First ReadingRevelation 14:14-19

From the Book of Revelation

14I looked, and saw a white cloud, and on the cloud one sitting like a son of man, having on his head a golden crown, and in his hand a sharp sickle.15Another angel came out of the temple, crying with a loud voice to him who sat on the cloud,“Send your sickle and reap, for the hour to reap has come;for the harvest of the earth is ripe!”16He who sat on the cloud thrust his sickle on the earth, and the earth was reaped.

17Another angel came out of the temple which is in heaven. He also had a sharp sickle.18Another angel came out from the altar,he who has power over fire, and he called with a great voice to himwho had the sharp sickle, saying, “Send your sharp sickleand gather the clusters of the vine of the earth, for the earth’s grapes are fully ripe!”19The angel thrust his sickle into the earth, and gathered the vintage of the earthand threw it into the great wine press of the wrath of God.

Responsorial PsalmPsalm 96:10, 11-12, 13

10Say among the nations, “The Lord reigns.”The world is also established. It can’t be moved. He will judge the peoples with equity.

11Let the heavens be glad, and let the earth rejoice.Let the sea roar, and its fullness!12Let the field and all that is in it exult! Then all the trees of the woods shall sing for joy

13before the Lord; for he comes, for he comes to judge the earth. He will judge the world with righteousness, the peoples with his truth.

GospelLuke 21:5-11

From the Gospel according to Luke

5As some were talking about the templeand how it was decorated with beautiful stones and gifts, he said,6“As for these things which you see,the days will come inwhich there will not be left here one stone on anotherthat will not be thrown down.”

7They asked him, “Teacher, so when will these things be?What is the sign that these things are about to happen?”

8He said, “Watch out that you don’t get led astray, for many will come in my name, saying, ‘I am he,’and, ‘The time is at hand.’Therefore don’t follow them.9When you hear of wars and disturbances, don’t be terrified, for these things must happen first, but the end won’t come immediately.”

10Then he said to them,“Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom.11There will be great earthquakes, famines, and plagues in various places. There will be terrors and great signs from heaven.

EpistleLectio

Léctio Epístolæ beáti Pauli Apóstoli ad Timótheum

2 Tim 4:1-8

Lesson from the second letter of St Paul the Apostle to Timothy

2 Tim 4:1-8

Dearly beloved: I charge thee, before God and Jesus Christ, who shall judge the living and the dead, by his coming, and his kingdom: Preach the word: be instant in season, out of season: reprove, entreat, rebuke in all patience and doctrine. For there shall be a time, when they will not endure sound doctrine; but, according to their own desires, they will heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears: And will indeed turn away their hearing from the truth, but will be turned unto fables. But be thou vigilant, labour in all things, do the work of an evangelist, fulfil thy ministry. Be sober. For I am even now ready to be sacrificed: and the time of my dissolution is at hand. I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith. As to the rest, there is laid up for me a crown of justice, which the Lord the just judge will render to me in that day: and not only to me, but to them also that love his coming.

GospelEvangelium

Sequéntia ☩ sancti Evangélii secúndum Matthǽum

Matt 5:13-19

In illo témpore: Dixit Jesus discípulis suis: Vos estis sal terræ.

Continuation ☩ of the Holy Gospel according to Matthew

Matt 5:13-19

In that time Jesus said to His disciples: You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt lose its savour, wherewith shall it be salted? It is good for nothing any more but to be cast out, and to be trodden on by men. You are the light of the world. A city seated on a mountain cannot be hid. Neither do men light a candle and put it under a bushel, but upon a candlestick, that it may shine to all that are in the house. So let your light shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven. Do not think that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets. I am not come to destroy, but to fulfill. For amen I say unto you, till heaven and earth pass, one jot, or one tittle shall not pass of the law, till all be fulfilled. He therefore that shall break one of these least commandments, and shall so teach men, shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven. But he that shall do and teach, he shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.
