First ReadingDeuteronomy 7:6-11

From the Book of Deuteronomy

6For you are a holy people to the Lord your God.The Lord your God has chosen you to be a people for his own possession, above all peoples who are on the face of the earth.7The Lord didn’t set his love on you nor choose you, because you were more in number than any people;for you were the fewest of all peoples;8but because the Lord loves you,and because he desires to keep the oathwhich he swore to your fathers, the Lord has brought you out with a mighty handand redeemed you out of the house of bondage, from the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt.9Know therefore that the Lord your God himself is God,the faithful God, who keeps covenantand loving kindness to a thousand generations with thosewho love him and keep his commandments,10and repays thosewho hate him to their face, to destroy them.He will not be slack to him who hates him.He will repay him to his face.11You shall therefore keep the commandments, the statutes, and the ordinanceswhich I command you today, to do them.

Responsorial PsalmPsalm 103:1-2, 3-4, 6-7, 8, 10

1Praise the Lord, my soul! All that is within me, praise his holy name!2Praise the Lord, my soul, and don’t forget all his benefits,

3who forgives all your sins, who heals all your diseases,4who redeems your life from destruction, who crowns you with loving kindness and tender mercies,

6The Lord executes righteous acts, and justice for all who are oppressed.7He made known his ways to Moses, his deeds to the children of Israel.

8The Lord is merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abundant in loving kindness.

10He has not dealt with us according to our sins, nor repaid us for our iniquities.

Second Reading1 John 4:7-16

From the First Letter of John

7Beloved, let’s love one another, for love is of God;and everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God.8He who doesn’t love doesn’t know God, for God is love.9By this God’s love was revealed in us,that God has sent his only born Son into the worldthat we might live through him.10In this is love, not that we loved God,but that he loved us,and sent his Son as the atoning sacrifice for our sins.11Beloved, if God loved us in this way,we also ought to love one another.12No one has seen God at any time.If we love one another,God remains in us,and his love has been perfected in us.

13By this we know that we remain in him and he in us,because he has given us of his Spirit.14We have seen and testifythat the Father has sent the Son as the Savior of the world.15Whoever confesses that Jesus is the Son of God,God remains in him, and he in God.16We know and have believed the love which God has for us.God is love, and he who remains in love remains in God,and God remains in him.

GospelMatthew 11:25-30

From the Gospel according to Matthew

25At that time, Jesus answered,“I thank you, Father,Lord of heaven and earth, that you hid these things from the wise and understanding, and revealed them to infants.26Yes, Father, for so it was well-pleasing in your sight.27All things have been delivered to me by my Father. No one knows the Son, except the Father;neither does anyone know the Father, except the Son and he towhom the Son desires to reveal him.

28“Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest.29Take my yoke upon you and learn from me,for I am gentle and humble in heart;and you will find rest for your souls.30For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”
