First ReadingLeviticus 25:1, 8-17

From the Book of Leviticus

1The Lord said to Moses on Mount Sinai,

verses 2–7 are not read8“‘You shall count off seven Sabbaths of years, seven times seven years;and there shall be to you the days of seven Sabbaths of years, even forty-nine years.9Then you shall sound the loud trumpet on the tenth day of the seventh month. On the Day of Atonement you shall sound the trumpet throughout all your land.10You shall make the fiftieth year holy, and proclaim liberty throughout the land to all its inhabitants. It shall be a jubilee to you;and each of you shall return to his own property, and each of you shall return to his family.11That fiftieth year shall be a jubilee to you.In it you shall not sow, neither reap that which grows of itself, nor gather from the undressed vines.12For it is a jubilee;it shall be holy to you.You shall eat of its increase out of the field.

13“‘In this Year of Jubilee each of you shall return to his property.

14“‘If you sell anything to your neighbor,or buy from your neighbor, you shall not wrong one another.15According to the number of years after the Jubilee you shall buy from your neighbor.According to the number of years of the crops he shall sell to you.16According to the length of the years you shall increase its price, and according to the shortness of the years you shall diminish its price;for he is selling the number of the crops to you.17You shall not wrong one another, but you shall fear your God;for I am the Lord your God.

Responsorial PsalmPsalm 67:2-3, 5, 7-8

2May God be merciful to us, bless us,and cause his face to shine on us.3That your way may be known on earth, and your salvation among all nations,

5Oh let the nations be glad and sing for joy,for you will judge the peoples with equity, and govern the nations on earth.

7The earth has yielded its increase.God, even our own God, will bless us.8God will bless us.All the ends of the earth shall fear him.

GospelMatthew 14:1-12

From the Gospel according to Matthew

1At that time, Herod the tetrarch heard the report concerning Jesus,2and said to his servants, “This is John the Baptizer. He is risen from the dead. That is why these powers work in him.”3For Herod had arrested John, bound him, and put him in prison for the sake of Herodias, his brother Philip’s wife.4For John said to him,“It is not lawful for you to have her.”5When he would have put him to death,he feared the multitude, because they counted him as a prophet.6But when Herod’s birthday came, the daughter of Herodias danced among them and pleased Herod.7Therefore he promised with an oath to give her whatever she should ask.8She, being prompted by her mother, said, “Give me here on a platter the head of John the Baptizer.”

9The king was grieved, but for the sake of his oaths and of thosewho sat at the table with him,he commanded it to be given,10and he sent and beheaded John in the prison.11His head was brought on a platterand given to the young lady;and she brought it to her mother.12His disciples came, took the body, and buried it.Then they went and told Jesus.

EpistleLectio

Léctio Epístolæ beáti Pauli Apóstoli ad Timótheum

2 Tim 2:1-7

Caríssime: Confortáre in grátia, quæ est in Christo Jesu: et quæ audísti a me per multos testes, hæc comménda fidélibus homínibus, qui idónei erunt et alios docére.

Lesson from the second letter of St. Paul the Apostle to Timothy

2 Tim. 2:1-7

Dearly beloved: Be strengthened in the grace which is in Christ Jesus; and the things that you have heard from me through many witnesses, commend to trustworthy men who shall be competent in turn to teach others. Conduct yourself in work as a good soldier of Christ Jesus. No one serving as God's soldier entangles himself in worldly affairs, that he may please him whose approval he has secured. And again, one who enters a contest is not crowned unless he has competed according to the rules. The farmer who toils must be the first to partake of the fruits. Take in what I tell you, for the Lord will give you understanding in all things.

GradualGraduale

Ps 118:52-53

Memor fui judiciórum tuórum a sǽculo, Dómine, et consolátus sum: deféctio ténuit me pro peccatóribus derelinquéntibus legem tuam.

Ps 39:11

Ps 118:52-53

I remember your ordinances of old, O Lord, and I am comforted. Indignation seizes me because of the wicked who forsake Your law.

Ps 39:11

℣.Your justice I kept not hid within my heart; Your faithfulness and Your salvation I have spoken of. Alleluia, alleluia.

Ecclus. 49:3-4

He was directed by God to the repentance of the nation, and he took away the abominations of wickedness. He turned to God with his whole heart, and though times were evil, he practiced virtue.

GospelEvangelium

Sequéntia ☩ sancti Evangélii secúndum Lucam

Luc 10:1-9

Continuation ☩ of the Holy Gospel according to Luke

Luke 10:1-9

At that time, the Lord appointed seventy-two others, and sent them forth two by two before Him into every town and place where He Himself was about to come. And He said to them, The harvest indeed is great, but the laborers are few. Pray therefore the Lord of the harvest to send forth laborers into His harvest. Go. Behold, I send you forth as lambs in the midst of wolves. Carry neither purse, nor wallet, nor sandals, and greet no one on the way. Whatever house you enter, first say, ‘Peace to this house!’ And if a son of peace be there, your peace will rest upon him; but if not, it will return to you. And remain in the same house, eating and drinking what they have; for the laborer deserves his wages. Do not go from house to house. And whatever town you enter, and they receive you, eat what is set before you, and cure the sick who are there, and say to them, ‘The kingdom of God is at hand for you.’

Pr 3:9, 27

Honor the Lord with your wealth, and give Him the first fruits of all your produce. Do not withhold him from doing good who is able; if you are able, do good yourself also.

Common

It is truly meet and just, and profitable unto salvation, that we should at all times, and in all places, give thanks to Thee, O Holy Lord, Father Almighty, eternal God, through Christ, our Lord. Through whom the Angels praise Thy Majesty, the Dominions adore it, the Powers are in awe. Which the heavens and the hosts of heaven together with the blessed Seraphim joyfully do magnify. And do Thou command that it be permitted us to join with them in confessing Thee, while we say with lowly praise:
