First Reading1 Corinthians 4:6b-15

From the First Letter of Paul to the Corinthians

6Now these things, brothers,I have in a figure transferred to myselfand Apollos for your sakes, that in us you might learn not to think beyond the things which are written, that none of you be puffed up against one another.7For who makes you different? And what do you have that you didn’t receive? But if you did receive it,why do you boast as if you had not received it?

8You are already filled. You have already become rich. You have come to reign without us.Yes, and I wish that you did reign, that we also might reign with you!9For I think that God has displayed us,the apostles, last of all, like men sentenced to death. For we are made a spectacle to the world, both to angels and men.10We are fools for Christ’s sake, but you are wise in Christ. We are weak, but you are strong. You have honor, but we have dishonor.11Even to this present hour we hunger, thirst, are naked, are beaten, and have no certain dwelling place.12We toil, working with our own hands. When people curse us, we bless.Being persecuted, we endure.13Being defamed, we entreat. We are made as the filth of the world, the dirt wiped off by all, even until now.

14I don’t write these things to shame you,but to admonish you as my beloved children.15For though you have ten thousand tutors in Christ, you don’t have many fathers. For in Christ Jesus,I became your father through the Good News.

Responsorial PsalmPsalm 145:17-18, 19-20, 21

17The Lord is righteous in all his ways, and gracious in all his works.18The Lord is near to all those who call on him,to all who call on him in truth.

19He will fulfill the desire of those who fear him.He also will hear their cry, and will save them.20The Lord preserves all those who love him,but he will destroy all the wicked.

21My mouth will speak the praise of the Lord.Let all flesh bless his holy name forever and ever.

GospelLuke 6:1-5

From the Gospel according to Luke

1Now on the second Sabbath after the first,he was going through the grain fields. His disciples plucked the heads of grain and ate, rubbing them in their hands.2But some of the Pharisees said to them,“Why do you do thatwhich is not lawful to do on the Sabbath day?”

3Jesus, answering them, said, “Haven’t you read what David did when he was hungry,he and those who were with him,4how he entered into God’s house, and took and ate the show bread, and gave also to those who were with him, which is not lawful to eat except for the priests alone?”5He said to them, “The Son of Man is lord of the Sabbath.”

Eccli 24:14-16

Lesson from the book of Ecclesiasticus

Ecclus 24:14-16

Before all ages, in the beginning, He created me, and through all ages I shall not cease to be. In the holy Tent I ministered before Him, and in Sion I fixed my abode. Thus in the chosen city He has given me rest, in Jerusalem is my domain. I have struck root among the glorious people, in the portion of my God, His heritage, and my abode is in the full assembly of Saints.

Blessed Virgin

It is truly meet and just, right and for our salvation, that we should at all times, and in all places, give thanks unto Thee, O holy Lord, Father almighty, everlasting God: and that we should praise and bless, and proclaim Thee, in the veneratióne of the Blessed Mary, ever-Virgin: Who also conceived Thine only-begotten Son by the overshadowing of the Holy Ghost, and the glory of her virginity still abiding, gave forth to the world the everlasting Light, Jesus Christ our Lord. Through whom the Angels praise Thy Majesty, the Dominations worship it, and the Powers stand in awe. The Heavens and the heavenly hosts together with the blessed Seraphim in triumphant chorus unite to celebrate it. Together with these we entreat Thee that Thou mayest bid our voices also to be admitted while we say with lowly praise:

CommunionCommunio

Blessed is the womb of the Virgin Mary, which bore the Son of the eternal Father.
