First ReadingEzekiel 1:2-5, 24-28*

From the Book of Ezekiel

2In the fifth of the month, which was the fifth year of King Jehoiachin’s captivity,3the Lord’s word came to Ezekiel the priest, the son of Buzi, in the land of the Chaldeans by the river Chebar;and the Lord’s hand was there on him.

4I looked, and behold, a stormy wind came out of the north:a great cloud, with flashing lightning, and a brightness around it,and out of the middle of it as it were glowing metal, out of the middle of the fire.5Out of its center came the likeness of four living creatures. This was their appearance:They had the likeness of a man. verses 6–23 are not read24When they went, I heard the noise of their wings like the noise of great waters, like the voice of the Almighty,a noise of tumult like the noise of an army. When they stood, they let down their wings.

25There was a voice above the expansethat was over their heads. When they stood, they let down their wings.26Above the expansethat was over their heads was the likeness of a throne,as the appearance of a sapphire stone. On the likeness of the throne was a likeness as the appearance of a man on it above.27I saw as it were glowing metal,as the appearance of fire within it all around, from the appearance of his waist and upward;and from the appearance of his waistand downward I saw as it were the appearance of fire, and there was brightness around him.28As the appearance of the rainbowthat is in the cloud in the day of rain,so was the appearance of the brightness all around.

This was the appearance of the likeness of the Lord’s glory. When I saw it, I fell on my face, and I heard a voice of one that spoke.

Responsorial PsalmPsalm 148:1-2, 11-12, 13-14*

1Praise the Lord!Praise the Lord from the heavens!Praise him in the heights!2Praise him, all his angels!Praise him, all his army!

11kings of the earth and all peoples, princes and all judges of the earth,12both young men and maidens, old men and children.

13Let them praise the Lord’s name, for his name alone is exalted. His glory is above the earth and the heavens.14He has lifted up the horn of his people, the praise of all his saints, even of the children of Israel, a people near to him.Praise the Lord!

GospelMatthew 17:22-27

From the Gospel according to Matthew

22While they were staying in Galilee,Jesus said to them,“The Son of Man is about to be delivered up into the hands of men,23and they will kill him,and the third day he will be raised up.”

They were exceedingly sorry.

24When they had come to Capernaum, those who collected the didrachma coins came to Peter, and said, “Doesn’t your teacher pay the didrachma?”25He said, “Yes.”

When he came into the house,Jesus anticipated him, saying, “What do you think, Simon? From whom do the kings of the earth receive toll or tribute? From their children, or from strangers?”

26Peter said to him, “From strangers.”

Jesus said to him, “Therefore the children are exempt.27But, lest we cause them to stumble,go to the sea, cast a hook, and take up the first fish that comes up.When you have opened its mouth, you will find a stater coin.Take that, and give it to them for me and you.”

Léctio Epístolæ beáti Pauli Apóstoli ad Corínthios

1 Cor 12:2-11

Lesson from the first letter of St. Paul the Apostle to the Corinthians

1 Cor. 12:2-11

Brethren: You know that when you were Gentiles, you went to dumb idols according as you were led. Wherefore I give you to understand that no one speaking in the Spirit of God, says Anathema to Jesus. And no one can say Jesus is Lord, except in the Holy Spirit. Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit; and there are varieties of ministries, but the same Lord; and there are varieties of workings, but the same God, Who works all things in all. Now the manifestation of the Spirit is given to everyone for profit. To one through the Spirit is given the utterance of wisdom; and to another the utterance of knowledge, according to the same Spirit; to another faith, in the same Spirit; to another the gift of healing, in the one Spirit; to another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another the distinguishing of spirits; to another various kinds of tongues; to another interpretation of tongues. But all these things are the work of one and the same Spirit, Who allots to everyone according as He will.

GospelEvangelium

Sequéntia ☩ sancti Evangélii secúndum Lucam

Luc 18:9-14

Jejúno bis in sábbato: décimas do ómnium, quæ possídeo.

Continuation ☩ of the Holy Gospel according to Luke

Luke 18:9-14

At that time, Jesus spoke this parable to some who trusted in themselves as being just and despised others. Two men went up to the temple to pray, the one a Pharisee and the other a publican. The Pharisee stood and began to pray thus within himself: ‘O God, I thank You that I am not like the rest of men, robbers, dishonest, adulterers, or even like this publican. I fast twice a week; I pay tithes of all that I possess.’ But the publican, standing afar off, would not so much as lift up his eyes to heaven, but kept striking his breast, saying, ‘O God, be merciful to me the sinner!’ I tell you, this man went back to his home justified rather than the other; for everyone who exalts himself shall be humbled, and he who humbles himself shall be exalted.

Ps 24:1-3

To You I lift up my soul, O Lord. In You, O my God, I trust; let me not be put to shame, let not my enemies exult over me. No one who waits for You shall be put to shame.

Common

It is truly meet and just, and profitable unto salvation, that we should at all times, and in all places, give thanks to Thee, O Holy Lord, Father Almighty, eternal God, through Christ, our Lord. Through whom the Angels praise Thy Majesty, the Dominions adore it, the Powers are in awe. Which the heavens and the hosts of heaven together with the blessed Seraphim joyfully do magnify. And do Thou command that it be permitted us to join with them in confessing Thee, while we say with lowly praise:
