First ReadingIsaiah 29:17-24

From the Book of Isaiah

17Isn’t it yet a very little while, and Lebanon will be turned into a fruitful field, and the fruitful field will be regarded as a forest?18In that day, the deaf will hear the words of the book, and the eyes of the blind will see out of obscurityand out of darkness.19The humble also will increase their joy in the Lord, and the poor among men will rejoice in the Holy One of Israel.20For the ruthless is brought to nothing, and the scoffer ceases, and all those who are alert to do evil are cut off—21who cause a person to be indicted by a word, and lay a snare for one who reproves in the gate, and who deprive the innocent of justice with false testimony.

22Therefore the Lord, who redeemed Abraham, says concerning the house of Jacob:“Jacob shall no longer be ashamed, neither shall his face grow pale.23But when he sees his children, the work of my hands,in the middle of him, they will sanctify my name.Yes, they will sanctify the Holy One of Jacob, and will stand in awe of the God of Israel.24They also who err in spirit will come to understanding, and those who grumble will receive instruction.”

Responsorial PsalmPsalm 27:1, 4, 13-14

1The Lord is my light and my salvation.Whom shall I fear? The Lord is the strength of my life.Of whom shall I be afraid?

4One thing I have asked of the Lord, that I will seek after:that I may dwell in the Lord’s house all the days of my life,to see the Lord’s beauty, and to inquire in his temple.

13I am still confident of this:I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.14Wait for the Lord.Be strong, and let your heart take courage.Yes, wait for the Lord.

GospelMatthew 9:27-31

From the Gospel according to Matthew

27As Jesus passed by from there, two blind men followed him, calling out and saying,“Have mercy on us, son of David!”28When he had come into the house, the blind men came to him.Jesus said to them,“Do you believe that I am able to do this?”

They told him, “Yes, Lord.”

29Then he touched their eyes, saying, “According to your faith be it done to you.”30Then their eyes were opened.Jesus strictly commanded them, saying, “See that no one knows about this.”31But they went outand spread abroad his fame in all that land.

EpistleLectio

Léctio Epístolæ beáti Pauli Apóstoli ad Timótheum

2 Tim 4:1-8

Lesson from the second letter of St Paul the Apostle to Timothy

2 Tim 4:1-8

Dearly beloved: I charge thee, before God and Jesus Christ, who shall judge the living and the dead, by his coming, and his kingdom: Preach the word: be instant in season, out of season: reprove, entreat, rebuke in all patience and doctrine. For there shall be a time, when they will not endure sound doctrine; but, according to their own desires, they will heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears: And will indeed turn away their hearing from the truth, but will be turned unto fables. But be thou vigilant, labour in all things, do the work of an evangelist, fulfil thy ministry. Be sober. For I am even now ready to be sacrificed: and the time of my dissolution is at hand. I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith. As to the rest, there is laid up for me a crown of justice, which the Lord the just judge will render to me in that day: and not only to me, but to them also that love his coming.

GospelEvangelium

Sequéntia ☩ sancti Evangélii secúndum Matthǽum

Matt 5:13-19

In illo témpore: Dixit Jesus discípulis suis: Vos estis sal terræ.

Continuation ☩ of the Holy Gospel according to Matthew

Matt 5:13-19

In that time Jesus said to His disciples: You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt lose its savour, wherewith shall it be salted? It is good for nothing any more but to be cast out, and to be trodden on by men. You are the light of the world. A city seated on a mountain cannot be hid. Neither do men light a candle and put it under a bushel, but upon a candlestick, that it may shine to all that are in the house. So let your light shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven. Do not think that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets. I am not come to destroy, but to fulfill. For amen I say unto you, till heaven and earth pass, one jot, or one tittle shall not pass of the law, till all be fulfilled. He therefore that shall break one of these least commandments, and shall so teach men, shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven. But he that shall do and teach, he shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.

Common

It is truly meet and just, and profitable unto salvation, that we should at all times, and in all places, give thanks to Thee, O Holy Lord, Father Almighty, eternal God, through Christ, our Lord. Through whom the Angels praise Thy Majesty, the Dominions adore it, the Powers are in awe. Which the heavens and the hosts of heaven together with the blessed Seraphim joyfully do magnify. And do Thou command that it be permitted us to join with them in confessing Thee, while we say with lowly praise:
