First ReadingEphesians 3:2-12

From the Letter of Paul to the Ephesians

2if it is so that you have heard of the administration ofthat grace of God which was given me toward you,3how that by revelation the mystery was made known to me,as I wrote before in few words,4by which, when you read, you can perceive my understanding in the mystery of Christ,5which in other generations was not made known to the children of men,as it has now been revealed to his holy apostlesand prophets in the Spirit,6that the Gentiles are fellow heirsand fellow members of the body, and fellow partakers of his promise in Christ Jesus through the Good News,7of which I was made a servant according to the gift of that grace of Godwhich was given me according to the working of his power.8To me, the very least of all saints, was this grace given,to preach to the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ,9and to make all men see what is the administration of the mysterywhich for ages has been hidden in God,who created all things through Jesus Christ,10to the intentthat now through the assembly the manifold wisdom of God might be made known to the principalitiesand the powers in the heavenly places,11according to the eternal purposewhich he accomplished in Christ Jesus our Lord.12In him we have boldnessand access in confidence through our faith in him.

Responsorial PsalmIsaiah 12:2-3, 4bcd, 5-6

From the Book of Isaiah

2Behold, God is my salvation.I will trust, and will not be afraid;for the Lord, the Lord, is my strength and song;and he has become my salvation.”3Therefore with joy you will draw water out of the wells of salvation.

4In that day you will say, “Give thanks to the Lord!Call on his name!Declare his doings among the peoples!Proclaim that his name is exalted!

5Sing to the Lord, for he has done excellent things!Let this be known in all the earth!6Cry aloud and shout, you inhabitant of Zion, for the Holy One of Israel is great among you!”

GospelLuke 12:39-48

From the Gospel according to Luke

39But know this, that if the master of the house had known in what hour the thief was coming,he would have watchedand not allowed his house to be broken into.40Therefore be ready also, for the Son of Man is coming in an hourthat you don’t expect him.”

41Peter said to him,“Lord, are you telling this parable to us, or to everybody?”

42The Lord said, “Who then is the faithful and wise steward, whom his lord will set over his household,to give them their portion of food at the right times?43Blessed is that servantwhom his lord will find doing so when he comes.44Truly I tell youthat he will set him over all that he has.45But if that servant says in his heart,‘My lord delays his coming,’and begins to beat the menservants and the maidservants, and to eat and drink and to be drunken,46then the lord of that servant will come in a daywhen he isn’t expecting himand in an hour that he doesn’t know, and will cut him in two,and place his portion with the unfaithful.47That servant who knew his lord’s will, and didn’t prepare nor do what he wanted, will be beaten with many stripes,48but he who didn’t know, and did things worthy of stripes, will be beaten with few stripes. To whomever much is given, of him will much be required;and to whom much was entrusted, of him more will be asked.

Lectio Epistolæ beáti Pauli Apóstoli ad Ephésios

Ephes 6:10-17

Lesson from the letter of St. Paul the Apostle to the Ephesians

Eph 6:10-17

Brethren: Be strengthened in the Lord and in the might of His power. Put on the armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For our wrestling is not against flesh and blood, but against the Principalities and the Powers, against the world rulers of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness on high. Therefore, take up the armor of God, that you may be able to resist in the evil day, and stand in all things perfect. Stand, therefore, having girded your loins with truth, and having put on the breast-plate of justice, and having your feet shod with the readiness of the Gospel of peace, in all things taking up the shield of faith, with which you may be able to quench all the fiery darts of the most wicked one. And take unto you the helmet of salvation and the sword of the spirit, that is, the word of God.

Sequéntia ☩ sancti Evangélii secúndum Matthǽum

Matt 18:23-35

Continuation ☩ of the Holy Gospel according to Matthew

Matt 18:23-35

At that time, Jesus spoke to His disciples this parable: The kingdom of heaven is likened to a king who desired to settle accounts with his servants. And when he had begun the settlement, one was brought to him who owed him ten thousand talents. And as he had no means of paying, his master ordered him to be sold, with his wife and children and all that he had, and payment to be made. But the servant fell down and besought him, saying, ‘Have patience with me and I will pay you all!’ And moved with compassion, the master of that servant released him, and forgave him the debt. But as that servant went out, he met one of his fellow-servants who owed him a hundred denarii and he laid hold of him, and throttled him, saying, ‘Pay what you owe.’ His fellow-servant therefore fell down and began to entreat him, saying, ‘Have patience with me and I will pay you all.’ But he would not; but went away and cast him into prison until he should pay what was due. His fellow-servants therefore, seeing what had happened, were very much saddened, and they went and informed their master of what had taken place. Then his master called him, and said to him, ‘Wicked servant! I forgave you all the debt, because you entreated me. Should not you also have had pity on your fellow-servant, even as I had pity on you?’ And his master, being angry, handed him over to the torturers until he should pay all that was due to him. So also My heavenly Father will do to you, if you do not each forgive your brothers from your hearts.

Job 1.1

Job 1.1

There was a man in the land of Hus, whose name was Job, simple, and upright, and fearing God, whom Satan besought that he might tempt: and power was given him from the Lord over his possessions and his flesh; and he destroyed all his substance and his children, and wounded his flesh also with a grievous ulcer.

It is truly meet and just, and profitable unto salvation, that we should at all times, and in all places, give thanks to Thee, O Holy Lord, Father Almighty, eternal God, through Christ, our Lord. Through whom the Angels praise Thy Majesty, the Dominions adore it, the Powers are in awe. Which the heavens and the hosts of heaven together with the blessed Seraphim joyfully do magnify. And do Thou command that it be permitted us to join with them in confessing Thee, while we say with lowly praise:
