First ReadingActs 1:15-17, 20-26

From the Acts of the Apostles

15In these days, Peter stood up in the middle of the disciples (and the number of names was about one hundred twenty), and said,16“Brothers, it was necessarythat this Scripture should be fulfilled,which the Holy Spirit spoke before by the mouth of David concerning Judas,who was guide to those who took Jesus.17For he was counted with us,and received his portion in this ministry. verses 18–19 are not read20For it is written in the book of Psalms,

‘Let his habitation be made desolate.Let no one dwell in it;’

and,

‘Let another take his office.’

21“Of the men therefore who have accompanied us all the timethat the Lord Jesus went in and out among us,22beginning from the baptism of John to the daythat he was received up from us,of these one must become a witness with us of his resurrection.”

23They put forward two:Joseph called Barsabbas,who was also called Justus, and Matthias.24They prayed and said,“You, Lord, who know the hearts of all men,show which one of these two you have chosen25to take part in this ministryand apostleship from which Judas fell away,that he might go to his own place.”26They drew lots for them, and the lot fell on Matthias;and he was counted with the eleven apostles.

Responsorial PsalmPsalm 113:1-2, 3-4, 5-6, 7-8

1Praise the Lord!Praise, you servants of the Lord,praise the Lord’s name.2Blessed be the Lord’s name,from this time forward and forever more.

3From the rising of the sun to its going down,the Lord’s name is to be praised.4The Lord is high above all nations,his glory above the heavens.

5Who is like the Lord, our God,who has his seat on high,6who stoops down to see in heaven and on the earth?

7He raises up the poor out of the dust,and lifts up the needy from the ash heap,8that he may set him with princes,even with the princes of his people.

GospelJohn 15:9-17

From the Gospel according to John

9Even as the Father has loved me, I also have loved you.Remain in my love.10If you keep my commandments,you will remain in my love,even as I have kept my Father’s commandmentsand remain in his love.11I have spoken these things to you,that my joy may remain in you,and that your joy may be made full.

12“This is my commandment,that you love one another,even as I have loved you.13Greater love has no one than this,that someone lay down his life for his friends.14You are my friends if you do whatever I command you.15No longer do I call you servants,for the servant doesn’t know what his lord does.But I have called you friends,for everything that I heard from my Father,I have made known to you.16You didn’t choose me,but I chose you and appointed you,that you should go and bear fruit,and that your fruit should remain;that whatever you will ask of the Father in my name,he may give it to you.

17“I command these things to you,that you may love one another.

Léctio Actuum Apostolórum

Acts 10:34; 10:42-48

Lesson from the Acts of the Apostles

Acts 10:34, 42-48

In those days, Peter opening his mouth, said, Men, brethren, the Lord charged us to preach to the people and to testify that He it is Who has been appointed by God to be judge of the living and of the dead. To Him all the prophets bear witness, that through His Name all who believe in Him may receive forgiveness of sins. While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit came upon all who were listening to his message. And the faithful of the circumcision, who had come with Peter, were amazed, because on the Gentiles also the grace of the Holy Spirit had been poured forth; for they heard them speaking in tongues and magnifying God. Then Peter answered, Can anyone refuse the water to baptize these, seeing that they have received the Holy Spirit just as we did? And he ordered them to be baptized in the Name of Jesus Christ.

Holy Spirit! Lord of light!

From Thy clear celestial height, Thy pure, beaming radiance give:

Come, Thou, Father of the poor!

Come, with treasures which endure!

Come, Thou light of all that live!

Thou of all consolers best,

Visiting the troubled breast,

Dost refreshing peace bestow:

Thou in toil art comfort sweet;

Pleasant coolness in the heat;

Solace in the midst of woe.

Light immortal! Light divine!

Visit Thou these hearts of Thine, And our inmost being fill.

If Thou take Thy grace away,

Nothing pure in man will stay;

All his good is turn’d to ill.

Heal our wounds - our strength renew;

On our dryness pour Thy dew;

Wash the stains of guilt away:

Bend the stubborn heart and will;

Melt the frozen, warm the chill;

Guide the steps that go astray.

Thou, on those who evermore

Thee confess and Thee adore,

In Thy sevenfold gifts descend.

Give them comfort when they die;

Give them life with Thee on high;

Give them joys which never end.

Amen. Alleluia.

GospelEvangelium

Sequéntia ☩ sancti Evangélii secúndum Joánnem

Joannes 3:16-21

Continuation ☩ of the Holy Gospel according to John

John 3:16-21

At that time, Jesus said to Nicodemus: God so loved the world that He gave His only-begotten Son, that those who believe in Him may not perish, but may have life everlasting. For God did not send His Son into the world in order to judge the world, but that the world might be saved through Him. He who believes in Him is not judged; but he who does not believe in Him is already judged, because he does not believe in the Name of the only-begotten Son of God. Now this is the judgment: The light has come into the world, yet men have loved the darkness rather than the light, for their works were evil. For everyone who does evil hates the light, and does not come to the light, that his deeds may not be exposed. But he who does the truth comes to the light that his deeds may be made manifest, for they have been performed in God.

Who ascending above all in the heavens and sitting at Thy Right Hand, poured out the Holy Spirit upon the children of adoption. Wherefore the whole world doth rejoice with overflowing joy; and the heavenly Hosts also and the angelic Powers sing together the hymn of Thy glory, evermore saying:
