First ReadingIsaiah 11:1-10

From the Book of Isaiah

1A shoot will come out of the stock of Jesse, and a branch out of his roots will bear fruit.2The Lord’s Spirit will rest on him:the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord.3His delight will be in the fear of the Lord.He will not judge by the sight of his eyes, neither decide by the hearing of his ears;4but he will judge the poor with righteousness, and decide with equity for the humble of the earth. He will strike the earth with the rod of his mouth;and with the breath of his lips he will kill the wicked.5Righteousness will be the belt around his waist, and faithfulness the belt around his waist.6The wolf will live with the lamb, and the leopard will lie down with the young goat, the calf, the young lion, and the fattened calf together;and a little child will lead them.7The cow and the bear will graze.Their young ones will lie down together. The lion will eat straw like the ox.8The nursing child will play near a cobra’s hole, and the weaned child will put his hand on the viper’s den.9They will not hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain;for the earth will be full of the knowledge of the Lord,as the waters cover the sea.

10It will happen in that daythat the nations will seek the root of Jesse, who stands as a banner of the peoples;and his resting place will be glorious.

Responsorial PsalmPsalm 72:1-2, 7-8, 12-13, 17

1God, give the king your justice;your righteousness to the royal son.2He will judge your people with righteousness, and your poor with justice.

7In his days, the righteous shall flourish, and abundance of peace, until the moon is no more.8He shall have dominion also from sea to sea, from the River to the ends of the earth.

12For he will deliver the needy when he cries;the poor, who has no helper.13He will have pity on the poor and needy. He will save the souls of the needy.

17His name endures forever. His name continues as long as the sun.Men shall be blessed by him.All nations will call him blessed.

GospelLuke 10:21-24

From the Gospel according to Luke

21In that same hour,Jesus rejoiced in the Holy Spirit, and said, “I thank you,O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that you have hidden these things from the wise and understanding, and revealed them to little children.Yes, Father, for so it was well-pleasing in your sight.”

22Turning to the disciples,he said, “All things have been delivered to me by my Father. No one knows who the Son is,except the Father, and who the Father is,except the Son,and he to whomever the Son desires to reveal him.”

23Turning to the disciples,he said privately,“Blessed are the eyes which see the things that you see,24for I tell you that many prophetsand kings desired to see the things which you see,and didn’t see them, and to hear the things which you hear, and didn’t hear them.”

EpistleLectio

Lectio Epístolæ beáti Pauli Apóstoli ad Romános

Rom 13:11-14.

Lesson from the letter of St. Paul the Apostle to the Romans

Rom 13:11-14

Brethren: Understand, for it is now the hour for us to rise from sleep, because now our salvation is nearer than when we came to believe. The night is far advanced; the day is at hand. Let us therefore lay aside the works of darkness, and put on the armor of light. Let us walk becomingly as in the day, not in revelry and drunkenness, not in debauchery and wantonness, not in strife and jealousy. But put on the Lord Jesus Christ.

GospelEvangelium

Sequéntia ☩ sancti Evangélii secundum Lucam

Luc 21:25-33.

Continuation ☩ of the Holy Gospel according to Luke

Luke 21:25-33

At that time, Jesus said to His disciples: There will be signs in the sun and moon and stars, and upon the earth distress of nations bewildered by the roaring of sea and waves; men fainting for fear and for expectation of the things that are coming on the world; for the powers of heaven will be shaken. And then they will see the son of Man coming upon a cloud with great power and majesty. but when these things begin to come to pass, look up, and lift up your heads, because your redemption is at hand. And He spoke to them a parable. Behold the fig tree, and all the trees. When they now put forth their buds, you know that summer is near. Even so, when you see these things coming to pass, know that the kingdom of God is near. Amen I say to you, this generation will not pass away till all things have been accomplished. Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will not pass away.

It is truly meet and just, and profitable unto salvation, that we should at all times, and in all places, give thanks to Thee, O Holy Lord, Father Almighty, eternal God, through Christ, our Lord. Through whom the Angels praise Thy Majesty, the Dominions adore it, the Powers are in awe. Which the heavens and the hosts of heaven together with the blessed Seraphim joyfully do magnify. And do Thou command that it be permitted us to join with them in confessing Thee, while we say with lowly praise:
