First ReadingIsaiah 56:1-3, 6-8*

From the Book of Isaiah

1The Lord says:

“Maintain justiceand do what is right, for my salvation is nearand my righteousness will soon be revealed.2Blessed is the man who does this, and the son of man who holds it fast;who keeps the Sabbath without profaning itand keeps his hand from doing any evil.”3Let no foreigner who has joined himself to the Lord speak, saying,“The Lord will surely separate me from his people.”Do not let the eunuch say, “Behold, I am a dry tree.” verses 4–5 are not read6Also the foreigners who join themselves to the Lordto serve him,and to love the Lord’s name,to be his servants, everyone who keeps the Sabbath from profaning it,and holds fast my covenant,7I will bring these to my holy mountain, and make them joyful in my house of prayer.Their burnt offerings and their sacrifices will be accepted on my altar;for my house will be called a house of prayer for all peoples.”8The Lord GOD, who gathers the outcasts of Israel, says,“I will yet gather others to him,in addition to his own who are gathered.”

Responsorial PsalmPsalm 67:2-3, 5, 7-8*

2May God be merciful to us, bless us,and cause his face to shine on us.3That your way may be known on earth, and your salvation among all nations,

5Oh let the nations be glad and sing for joy,for you will judge the peoples with equity, and govern the nations on earth.

7The earth has yielded its increase.God, even our own God, will bless us.8God will bless us.All the ends of the earth shall fear him.

GospelJohn 5:33-36*

From the Gospel according to John

33You have sent to John, and he has testified to the truth.34But the testimony which I receive is not from man. However, I say these things that you may be saved.35He was the burning and shining lamp, and you were willing to rejoice for a while in his light.36But the testimonywhich I have is greater than that of John;for the works which the Father gave me to accomplish, the very works that I do,testify about me, that the Father has sent me.

Léctio Isaíæ Prophétæ

Is 11:1-5

Lesson from the book of Isaias

Isa 11:1-5

Thus says the Lord God: A shoot shall sprout from the stump of Jesse, and from his roots a bud shall blossom. The spirit of the Lord shall rest upon Him: a spirit of wisdom and of understanding, a spirit of knowledge and of piety, and His delight shall be the fear of the Lord. Not by appearance shall He judge, nor by hearsay shall He decide, but He shall judge the poor with justice, and decide aright for the land’s afflicted. He shall strike the ruthless with the rod of His mouth, and with the breath of His lips He shall slay the wicked. Justice shall be the band around His waist, and faithfulness a belt upon His hips.

Ps 84:8, 2

Show us, O Lord, Your kindness, and grant us Your salvation.

℣.You have favored, O Lord, Your land; You have restored the well-being of Jacob.

GospelEvangelium

Sequéntia ☩ sancti Evangélii secúndum Lucam

Luc 1:39-47

Continuation ☩ of the Holy Gospel according to Luke

Luke 1:39-47

At that time, Mary arose and went with haste into the hill country, to a town of Juda. And she entered the house of Zachary and saluted Elizabeth. And it came to pass, when Elizabeth heard the greeting of Mary, that the babe in her womb leapt. And Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit, and cried out with a loud voice, saying, Blessed are you among women and blessed is the fruit of your womb! And how have I deserved that the Mother of my Lord should come to me? For behold, the moment that the sound of your greeting came to my ears, the babe in my womb leapt for joy. And blessed is she who has believed, because the things promised her by the Lord shall be accomplished. And Mary said, My soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit rejoices in God my Saviour.

It is truly meet and just, and profitable unto salvation, that we should at all times, and in all places, give thanks to Thee, O Holy Lord, Father Almighty, eternal God, through Christ, our Lord. Through whom the Angels praise Thy Majesty, the Dominions adore it, the Powers are in awe. Which the heavens and the hosts of heaven together with the blessed Seraphim joyfully do magnify. And do Thou command that it be permitted us to join with them in confessing Thee, while we say with lowly praise:
