First ReadingHebrews 11:1-2, 8-19

From the Letter to the Hebrews

1Now faith is assurance of things hoped for, proof of things not seen.2For by this, the elders obtained approval.

verses 3–7 are not read8By faith Abraham, when he was called, obeyed to go out to the placewhich he was to receive for an inheritance. He went out, not knowing where he went.9By faith he lived as an alien in the land of promise,as in a land not his own, dwelling in tents with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise.10For he was looking for the city which has foundations, whose builder and maker is God.

11By faith even Sarah herself received power to conceive, and she bore a child when she was past age, since she counted him faithful who had promised.12Therefore as many as the stars of the sky in multitude, and as innumerable as the sand which is by the sea shore, were fathered by one man,and him as good as dead.

13These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them and embraced them from afar, and having confessed that they were strangersand pilgrims on the earth.14For those who say such things make it clearthat they are seeking a country of their own.15If indeed they had been thinking ofthat country from which they went out, they would have had enough time to return.16But now they desire a better country, that is, a heavenly one. Therefore God is not ashamed of them,to be called their God,for he has prepared a city for them.

17By faith, Abraham, being tested, offered up Isaac.Yes, he who had gladly received the promises was offering up his only born son,18to whom it was said,“Your offspring will be accounted as from Isaac,”19concluding that God is able to raise up even from the dead.Figuratively speaking,he also did receive him back from the dead.

Responsorial PsalmLuke 1:69-70, 71-72, 73-75

From the Gospel according to Luke

69and has raised up a horn of salvation for us in the house of his servant David70(as he spoke by the mouth of his holy prophets who have been from of old),

71salvation from our enemies and from the hand of all who hate us;72to show mercy toward our fathers,to remember his holy covenant,

73the oath which he swore to Abraham our father,74to grant to us that we, being delivered out of the hand of our enemies, should serve him without fear,75in holiness and righteousness before him all the days of our life.

GospelMark 4:35-41

From the Gospel according to Mark

35On that day, when evening had come,he said to them, “Let’s go over to the other side.”36Leaving the multitude, they took him with them, even as he was, in the boat.Other small boats were also with him.37A big wind storm arose, and the waves beat into the boat,so much that the boat was already filled.38He himself was in the stern, asleep on the cushion;and they woke him up and asked him,“Teacher, don’t you care that we are dying?”

39He awoke and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, “Peace!Be still!” The wind ceased and there was a great calm.40He said to them, “Why are you so afraid? How is it that you have no faith?”

41They were greatly afraid and said to one another,“Who then is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?”

EpistleLectio

Léctio Epistolæ beáti Pauli Apóstoli ad Romános

Rom 8:35-39

Fratres: Quis nos separábit a caritáte Christi: tribulátio, an angustia, an fames, an núditas, an perículum, an persecútio, an gládius? sicut scriptum est: Quia propter te mortificámur tota die: æstimáti sumus sicut oves occisiónis.

Lesson from the letter of St. Paul the Apostle to the Romans

Rom 8:35-39

Brethren, who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation? or distress? or famine? Or nakedness? or danger? Or persecution? or the sword? As it is written: For Thy sake we are put to death all the day long: we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter. But in all these things we overcome because of Him that hath loved us. For I am sure that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor might, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Sequéntia ☩ sancti Evangélii secúndum Joánnem

Joann 12:24-26

Continuation ☩ of the Holy Gospel according to John

John 12:24-26

At that time, Jesus said to His Disciples, “Amen, amen, I say to you, unless the grain of wheat falls into the ground and dies, it remains alone. But if it dies, it brings forth much fruit. He who loves his life, loses it; and he who hates his life in this world, keeps it unto life everlasting. If anyone serves Me, let him follow Me; and where I am there also shall My servant be. If anyone serves Me, My Father will honor him.”

Common

It is truly meet and just, and profitable unto salvation, that we should at all times, and in all places, give thanks to Thee, O Holy Lord, Father Almighty, eternal God, through Christ, our Lord. Through whom the Angels praise Thy Majesty, the Dominions adore it, the Powers are in awe. Which the heavens and the hosts of heaven together with the blessed Seraphim joyfully do magnify. And do Thou command that it be permitted us to join with them in confessing Thee, while we say with lowly praise:

CommunionCommunio

Fruméntum Christi sum: déntibus bestiárum molar, ut panis mundus invéniar.

I am the wheat of Christ; may I be ground by the teeth of beasts, that I may be found pure bread.
