First ReadingHebrews 12:4-7, 11-15

From the Letter to the Hebrews

4You have not yet resisted to blood, striving against sin.5You have forgotten the exhortationwhich reasons with you as with children,

“My son, don’t take lightly the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when you are reproved by him;6for whom the Lord loves, he disciplines, and chastises every son whom he receives.”

7It is for discipline that you endure.God deals with you as with children, for what son is there whom his father doesn’t discipline? verses 8–10 are not read11All chastening seems for the present to be not joyous but grievous;yet afterward it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to thosewho have been trained by it.12Therefore lift up the handsthat hang down and the feeble knees,13and make straight paths for your feet,so what is lame may not be dislocated, but rather be healed.

14Follow after peace with all men,and the sanctification withoutwhich no man will see the Lord,15looking carefully lest there be any manwho falls short of the grace of God,lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble youand many be defiled by it,

Responsorial PsalmPsalm 103:1-2, 13-14, 17-18a

1Praise the Lord, my soul! All that is within me, praise his holy name!2Praise the Lord, my soul, and don’t forget all his benefits,

13Like a father has compassion on his children,so the Lord has compassion on those who fear him.14For he knows how we are made.He remembers that we are dust.

17But the Lord’s loving kindness is from everlasting to everlasting with those who fear him,his righteousness to children’s children,18to those who keep his covenant,to those who remember to obey his precepts.

GospelMark 6:1-6

From the Gospel according to Mark

1He went out from there. He came into his own country, and his disciples followed him.2When the Sabbath had come,he began to teach in the synagogue, and many hearing him were astonished, saying, “Where did this man get these things?”and, “What is the wisdom that is given to this man, that such mighty works come about by his hands?3Isn’t this the carpenter, the son of Mary and brother of James,Joses, Judah, and Simon?Aren’t his sisters here with us?”So they were offended at him.

4Jesus said to them,“A prophet is not without honor, except in his own country, and among his own relatives, and in his own house.”5He could do no mighty work there, except that he laid his hands on a few sick people and healed them.6He marveled because of their unbelief.

He went around the villages teaching.

EpistleLectio

Léctio Epístolæ beáti Pauli Apóstoli ad Philippénses.

Philipp 4:4-9

Fratres: Gaudéte in Dómino semper: íterum dico, gaudéte.

Lesson from the letter of St. Paul the Apostle to the Philippians

Phil 4:4-9

Brethren: Rejoice in the Lord always; again I say, rejoice. Let your moderation be known to all men. The Lord is near. Have no anxiety, but in every prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your petitions be made known to God. And may the peace of God which surpasses all understanding guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. For the rest, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever honorable, whatever just, whatever holy, whatever lovable, whatever of good repute, if there be any virtue, if anything worthy of praise, think upon these things. And what you have learned and received and heard and seen in me, these things practice. And the God of peace will be with you.

℣.Quóniam tu, Deus, exaudísti oratiónem meam: dedísti hereditátem timéntibus nomen tuum.

Ps 60:4-6

You are my refuge, O Lord, a tower of strength against the enemy.

℣.Oh, that I might lodge in Your tent forever, take refuge in the shelter of Your wings!

℣.You indeed, O God, have accepted my vows; You granted me the heritage of those who fear Your name.

GospelEvangelium

Sequéntia ☩ sancti Evangélii secúndum Matthǽum.

Matt 18:1-5

Continuation ☩ of the Holy Gospel according to Matthew

Matt 18:1-5

At that time, the disciples came to Jesus, saying, Who then is greatest in the kingdom of heaven? And Jesus called a little child to Him, set him in their midst, and said, Amen I say to you, unless you turn and become like little children, you will not enter into the kingdom of heaven. Whoever, therefore, humbles himself as this little child, he is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. And whoever receives one such little child for My sake, receives Me.

Common

It is truly meet and just, and profitable unto salvation, that we should at all times, and in all places, give thanks to Thee, O Holy Lord, Father Almighty, eternal God, through Christ, our Lord. Through whom the Angels praise Thy Majesty, the Dominions adore it, the Powers are in awe. Which the heavens and the hosts of heaven together with the blessed Seraphim joyfully do magnify. And do Thou command that it be permitted us to join with them in confessing Thee, while we say with lowly praise:
