I am jealous of you with the jealousy of God. For I have espoused you to one husband that I may present you as a chaste virgin to Christ.

Sequéntia ☩ sancti Evangélii secúndum Matthǽum

Matt 25:1-13

In illo témpore: Dixit Jesus discípulis suis parábolam hanc: Símile erit regnum coelórum decem virgínibus: quæ, accipiéntes lámpades suas, exiérunt óbviam sponso et sponsæ. At ille respóndens, ait: Amen, dico vobis, néscio vos. Vigiláte ítaque, quia nescítis diem neque horam.

Continuation ☩ of the Holy Gospel according to Matthew

Matt 25:1-13.

At that time Jesus spoke this parable to His disciples: “Then will the kingdom of heaven be like ten virgins who took their lamps and went forth to meet the bridegroom and the bride. Five of them were foolish and five wise. But the five foolish, when they took their lamps, took no oil with them, while the wise did take oil in their vessels with the lamps. Then as the bridegroom was long in coming, they all became drowsy and slept. And at midnight a cry arose, 'Behold, the bridegroom is coming, go forth to meet him!' Then all those virgins arose and trimmed their lamps. And the foolish said to the wise, 'Give us some of your oil, for our lamps are going out.' The wise answered, saying, 'Lest there may not be enough for us and for you, go rather to those who sell it, and buy some for yourselves.' Now while they were gone to buy it, the bridegroom came; and those who were ready went in with him to the marriage feast, and the door was shut. Finally there came also the other virgins, who said, 'Sir, sir, open the door for us!' But he answered and said, 'Amen I say to you, I do not know you.' Watch therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour.”

It is truly meet and just, and profitable unto salvation, that we should at all times, and in all places, give thanks to Thee, O Holy Lord, Father Almighty, eternal God, through Christ, our Lord. Through whom the Angels praise Thy Majesty, the Dominions adore it, the Powers are in awe. Which the heavens and the hosts of heaven together with the blessed Seraphim joyfully do magnify. And do Thou command that it be permitted us to join with them in confessing Thee, while we say with lowly praise:
