First ReadingEzekiel 43:1-7ab

From the Book of Ezekiel

1Afterward he brought me to the gate, even the gate that looks toward the east.2Behold, the glory of the God of Israel came from the way of the east. His voice was like the sound of many waters;and the earth was illuminated with his glory.3It was like the appearance of the vision which I saw, even according to the vision that I sawwhen I came to destroy the city;and the visions were like the visionthat I saw by the river Chebar;and I fell on my face.4The Lord’s glory came into the house by the way of the gatewhich faces toward the east.5The Spirit took me up and brought me into the inner court;and behold, the Lord’s glory filled the house.

6I heard one speaking to me out of the house,and a man stood by me.7He said to me, “Son of man,this is the place of my throneand the place of the soles of my feet,where I will dwell among the children of Israel forever.The house of Israel will no more defile my holy name,neither they nor their kings,by their prostitutionand by the dead bodies of their kings in their high places;

Responsorial PsalmPsalm 85:9ab, 10, 11-12, 13-14

9I will hear what God, the Lord, will speak, for he will speak peace to his people, his saints;but let them not turn again to folly.

10Surely his salvation is near those who fear him, that glory may dwell in our land.

11Mercy and truth meet together.Righteousness and peace have kissed each other.12Truth springs out of the earth.Righteousness has looked down from heaven.

13Yes, the Lord will give that which is good. Our land will yield its increase.14Righteousness goes before him,and prepares the way for his steps.

GospelMatthew 23:1-12

From the Gospel according to Matthew

1Then Jesus spoke to the multitudes and to his disciples,2saying, “The scribes and the Pharisees sit on Moses’ seat.3All things therefore whatever they tell you to observe, observe and do, but don’t do their works;for they say, and don’t do.4For they bind heavy burdens that are grievous to be borne, and lay them on men’s shoulders;but they themselves will not lift a finger to help them.5But they do all their works to be seen by men. They make their phylacteries broadand enlarge the fringes of their garments,6and love the place of honor at feasts, the best seats in the synagogues,7the salutations in the marketplaces, and to be called ‘Rabbi, Rabbi’ by men.8But you are not to be called ‘Rabbi’,for one is your teacher, the Christ, and all of you are brothers.9Call no man on the earth your father, for one is your Father,he who is in heaven.10Neither be called masters, for one is your master, the Christ.11But he who is greatest among you will be your servant.12Whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted.

Léctio Epístolæ beáti Pauli Apóstoli ad Corínthios

1 Cor 4:9-14

Lesson from the first letter of St Paul the Apostle to the Corinthians

1 Cor. 4:9-14

Brethren: We have been made a spectacle to the world, and to angels, and to men. We are fools for Christ, but you are wise in Christ! We are weak, but you are strong! You are honored, but we are without honor! To this very hour we hunger and thirst, and we are naked and buffeted, and have no fixed abode. And we toil, working with our own hands. We are reviled and we bless, we are persecuted and we bear with it, we are maligned and we entreat, we have become as the refuse of this world, the offscouring of all, even until now! I write these things not to put you to shame, but to admonish you as my dearest children, in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Happy the man who fears the Lord, who greatly delights in His commands. Alleluia.

GospelEvangelium

Sequéntia ☩ sancti Evangélii secúndum Lucam

Luc 12:32-34

In illo témpore: Dixit Jesus discípulis suis: Nolíte timére, pusíllus grex, quia complácuit Patri vestro dare vobis regnum.

Continuation ☩ of the Holy Gospel according to Luke

Luke 12:32-34

At that time, Jesus said to His disciples, Do not be afraid, little flock, for it has pleased your Father to give you the kingdom. Sell what you have and give alms. Make for yourselves purses that do not grow old, a treasure unfailing in heaven, where neither thief draws near nor moth destroys. For where your treasure is, there also will your heart be.

Common

It is truly meet and just, and profitable unto salvation, that we should at all times, and in all places, give thanks to Thee, O Holy Lord, Father Almighty, eternal God, through Christ, our Lord. Through whom the Angels praise Thy Majesty, the Dominions adore it, the Powers are in awe. Which the heavens and the hosts of heaven together with the blessed Seraphim joyfully do magnify. And do Thou command that it be permitted us to join with them in confessing Thee, while we say with lowly praise:
