First ReadingExodus 20:1-17

From the Book of Exodus

1God spoke all these words, saying,2“I am the Lord your God,who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.

3“You shall have no other gods before me.

4“You shall not make for yourselves an idol, nor any image of anything that is in the heavens above,or that is on the earth beneath,or that is in the water under the earth:5you shall not bow yourself down to them, nor serve them, for I,the Lord your God,am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children,on the thirdand on the fourth generation of those who hate me,6and showing loving kindness to thousands of thosewho love me and keep my commandments.

7“You shall not misuse the name of the Lord your God,for the Lord will not hold him guiltlesswho misuses his name.

8“Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.9You shall labor six days, and do all your work,10but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the Lord your God.You shall not do any work in it,you, nor your son,nor your daughter, your male servant, nor your female servant, nor your livestock, nor your stranger who is within your gates;11for in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested the seventh day;therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day, and made it holy.

12“Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long in the landwhich the Lord your God gives you.

13“You shall not murder.

14“You shall not commit adultery.

15“You shall not steal.

16“You shall not give false testimony against your neighbor.

17“You shall not covet your neighbor’s house. You shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, nor his male servant, nor his female servant, nor his ox, nor his donkey, nor anything that is your neighbor’s.”

Responsorial PsalmPsalm 19:8, 9, 10, 11

8The Lord’s law is perfect, restoring the soul. The Lord’s covenant is sure, making wise the simple.

9The Lord’s precepts are right, rejoicing the heart. The Lord’s commandment is pure, enlightening the eyes.

10The fear of the Lord is clean, enduring forever. The Lord’s ordinances are true, and righteous altogether.

11They are more to be desired than gold, yes, than much fine gold, sweeter also than honey and the extract of the honeycomb.

GospelMatthew 13:18-23

From the Gospel according to Matthew

18“Hear, then, the parable of the farmer.19When anyone hears the word of the Kingdomand doesn’t understand it,the evil one comes and snatches awaythat which has been sown in his heart. This is what was sown by the roadside.20What was sown on the rocky places, this is he who hears the wordand immediately with joy receives it;21yet he has no root in himself, but endures for a while. When oppression or persecution arises because of the word, immediately he stumbles.22What was sown among the thorns, this is he who hears the word, but the cares of this ageand the deceitfulness of riches choke the word, and he becomes unfruitful.23What was sown on the good ground, this is he who hears the word and understands it,who most certainly bears fruit and produces, some one hundred times as much, some sixty, and some thirty.”

Léctio Epístolæ beáti Pauli Apóstoli ad Corínthios

1 Cor 12:2-11

Lesson from the first letter of St. Paul the Apostle to the Corinthians

1 Cor. 12:2-11

Brethren: You know that when you were Gentiles, you went to dumb idols according as you were led. Wherefore I give you to understand that no one speaking in the Spirit of God, says Anathema to Jesus. And no one can say Jesus is Lord, except in the Holy Spirit. Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit; and there are varieties of ministries, but the same Lord; and there are varieties of workings, but the same God, Who works all things in all. Now the manifestation of the Spirit is given to everyone for profit. To one through the Spirit is given the utterance of wisdom; and to another the utterance of knowledge, according to the same Spirit; to another faith, in the same Spirit; to another the gift of healing, in the one Spirit; to another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another the distinguishing of spirits; to another various kinds of tongues; to another interpretation of tongues. But all these things are the work of one and the same Spirit, Who allots to everyone according as He will.

GospelEvangelium

Sequéntia ☩ sancti Evangélii secúndum Lucam

Luc 18:9-14

Jejúno bis in sábbato: décimas do ómnium, quæ possídeo.

Continuation ☩ of the Holy Gospel according to Luke

Luke 18:9-14

At that time, Jesus spoke this parable to some who trusted in themselves as being just and despised others. Two men went up to the temple to pray, the one a Pharisee and the other a publican. The Pharisee stood and began to pray thus within himself: ‘O God, I thank You that I am not like the rest of men, robbers, dishonest, adulterers, or even like this publican. I fast twice a week; I pay tithes of all that I possess.’ But the publican, standing afar off, would not so much as lift up his eyes to heaven, but kept striking his breast, saying, ‘O God, be merciful to me the sinner!’ I tell you, this man went back to his home justified rather than the other; for everyone who exalts himself shall be humbled, and he who humbles himself shall be exalted.

Ad te, Dómine, levávi ánimam meam: Deus meus, in te confído, non erubéscam: neque irrídeant me inimíci mei: étenim univérsi, qui te exspéctant, non confundéntur.

Ps 24:1-3

To You I lift up my soul, O Lord. In You, O my God, I trust; let me not be put to shame, let not my enemies exult over me. No one who waits for You shall be put to shame.

Common

It is truly meet and just, and profitable unto salvation, that we should at all times, and in all places, give thanks to Thee, O Holy Lord, Father Almighty, eternal God, through Christ, our Lord. Through whom the Angels praise Thy Majesty, the Dominions adore it, the Powers are in awe. Which the heavens and the hosts of heaven together with the blessed Seraphim joyfully do magnify. And do Thou command that it be permitted us to join with them in confessing Thee, while we say with lowly praise:
