First Reading2 Corinthians 6:1-10

From the Second Letter of Paul to the Corinthians

1Working together, we entreat alsothat you do not receive the grace of God in vain.2For he says,

“At an acceptable time I listened to you.In a day of salvation I helped you.”

Behold, now is the acceptable time.Behold, now is the day of salvation.3We give no occasion of stumbling in anything, that our service may not be blamed,4but in everything commending ourselves as servants of God:in great endurance,in afflictions, in hardships, in distresses,5in beatings, in imprisonments,in riots, in labors,in watchings, in fastings,6in pureness, in knowledge,in perseverance, in kindness,in the Holy Spirit, in sincere love,7in the word of truth,in the power of God,by the armor of righteousness on the right hand and on the left,8by glory and dishonor,by evil report and good report,as deceivers and yet true,9as unknown and yet well known, as dying and behold—we live, as punished and not killed,10as sorrowful yet always rejoicing,as poor yet making many rich,as having nothing and yet possessing all things.

Responsorial PsalmPsalm 98:1, 2b, 3ab, 3cd-4

1Sing to the Lord a new song, for he has done marvelous things! His right hand and his holy arm have worked salvation for him.

2The Lord has made known his salvation. He has openly shown his righteousness in the sight of the nations.

3He has remembered his loving kindness and his faithfulness toward the house of Israel.

3All the ends of the earth have seen the salvation of our God.4Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth!Burst out and sing for joy, yes, sing praises!

GospelMatthew 5:38-42

From the Gospel according to Matthew

38“You have heard that it was said,‘An eye for an eye,and a tooth for a tooth.’39But I tell you, don’t resist him who is evil;but whoever strikes you on your right cheek, turn to him the other also.40If anyone sues you to take away your coat, let him have your cloak also.41Whoever compels you to go one mile, go with him two.42Give to him who asks you,and don’t turn away him who desires to borrow from you.

EpistleLectio

Léctio Epístolæ beáti Petri Apóstoli

1 Pet. 5:6-11

Caríssimi: Humiliámini sub poténti manu Dei, ut vos exáltet in témpore visitatiónis: omnem sollicitúdinem vestram projiciéntes in eum, quóniam ipsi cura est de vobis. Sóbrii estote et vigiláte: quia adversárius vester diábolus tamquam leo rúgiens circuit, quærens, quem dévoret: cui resístite fortes in fide: sciéntes eándem passiónem ei, quæ in mundo est, vestræ fraternitáti fíeri. Deus autem omnis grátiæ, qui vocávit nos in ætérnam suam glóriam in Christo Jesu, módicum passos ipse perfíciet, confirmábit solidabítque. Ipsi glória et impérium in sǽcula sæculórum. Amen.

Lesson from the first letter of St. Peter the Apostle

1 Pet. 5:6-11

Beloved: Humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in the time of visitation; cast all your anxiety upon Him, because He cares for you. Be sober, be watchful! For your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, goes about seeking someone to devour. Resist him, steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same suffering befalls your brethren all over the world. But the God of all grace, Who has called us unto His eternal glory in Christ Jesus, will Himself, after we have suffered a little while, perfect, strengthen and establish us. To Him is the glory and the dominion forever and ever. Amen.

Ps. 7:12

Deus judex justus, fortis et pátiens, numquid iráscitur per síngulos dies? Allelúja.

Ps. 54:23, 17, 19

Cast your care upon the Lord, and He will support you.

℣.When I called upon the Lord, He heard my voice from those who war against me. Alleluia, alleluia.

Ps 7:12

A just judge is God, strong and patient; is He angry every day? Alleluia.

GospelEvangelium

Sequéntia ☩ sancti Evangélii secúndum Lucam

Luc 15:1-10

Continuation ☩ of the Holy Gospel according to Luke

Luke 15:1-10

At that time, the publicans and sinners were drawing near to Him to listen to Him. And the Pharisees and the Scribes murmured, saying, This man welcomes sinners and eats with them. But He spoke to them this parable, saying, What man of you having a hundred sheep, and losing one of them, does not leave the ninety-nine in the desert, and go after that which is lost, until he finds it? And when he has found it, he lays it upon his shoulders rejoicing. And on coming home he calls together his friends and neighbors, saying to them, ‘Rejoice with me, because I have found my sheep that was lost.’ I say to you that, even so, there will be joy in heaven over one sinner who repents, more then over ninety-nine just who have no need of repentance. Or what woman, having ten drachmas, if she loses one drachma, does not light a lamp and sweep the house and search carefully until she finds it? And when she has found it, she calls together her friends and neighbors, saying, ‘Rejoice with me, for I have found the drachma that I had lost.’ Even so, I say to you, there will be joy among the angels of God over one sinner who repents.

It is truly meet and just, and profitable unto salvation, that we should at all times, and in all places, give thanks to Thee, O Holy Lord, Father Almighty, eternal God, through Christ, our Lord. Through whom the Angels praise Thy Majesty, the Dominions adore it, the Powers are in awe. Which the heavens and the hosts of heaven together with the blessed Seraphim joyfully do magnify. And do Thou command that it be permitted us to join with them in confessing Thee, while we say with lowly praise:
