First ReadingActs 5:34-42

From the Acts of the Apostles

34But one stood up in the council,a Pharisee named Gamaliel,a teacher of the law, honored by all the people, and commanded to put the apostles out for a little while.35He said to them, “You men of Israel,be careful concerning these men, what you are about to do.36For before these days Theudas rose up,making himself out to be somebody;to whom a number of men, about four hundred, joined themselves. He was slain;and all, as many as obeyed him, were dispersed and came to nothing.37After this man, Judas of Galilee rose up in the days of the enrollment, and drew away some people after him.He also perished, and all,as many as obeyed him, were scattered abroad.38Now I tell you, withdraw from these menand leave them alone. For if this counsel or this work is of men,it will be overthrown.39But if it is of God,you will not be able to overthrow it,and you would be found even to be fighting against God!”

40They agreed with him.Summoning the apostles, they beat themand commanded them not to speak in the name of Jesus, and let them go.41They therefore departed from the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer dishonor for Jesus’ name.

42Every day, in the temple and at home, they never stopped teachingand preaching Jesus, the Christ.

Responsorial PsalmPsalm 27:1, 4, 13-14

1The Lord is my light and my salvation.Whom shall I fear? The Lord is the strength of my life.Of whom shall I be afraid?

4One thing I have asked of the Lord, that I will seek after:that I may dwell in the Lord’s house all the days of my life,to see the Lord’s beauty, and to inquire in his temple.

13I am still confident of this:I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.14Wait for the Lord.Be strong, and let your heart take courage.Yes, wait for the Lord.

GospelJohn 6:1-15

From the Gospel according to John

1After these things,Jesus went away to the other side of the sea of Galilee, which is also called the Sea of Tiberias.2A great multitude followed him, because they saw his signswhich he did on those who were sick.3Jesus went up into the mountain, and he sat there with his disciples.4Now the Passover, the feast of the Jews, was at hand.5Jesus therefore, lifting up his eyes and seeingthat a great multitude was coming to him, said to Philip, “Where are we to buy bread, that these may eat?”6He said this to test him,for he himself knew what he would do.

7Philip answered him,“Two hundred denarii worth of bread is not sufficient for them, that every one of them may receive a little.”

8One of his disciples,Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, said to him,9“There is a boy herewho has five barley loaves and two fish, but what are these among so many?”

10Jesus said, “Have the people sit down.”Now there was much grass in that place. So the men sat down, in number about five thousand.11Jesus took the loaves, and having given thanks,he distributed to the disciples, and the disciples to those who were sitting down, likewise also of the fish as much as they desired.12When they were filled,he said to his disciples,“Gather up the broken pieces which are left over, that nothing be lost.”13So they gathered them up,and filled twelve baskets with broken pieces from the five barley loaves, which were left over by those who had eaten.14When therefore the people saw the sign which Jesus did, they said, “This is truly the prophetwho comes into the world.”15Jesus therefore, perceiving that they were about to comeand take him by force to make him king, withdrew again to the mountain by himself.

Lord Jesus Christ, Who didst gift thine holy servant Paul with great love that he might preach the mystery of thy cross, and hast been pleased that through him a new family should grow up in thy Church, grant unto us at his prayers that upon earth we may so call thy sufferings to mind as worthily to gain the fruit thereof in heaven.

EpistleLectio

Léctio Epístolæ beáti Pauli Apóstoli ad Corinthios

1 Cor 1:17-25.

Lesson from the first letter of St. Paul the Apostle to the Corinthians

1 Cor 1:17-25.

Brothers: Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel: not in wisdom of speech, lest the cross of Christ should be made void. For the word of the cross, to them indeed that perish, is foolishness; but to them that are saved, that is, to us, it is the power of God. For it is written: I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and the prudence of the prudent I will reject. Where is the wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the disputer of this world? Hath not God made foolish the wisdom of this world? For seeing that in the wisdom of God the world, by wisdom, knew not God, it pleased God, by the foolishness of our preaching, to save them that believe. For both the Jews require signs, and the Greeks seek after wisdom: But we preach Christ crucified, unto the Jews indeed a stumbling-block, and unto the Gentiles foolishness: But unto them that are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God. For the foolishness of God is wiser than men; and the weakness of God is stronger than men.

GradualGraduale

Allelúja, allelúja.

2 Cor 5:15

Alleluja, alleluja

2 Cor 5:15

And Christ died for all; that they also who live, may not now live to themselves, but unto him who died for them, and rose again. Alleluja.

Rom 8:17

And if sons, heirs also; heirs indeed of God, and joint heirs with Christ: yet so, if we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified with him. Alleluja.

Sequéntia ☩ sancti Evangélii secúndum Lucam

Luc 10:1-9

Continuation ☩ of the Holy Gospel according to Luke

Luke 10:1-9

At that time, the Lord appointed seventy-two others, and sent them forth two by two before Him into every town and place where He Himself was about to come. And He said to them, The harvest indeed is great, but the laborers are few. Pray therefore the Lord of the harvest to send forth laborers into His harvest. Go. Behold, I send you forth as lambs in the midst of wolves. Carry neither purse, nor wallet, nor sandals, and greet no one on the way. Whatever house you enter, first say, ‘Peace to this house!’ And if a son of peace be there, your peace will rest upon him; but if not, it will return to you. And remain in the same house, eating and drinking what they have; for the laborer deserves his wages. Do not go from house to house. And whatever town you enter, and they receive you, eat what is set before you, and cure the sick who are there, and say to them, ‘The kingdom of God is at hand for you.’

Vere dignum et justum est, æquum et salutáre: Te quidem, Dómine, omni témpore, sed in hoc potíssimum (sed tempore Passionis)

hac potíssimum nocte (sed octava Paschæ)

Easter

It is truly meet and just, right and for our salvation, at all times to praise Thee, O Lord, but more gloriously especially in this season (sed tempore Passionis)

on this night (sed octava Paschæ)

on this day when Christ our Pasch was sacrificed. For He is the Lamb Who hath taken away the sins of the world: Who by dying hath destroyed our death: and by rising again hath restored us to life. And therefore with Angels and Archangels, with Thrones and Dominations, and with all the hosts of the heavenly army, we sing the hymn of Thy glory, evermore saying:
