First Reading1 Thessalonians 2:1-8

From the First Letter of Paul to the Thessalonians

1For you yourselves know, brothers, our visit to you wasn’t in vain,2but having suffered before and been shamefully treated,as you know, at Philippi,we grew bold in our God to tell you the Good News of God in much conflict.3For our exhortation is not of error, nor of uncleanness, nor in deception.4But even as we have been approved by God to be entrusted with the Good News, so we speak—not as pleasing men, but God, who tests our hearts.5For neither were we at any time found using words of flattery,as you know, nor a cloak of covetousness (God is witness),6nor seeking glory from men (neither from you nor from others),when we might have claimed authority as apostles of Christ.7But we were gentle among you, like a nursing mother cherishes her own children.

8Even so, affectionately longing for you,we were well pleased to impart to you not the Good News of God only, but also our own souls, because you had become very dear to us.

Responsorial PsalmPsalm 139:1-3, 4-6

1Lord, you have searched me,and you know me.2You know my sitting down and my rising up.You perceive my thoughts from afar.3You search out my path and my lying down, and are acquainted with all my ways.

4For there is not a word on my tongue, but behold, Lord, you know it altogether.5You hem me in behind and before. You laid your hand on me.6This knowledge is beyond me.It’s lofty.I can’t attain it.

GospelMatthew 23:23-26

From the Gospel according to Matthew

23“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you tithe mint, dill, and cumin, and have left undone the weightier matters of the law:justice, mercy, and faith. But you ought to have done these, and not to have left the other undone.24You blind guides, who strain out a gnat, and swallow a camel!

25“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you clean the outside of the cup and of the platter, but within they are full of extortion and unrighteousness.26You blind Pharisee, first clean the inside of the cup and of the platter, that its outside may become clean also.

EpistleLectio

Léctio Epístolæ beáti Pauli Apóstoli ad Corínthios

1 Cor 4:9-14

Lesson from the first letter of St Paul the Apostle to the Corinthians

1 Cor. 4:9-14

Brethren: We have been made a spectacle to the world, and to angels, and to men. We are fools for Christ, but you are wise in Christ! We are weak, but you are strong! You are honored, but we are without honor! To this very hour we hunger and thirst, and we are naked and buffeted, and have no fixed abode. And we toil, working with our own hands. We are reviled and we bless, we are persecuted and we bear with it, we are maligned and we entreat, we have become as the refuse of this world, the offscouring of all, even until now! I write these things not to put you to shame, but to admonish you as my dearest children, in Christ Jesus our Lord.

GospelEvangelium

Sequéntia ☩ sancti Evangélii secúndum Lucam

Luc 12:32-34

In illo témpore: Dixit Jesus discípulis suis: Nolíte timére, pusíllus grex, quia complácuit Patri vestro dare vobis regnum.

Continuation ☩ of the Holy Gospel according to Luke

Luke 12:32-34

At that time, Jesus said to His disciples, Do not be afraid, little flock, for it has pleased your Father to give you the kingdom. Sell what you have and give alms. Make for yourselves purses that do not grow old, a treasure unfailing in heaven, where neither thief draws near nor moth destroys. For where your treasure is, there also will your heart be.

Common

It is truly meet and just, and profitable unto salvation, that we should at all times, and in all places, give thanks to Thee, O Holy Lord, Father Almighty, eternal God, through Christ, our Lord. Through whom the Angels praise Thy Majesty, the Dominions adore it, the Powers are in awe. Which the heavens and the hosts of heaven together with the blessed Seraphim joyfully do magnify. And do Thou command that it be permitted us to join with them in confessing Thee, while we say with lowly praise:
