First ReadingAmos 7:10-17

From the Book of Amos

10Then Amaziah the priest of Bethel sent to Jeroboam king of Israel, saying, “Amos has conspired against you in the middle of the house of Israel. The land is not able to bear all his words.11For Amos says, ‘Jeroboam will die by the sword, and Israel shall surely be led away captive out of his land.’”

12Amaziah also said to Amos,“You seer, go, flee away into the land of Judah, and there eat bread, and prophesy there,13but don’t prophesy again any more at Bethel;for it is the king’s sanctuary, and it is a royal house!”

14Then Amos answered Amaziah,“I was no prophet, neither was I a prophet’s son,but I was a herdsman, and a farmer of sycamore figs;15and the Lord took me from following the flock, and the Lord said to me,‘Go, prophesy to my people Israel.’16Now therefore listen to the Lord’s word:‘You say, Don’t prophesy against Israel, and don’t preach against the house of Isaac.’17Therefore the Lord says:‘Your wife shall be a prostitute in the city, and your sons and your daughters shall fall by the sword, and your land shall be divided by line;and you yourself shall die in a land that is unclean, and Israel shall surely be led away captive out of his land.’”

Responsorial PsalmPsalm 19:8, 9, 10, 11

8The Lord’s law is perfect, restoring the soul. The Lord’s covenant is sure, making wise the simple.

9The Lord’s precepts are right, rejoicing the heart. The Lord’s commandment is pure, enlightening the eyes.

10The fear of the Lord is clean, enduring forever. The Lord’s ordinances are true, and righteous altogether.

11They are more to be desired than gold, yes, than much fine gold, sweeter also than honey and the extract of the honeycomb.

GospelMatthew 9:1-8

From the Gospel according to Matthew

1He entered into a boat and crossed over, and came into his own city.2Behold, they brought to him a manwho was paralyzed, lying on a bed.Jesus, seeing their faith, said to the paralytic, “Son, cheer up!Your sins are forgiven you.”

3Behold, some of the scribes said to themselves,“This man blasphemes.”

4Jesus, knowing their thoughts, said, “Why do you think evil in your hearts?5For which is easier, to say, ‘Your sins are forgiven;’or to say, ‘Get up, and walk’?6But that you may knowthat the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins—” (then he said to the paralytic),“Get up, and take up your mat,and go to your house.”

7He arose and departed to his house.8But when the multitudes saw it,they marveled and glorified God,who had given such authority to men.

Léctio Epístolæ beáti Pauli Apóstoli ad Romános

Rom 6:3-11

Fratres: Quicúmque baptizáti sumus in Christo Jesu, in morte ipsíus baptizáti sumus.

Lesson from the letter of St. Paul the Apostle to the Romans

Rom 6:3-11.

Brethren: All we who have been baptized into Christ Jesus have been baptized into His death. For we were buried with Him by means of Baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ has arisen from the dead through the glory of the Father, so we also may walk in newness of life. For if we have been united with Him in the likeness of His death, we shall be so in the likeness of His resurrection also. For we know that our old self has been crucified with Him, in order that the body of sin may be destroyed, that we may no longer be slaves to sin; for he who is dead is acquitted of sin. But if we have died with Christ, we believe that we shall also live together with Christ; for we know that Christ, having risen from the dead, dies now no more, death shall no longer have dominion over Him. For the death that He died, He died to sin once for all, but the life that He lives, He lives unto God. Thus do you consider yourselves also as dead to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Sequéntia ☩ sancti Evangélii secúndum Marcum

Marc 8:1-9

Continuation ☩ of the Holy Gospel according to Mark

Mark 8:1-9

At that time, when there was a great crowd with Jesus, and they had nothing to eat, He called His disciples together and said to them, I have compassion on the crowd, for behold, they have now been with Me three days, and have nothing to eat; and if I send them away to their homes fasting, they will faint on the way, for some of them have come from a distance. And His disciples answered Him, How will anyone be able to satisfy these with bread, here in a desert? And He asked them, How many loaves have you? And they said, Seven. And He bade the crowd recline on the ground. Then taking the seven loaves, He gave thanks, broke them and gave them to His disciples to distribute; and they set them before the crowd. And they had a few little fishes; and He blessed them, and ordered them to be distributed. And they ate and were satisfied; and they took up what was left of the fragments, seven baskets. Now those who had eaten were about four thousand. And He dismissed them.
