First ReadingTobit 3:1-11a, 16-17a

From the Book of Tobit

1I was grieved and wept, and prayed in sorrow, saying,

2“O Lord, you are righteous,and all your works and all your ways are mercy and truth,and you judge true and righteous judgment forever.3Remember me, and look at me.Don’t take vengeance on me for my sins and my ignorances,and the sins of my fathers who sinned before you.4For they disobeyed your commandments.You gave us as plunder,for captivity, for death,and for a proverb of reproach to all the nations amongwhom we are dispersed.5Now your judgments are many and true,that you should deal with me according to my sinsand the sins of my fathers,because we didn’t keep your commandments,for we didn’t walk in truth before you.6Now deal with me according to thatwhich is pleasing in your sight.Command my spirit to be taken from me,that I may be released, and become earth.For it is more profitable for me to die rather than to live,because I have heard false reproaches,and there is much sorrow in me.Command that I be released from my distress,now, and go to the everlasting place.Don’t turn your face away from me.”

7The same day it happened to Sarah the daughter of Raguel in Ecbatana of Media,that she also was reproached by her father’s maidservants;8because that she had been given to seven husbands,and Asmodaeus the evil spirit killed them,before they had lain with her.And they said to her,“Do you not know that you strangle your husbands?You have had already seven husbands,and you haven’t borne the name of any one of them.9Why do you scourge us?If they are dead, go your ways with them.Let us never see either son or daughter from you.”10When she heard these things,she was grieved exceedingly,so that she thought about hanging herself.Then she said, “I am the only daughter of my father.If I do this, it will be a reproach to him,and I will bring down his old age with sorrow to the grave.”11Then she prayed by the window,and said, “Blessed are you,O Lord my God, and blessed is your holyand honorable name forever!Let all your works praise you forever!

verses 12–15 are not read16The prayer of both was heard before the glory of the great God.17Raphael also was sent to heal them both,to scale away the white films from Tobit’s eyes,and to give Sarah the daughter of Raguel for a wife to Tobias the son of Tobit;and to bind Asmodaeus the evil spirit;because it belonged to Tobias that he should inherit her.At that very time,Tobit returned and entered into his house,and Sarah the daughter of Raguel came down from her upper chamber.

Responsorial PsalmPsalm 25:2-3, 4-5ab, 6 and 7bc, 8-9

2My God, I have trusted in you.Don’t let me be shamed.Don’t let my enemies triumph over me.3Yes, no one who waits for you will be shamed.They will be shamed who deal treacherously without cause.

4Show me your ways, Lord.Teach me your paths.5Guide me in your truth, and teach me,for you are the God of my salvation.I wait for you all day long.

6Lord, remember your tender mercies and your loving kindness,for they are from old times.7Don’t remember the sins of my youth, nor my transgressions.Remember me according to your loving kindness,for your goodness’ sake, Lord.

8Good and upright is the Lord,therefore he will instruct sinners in the way.9He will guide the humble in justice.He will teach the humble his way.

GospelMark 12:18-27

From the Gospel according to Mark

18Some Sadducees, who saythat there is no resurrection, came to him.They asked him, saying,19“Teacher, Moses wrote to us,‘If a man’s brother dies and leaves a wife behind him,and leaves no children,that his brother should take his wifeand raise up offspring for his brother.’20There were seven brothers.The first took a wife, and dying left no offspring.21The second took her,and died, leaving no children behind him.The third likewise;22and the seven took her and left no children.Last of all the woman also died.23In the resurrection,when they rise, whose wife will she be of them?For the seven had her as a wife.”

24Jesus answered them,“Isn’t this because you are mistaken,not knowing the Scriptures nor the power of God?25For when they will rise from the dead,they neither marry nor are given in marriage,but are like angels in heaven.26But about the dead,that they are raised,haven’t you read in the book of Moses about the Bush,how God spoke to him,saying, ‘I am the God of Abraham,the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob’?27He is not the God of the dead, but of the living.You are therefore badly mistaken.”

Léctio Actuum Apostolórum

Act 2:14-21.

Deo gratias.

Lesson from the Acts of Apostles

Acts 2:14-21.

In those days, Peter, standing up with the Eleven, lifted up his voice and spoke out to them: Men of Judea and all you who dwell in Jerusalem, let this be known to you, and give ear to my words. These men are not drunk, as you suppose, for it is only the third hour of the day. But this is what was spoken through the prophet Joel: ‘And it shall come to pass in the last days, says the Lord, that I will pour forth of My Spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams. And moreover upon My servants and upon My handmaids in those days will I pour forth of My Spirit, and they shall prophesy. And I will show wonders in the heavens above and signs on the earth beneath, blood and fire and vapor of smoke. The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the day of the Lord comes, the great and manifest day. And it shall come to pass that whoever calls upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.’

Thanks be to God.

Léctio Actuum Apostolórum

Acts 5:12-16

Lesson from the Acts of Apostles

Acts 5:12-16

In those days, by the hands of the Apostles many signs and wonders were done among the people. And with one accord they all would meet in Solomon’s portico; but of the rest, no one dared to associate with them, yet the people made much of them. And the multitude of men and women who believed in the Lord increased still more, so that they carried the sick into the streets and laid them on beds and pallets that, when Peter passed, his shadow at least might fall on some of them. And there came also multitudes from the towns near Jerusalem, bringing the sick and those troubled with unclean spirits, and they were all cured.

Holy Spirit! Lord of light!

From Thy clear celestial height, Thy pure, beaming radiance give:

Come, Thou, Father of the poor!

Come, with treasures which endure!

Come, Thou light of all that live!

Thou of all consolers best,

Visiting the troubled breast,

Dost refreshing peace bestow:

Thou in toil art comfort sweet;

Pleasant coolness in the heat;

Solace in the midst of woe.

Light immortal! Light divine!

Visit Thou these hearts of Thine, And our inmost being fill.

If Thou take Thy grace away,

Nothing pure in man will stay;

All his good is turn’d to ill.

Heal our wounds - our strength renew;

On our dryness pour Thy dew;

Wash the stains of guilt away:

Bend the stubborn heart and will;

Melt the frozen, warm the chill;

Guide the steps that go astray.

Thou, on those who evermore

Thee confess and Thee adore,

In Thy sevenfold gifts descend.

Give them comfort when they die;

Give them life with Thee on high;

Give them joys which never end.

Amen. Alleluia.

GospelEvangelium

Sequéntia ☩ sancti Evangélii secúndum Joánnem

Joannes 6:44-52

In illo témpore: Dixit Jesus turbis Judæórum: Nemo potest veníre ad me, nisi Pater, qui misit me, tráxerit eum: et ego resuscitábo eum in novíssimo die. Est scriptum in Prophétis: Et erunt omnes docíbiles Dei. Omnis, qui audívit a Patre et dídicit, venit ad me. Non quia Patrem vidit quisquam, nisi is, qui est a Deo, hic vidit Patrem. Amen, amen, dico vobis: qui credit in me, habet vitam ætérnam.

Continuation ☩ of the Holy Gospel according to John

John 6:44-52.

At that time, Jesus said to the Jews: No one can come to Me unless the Father Who sent Me draw him, and I will raise him up on the last day. It is written in the Prophets, “And they all shall be taught of God.” Everyone who has listened to the Father, and has learned, comes to Me; not that anyone has seen the Father except Him Who is from God, He has seen the Father. Amen, amen, I say to you, he who believes in Me has life everlasting. I am the bread of life. Your fathers ate the manna in the desert, and have died. This is the bread that comes down from heaven, so that if anyone eat of it he will not die. I am the living bread that has come down from heaven. If anyone eat of this bread he shall live forever; and the bread that I will give is My flesh for the life of the world.
