First Reading1 Corinthians 5:1-8

From the First Letter of Paul to the Corinthians

1It is actually reportedthat there is sexual immorality among you,and such sexual immorality as is not even named among the Gentiles, that one has his father’s wife.2You are arrogant, and didn’t mourn instead, that he who had done this deed might be removed from among you.3For I most certainly,as being absent in body but present in spirit, have already, as though I were present, judged him who has done this thing.4In the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, when you are gathered together with my spirit with the power of our Lord Jesus Christ,5you are to deliver such a one to Satan for the destruction of the flesh, that the spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus.

6Your boasting is not good.Don’t you know that a little yeast leavens the whole lump?7Purge out the old yeast, that you may be a new lump, even as you are unleavened. For indeed Christ, our Passover, has been sacrificed in our place.8Therefore let’s keep the feast, not with old yeast, neither with the yeast of malice and wickedness, but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.

Responsorial PsalmPsalm 5:5-6, 7, 12

5For you are not a God who has pleasure in wickedness.Evil can’t live with you.6The arrogant will not stand in your sight. You hate all workers of iniquity.

7You will destroy those who speak lies. The Lord abhors the bloodthirsty and deceitful man.

12But let all those who take refuge in you rejoice.Let them always shout for joy, because you defend them.Let them also who love your name be joyful in you.

GospelLuke 6:6-11

From the Gospel according to Luke

6It also happened on another Sabbaththat he entered into the synagogue and taught. There was a man there, and his right hand was withered.7The scribes and the Pharisees watched him,to see whether he would heal on the Sabbath, that they might find an accusation against him.8But he knew their thoughts;and he said to the man who had the withered hand,“Rise up and stand in the middle.”He arose and stood.9Then Jesus said to them, “I will ask you something:Is it lawful on the Sabbath to do good, or to do harm?To save a life, or to kill?”10He looked around at them all,and said to the man,“Stretch out your hand.”He did, and his hand was restored as sound as the other.11But they were filled with rage, and talked with one another about what they might do to Jesus.

CollectOratio

Be mindful, O Lord, of our humble prayers in this commemoration of Blessed Nicholas, Your Confessor, so that we, who have no confidence in our own righteousness, may be helped by the merits of those who have been pleasing to You.

EpistleLectio

Léctio Epístolæ beáti Pauli Apóstoli ad Corínthios

1 Cor 4:9-14

Lesson from the first letter of St Paul the Apostle to the Corinthians

1 Cor. 4:9-14

Brethren: We have been made a spectacle to the world, and to angels, and to men. We are fools for Christ, but you are wise in Christ! We are weak, but you are strong! You are honored, but we are without honor! To this very hour we hunger and thirst, and we are naked and buffeted, and have no fixed abode. And we toil, working with our own hands. We are reviled and we bless, we are persecuted and we bear with it, we are maligned and we entreat, we have become as the refuse of this world, the offscouring of all, even until now! I write these things not to put you to shame, but to admonish you as my dearest children, in Christ Jesus our Lord.

GospelEvangelium

Sequéntia ☩ sancti Evangélii secúndum Lucam

Luc 12:32-34

In illo témpore: Dixit Jesus discípulis suis: Nolíte timére, pusíllus grex, quia complácuit Patri vestro dare vobis regnum.

Continuation ☩ of the Holy Gospel according to Luke

Luke 12:32-34

At that time, Jesus said to His disciples, Do not be afraid, little flock, for it has pleased your Father to give you the kingdom. Sell what you have and give alms. Make for yourselves purses that do not grow old, a treasure unfailing in heaven, where neither thief draws near nor moth destroys. For where your treasure is, there also will your heart be.

Common

It is truly meet and just, and profitable unto salvation, that we should at all times, and in all places, give thanks to Thee, O Holy Lord, Father Almighty, eternal God, through Christ, our Lord. Through whom the Angels praise Thy Majesty, the Dominions adore it, the Powers are in awe. Which the heavens and the hosts of heaven together with the blessed Seraphim joyfully do magnify. And do Thou command that it be permitted us to join with them in confessing Thee, while we say with lowly praise:
