First Reading1 Corinthians 11:17-26, 33

From the First Letter of Paul to the Corinthians

17But in giving you this command I don’t praise you, because you come together not for the better but for the worse.18For first of all, when you come together in the assembly,I hear that divisions exist among you,and I partly believe it.19For there also must be factions among you, that those who are approved may be revealed among you.20When therefore you assemble yourselves together,it is not the Lord’s supper that you eat.21For in your eating each one takes his own supper first. One is hungry, and another is drunken.22What, don’t you have houses to eat and to drink in?Or do you despise God’s assemblyand put them to shame who don’t have enough? What shall I tell you?Shall I praise you?In this I don’t praise you.

23For I received from the Lord thatwhich also I delivered to you, that the Lord Jesus on the night inwhich he was betrayed took bread.24When he had given thanks,he broke it and said, “Take, eat. This is my body, which is broken for you.Do this in memory of me.”25In the same way he also took the cup after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood.Do this, as often as you drink, in memory of me.”26For as often as you eat this bread and drink this cup,you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes. verses 27–32 are not read33Therefore, my brothers, when you come together to eat, wait for one another.

Responsorial PsalmPsalm 40:7-8, 9, 10, 17*

7Sacrifice and offering you didn’t desire. You have opened my ears. You have not required burnt offering and sin offering.8Then I said, “Behold, I have come.It is written about me in the book in the scroll.

9I delight to do your will, my God.Yes, your law is within my heart.”

10I have proclaimed glad news of righteousness in the great assembly.Behold, I will not seal my lips, Lord, you know.

17Let all those who seek you rejoice and be glad in you.Let such as love your salvation say continually, “Let the Lord be exalted!”

GospelLuke 7:1-10

From the Gospel according to Luke

1After he had finished speaking in the hearing of the people,he entered into Capernaum.2A certain centurion’s servant, who was dear to him,was sick and at the point of death.3When he heard about Jesus,he sent to him elders of the Jews, asking him to come and save his servant.4When they came to Jesus, they begged him earnestly, saying, “He is worthy for you to do this for him,5for he loves our nation, and he built our synagogue for us.”6Jesus went with them. When he was now not far from the house, the centurion sent friends to him, saying to him, “Lord, don’t trouble yourself, for I am not worthy for you to come under my roof.7Therefore I didn’t even think myself worthy to come to you;but say the word, and my servant will be healed.8For I also am a man placed under authority, having under myself soldiers.I tell this one, ‘Go!’and he goes;and to another, ‘Come!’and he comes;and to my servant, ‘Do this,’ and he does it.”

9When Jesus heard these things,he marveled at him,and turned and said to the multitude who followed him,“I tell you, I have not found such great faith,no, not in Israel.”10Those who were sent, returning to the house, found that the servant who had been sick was well.

EpistleLectio

Léctio Epístolæ beáti Pauli Apóstoli ad Gálatas.

Gal 5:25-26; 6:1-10

Lesson from the letter of St. Paul the Apostle to the Galatians

Gal 5:25-26; 6:1-10

Brethren: If we live by the Spirit, by the Spirit let us also walk. Let us not become desirous of vainglory, provoking one another, envying one another. Brethren, even if a person is caught doing something wrong, you who are spiritual instruct such a one in a spirit of meekness, considering yourself, lest you also be tempted. Bear one another’s burdens, and so you will fulfill the law of Christ. For if anyone thinks himself to be something, whereas he is nothing, he deceives himself. But let everyone test his own work, and so he will have glory in himself only, and not in comparison with another. For each one will bear his own burden. And let him who is instructed in the word share all good things with his teacher. Be not deceived, God is not mocked. For what a man sows in the flesh, from the flesh also will reap corruption. But he who sows in the spirit, from the spirit will reap life everlasting. And in doing good let us not grow tired; for in due time we shall reap if we do not relax. Therefore, while we have time, let us do good to all men, but especially to those who are of the household of faith.

Sequéntia ☩ sancti Evangélii secúndum Lucam

Luc 7:11-16

Continuation of the Holy Gospel according to Luke

Luke 7:11-16

At that time, Jesus went into a city called Naim; and His disciples and a large crowd went with Him. And as He drew near the gate of the town, behold, a dead man was being carried out, the only son of his mother, and she was a widow; and a large gathering from the town was with her. And the Lord, seeing her, had compassion on her, and said to her, Do not weep. And He went up and touched the stretcher; and the bearers stood still. And He said, Young man, I say to you, arise. And he who was dead, sat up, and began to speak. And He gave him to his mother. But fear seized upon all, and they began to glorify God, saying, A great prophet has risen among us, and God has visited His people.

It is truly meet and just, and profitable unto salvation, that we should at all times, and in all places, give thanks to Thee, O Holy Lord, Father Almighty, eternal God, through Christ, our Lord. Through whom the Angels praise Thy Majesty, the Dominions adore it, the Powers are in awe. Which the heavens and the hosts of heaven together with the blessed Seraphim joyfully do magnify. And do Thou command that it be permitted us to join with them in confessing Thee, while we say with lowly praise:
