First Reading2 Timothy 4:1-8

From the Second Letter of Paul to Timothy

1I command you therefore before Godand the Lord Jesus Christ, who will judge the livingand the dead at his appearing and his Kingdom:2preach the word;be urgent in season and out of season;reprove, rebuke, and exhort with all patience and teaching.3For the time will comewhen they will not listen to the sound doctrine, but having itching ears, will heap up for themselves teachers after their own lusts,4and will turn away their ears from the truth, and turn away to fables.5But you be sober in all things, suffer hardship, do the work of an evangelist, and fulfill your ministry.

6For I am already being offered, and the time of my departure has come.7I have fought the good fight.I have finished the course.I have kept the faith.8From now on, the crown of righteousness is stored up for me,which the Lord, the righteous judge, will give to me on that day;and not to me only, but also to all those who have loved his appearing.

Responsorial PsalmPsalm 71:8-9, 14-15ab, 16-17, 22

8My mouth shall be filled with your praise, with your honor all day long.9Don’t reject me in my old age.Don’t forsake me when my strength fails.

14But I will always hope, and will add to all of your praise.15My mouth will tell about your righteousness, and of your salvation all day, though I don’t know its full measure.

16I will come with the mighty acts of the Lord GOD.I will make mention of your righteousness, even of yours alone.17God, you have taught me from my youth.Until now, I have declared your wondrous works.

22I will also praise you with the harp for your faithfulness, my God.I sing praises to you with the lyre, Holy One of Israel.

GospelMark 12:38-44

From the Gospel according to Mark

38In his teaching he said to them,“Beware of the scribes, who like to walk in long robes, and to get greetings in the marketplaces,39and to get the best seats in the synagoguesand the best places at feasts,40those who devour widows’ houses, and for a pretense make long prayers. These will receive greater condemnation.”

41Jesus sat down opposite the treasuryand saw how the multitude cast money into the treasury. Many who were rich cast in much.42A poor widow came and she cast in two small brass coins, which equal a quadrans coin.43He called his disciples to himself and said to them,“Most certainly I tell you, this poor widow gave more than all thosewho are giving into the treasury,44for they all gave out of their abundance, but she, out of her poverty, gave all that she had to live on.”

Léctio libri Sapiéntiæ

Prov 31:10-31

Lesson from the book of Proverbs

Prov 31:10-31

When one finds a worthy wife, her value is far beyond pearls. Her husband, entrusting his heart to her, has an unfailing prize. She brings him good, and not evil, all the days of her life. She obtains wool and flax and makes cloth with skillful hands. Like merchant ships, she secures her provisions from afar. She rises while it is still night, and distributes food to her household. She picks out a field to purchase; out of her earnings she plants a vineyard. She is girt about with strength, and sturdy are her arms. She enjoys the success of her dealings; at night her lamp is undimmed. She puts her hands to the distaff, and her fingers ply the spindle. She reaches out her hands to the poor, and extends her arms to the needy. She fears not the snow for her household; all her charges are doubly clothed. She makes her own coverlets; fine linen and purple are her clothing. Her husband is prominent at the city gates as he sits with the elders of the land. She makes garments and sells them, and stocks the merchants with belts. She is clothed with strength and dignity, and she laughs at the days to come. She opens her mouth in wisdom, and on her tongue is kindly counsel. She watches the conduct of her household, and eats not her food in idleness. Her children rise up and praise her; her husband, too, extols her: Many are the women of proven worth, but you have excelled them all. Charm is deceptive and beauty fleeting; the woman who fears the Lord is to be praised. Give her a reward of her labors, and let her works praise her at the city gates.

GospelEvangelium

Sequéntia ☩ sancti Evangélii secúndum Matthǽum

Matt 13:44-52

Continuation ☩ of the Holy Gospel according to Matthew

Matt 13:44-52.

At that time, Jesus spoke this parable to His disciples: The kingdom of heaven is like a treasure hidden in a field; he who finds it hides it, and in his joy goes and sells all that he has and buys that field. Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant in search of fine pearls. When he finds a single pearl of great price, he goes and sells all that he has and buys it. Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a net cast into the sea that gathered in fish of every kind. When it was filled, they hauled it out, and sitting down on the beach, they gathered the good fish into vessels, but threw away the bad. So will it be at the end of the world. The angels will go out and separate the wicked from among the just, and will cast them into the furnace of fire, where there will be the weeping, and the gnashing of teeth. Have you understood all these things? They said to Him, Yes. And He said to them, So then, every Scribe instructed in the kingdom of heaven is like a householder who brings forth from his storeroom things new and old.

It is truly meet and just, and profitable unto salvation, that we should at all times, and in all places, give thanks to Thee, O Holy Lord, Father Almighty, eternal God, through Christ, our Lord. And do Thou command that it be permitted us to join with them in confessing Thee, while we say with lowly praise:
